While tonight’s episode of Smallville sees the return of illusive-mother Martha Kent with her new boyfriend Perry White in tow, there’s no doubt that the fans are looking to the future – next week, to be specific – and the Smallville season finale.

The war of a lifetime between Kal-El and Zod, is finally upon us again, but this time there’s no need for a Lex Luthor vessel. The General Zod we all know (and love) has yet to materialize, but as the season progressed, the existing Major Zod continuously shows signs of his destined path.

With a tenth season of Smallville already on the books, lets take a look at what lies in store for us in the ninth season finale. The episode, entitled “Salvation”, will not only feature a battle between Kryptonians, but also the return of a few familiar faces.

“Zod (Callum Blue) unleashes his army upon the world, forcing Chloe (Allison Mack) to call in reinforcements from old friends. Zod tells Lois (Erica Durance) he is The Blur and asks her to steal the Book of Rao from Clark (Tom Welling). Torn between Clark and The Blur, Lois asks Clark to come clean with her about everything but he refuses. Chloe (Allison Mack) and Oliver (Justin Hartley) attempt to reconnect Watchtower’s satellite system in order to fight the Kandorians but to Chloe’s horror, Oliver gets caught on site and disappears. Tess attempts to stop Zod but he leaves her clinging to life. Clark and Zod battle for control of Earth.”

Considering this is the final episode of the season and we’ve been told that the Justice Society will return before the end of the ninth season, there’s no doubt about who these “old friends” will be. Now, if we only knew which of these “old friends” they’re talking about. The nerd inside me can’t stop giggling in anticipation.

Take a look at the season finale photo gallery below (sans “old friends”):

While the past season of Smallville has been somewhat hit (“Pandora,” “Absolute Justice”) or miss (“Rabid,” “Checkmate”), I have no doubt that the ninth season finale will lean toward the former, rather than the latter. Hopefully, this will help quell some of the critics who are against Smallville having a tenth season.

But, you can’t please everyone…

Are you excited about the Smallville season finale? Do you think Dr. Fate will return? Is there a chance that Clark will fly? (Yeah, I know, but I had to ask.)

Catch the season finale of Smallville, May 14 @8pm, on The CW.

  1. Can’t wait for this. They really should just call the next season ‘Metropolis’ though, and really focus on Clark becoming Superman…

Darkseid as the big bad, and fights with Lobo and Solomon Grundy would be perfect…

    • Nuff Said. Bring on the Main Man.

    • This isn’t a reply to you, but i can’t just post a comment. I don’t know why it’s not showing, so i gotta do it this way.

Looks more intense than last years. Haha

And Tess is gonna be Two Face :)

  2. According to IMDB, the JLA and JSA members returning are:

    Black Canary
    Martian Manhunter

  3. I am soooo ready for him to fly. It drives me crazy that everyone who gets their powers can fly immediately, Zod, all the Kandorians, Bizzaro and Super girl. Grrr…

    • Indeed. Frankly, at this point it’s nothing short of retarded that Clark can’t fly.

  4. it’s strange people are not dogging the show as much now!if season ten is not set five years later,a least put him in the suit and write little jimmy into the story, maybe make him arecurring godson to perry.

‘Rabid’ and ‘Checkmate’ were awesome episodes!!!

    • While some episodes have been good, overall the show is flondering. It maybe because they don’t have the same budget but season 10 needs to be it, and they need to go out with a bang.

      • Well I agree on that one, they weren’t all perfect…’Disciple’ and ‘Escape’ were disappointing

        • The addition of Pam Grier to the cast was the worst idea ever. She is TERRIBLE on the show.

    • I agree

  6. Yeah this late bloomer syndrome is becoming a real super handicap. With super intelligence you would think he would have made himself a little miniature jump jet by now… LOL

  7. Yes i am excited but im tired of waiting on him to fly. Hope he flies at least at the next season finale.

  8. I can remember seeing the first issue of Action comics in 1938 and I have loved Superman ever since. What the series Smallville has done to his legacy is pure blasphemy. I didn’t think it could desecrate his name any more than it has, but I hear that Martha Kent is coming home with Perry White as her boyfriend. Good thinking. Let’s desecrate Martha Kent while we’re at it. Where are all the tried and true Superman lovers who feel as I do. All I read are the illiterate ramblings of ignorant Smallville fans who don’t know how to spell and wouldn’t know a good story line if it bit them in you know where.

Superman purists unite and cryout against those who have defamed him and given him the ludicrous name “The Blur”.

C’mon now, “The Blur”? Even the Flash wouldn’t accept that insult.

  9. the blur is a stupid name.

  10. Season 10 should be about one thing and one thing ONLY, and that is Clark becoming Superman. Not the Red-Blue Blur, The Blur or anything else. SUPERMAN. That and bring back Micheal Rosenbaum as Lex, for at least the last 2 or 3 episodes. I love Smallville but I think season 10 should be the end of the line, I mean we are getting into Superman territory at this point, which also means that Clark NEEDS to be wearing glasses for the ENTIRE season.
Oh and Cameo from Wonder Woman and Bats would be a nice touch as well.

    • The glasses thingy won’t work now, unless Jor-El somehow wipes everyones memory of what Clark looks like without them. But I agree with everything else you said.

      • Glasses don’t even count into it anymore. The “Blur” can’t even be seen, which is why they are using that unimaginative and degrading name. Apparently they are so clueless they couldn’t think of anything more creative..

  11. I am pretty sure Clark will fly during the finale. It has been hinted in interviews from people part of the show. Next season really needs to go out with a bang especially since it will be the last.

Seeing Wonder Woman would be cool. They have almost everyone else from the original Superfriends cast. They obviously can’t include Batman or the Green Lantern for obvious reasons – they actually have movies that either came out or will be released soon. So Wonder Woman could easily fit, she’ll definitely be better than Black Canary or Zatanna.

I’m wondering who will be next year’s villain! Has to be big since again, its the finale. But they said it will be hinted on in the last episode, not surprising, they did that last season with Zod.

Not to mention him wearing his Superman costume! This must happen by the end of the next episode, at least something very similar to it. I know he will definitely be wearing the classic red and yellow “S” sheild as it was hinted on the preview, they actually showed it as a refection in Clark’s eye while talking to Jor-El, can’t get more obvious than that.

  12. I’m sooooooo confused. Haha. But we finally ended with a “to be continued…”
