During the break between seasons a few bits are developing in regards to the cast of the upcoming 9th season of Smallville.
The latest news I’ve seen is that Brian Austin Green is coming on board the Smallville to play the role of John Corben – or you may know him better as “Metallo.”

|
The surprising part for me is that it’s been reported that he stepped away from being a series regular on One Tree Hill for his two-episode appearance.
If you never caught Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, then you don’t know that Green can play a serious bad-ass character. It shocked me when he showed up in TSCC but he pulls off the regimented, focused soldier part very well in both looks and performance.
Casting Bits
~

Allison Mack Chloe Sullivan in Smallville
I came across an interview that Matt Dentler conducted with Allison Mack and in that interview, a few interesting things came of it.
First, that Tom Welling renewed his contract for 2 more years. That makes a potential for a season 10 a bit easier to navigate for the beleaguered CW network.
The eye opener I caught was the following quote from Mack:
“I will be completed with my contract next year, and I am looking for new and exciting ways to carry out my character’s exit.”
Chloe has been more the mainstay than some other characters that should have been and I have to wonder if her leaving may mean something for the show itself? (Just wondering for conjecture’s sake.)
According to Entertainment Weekly, the principal cast is lined up for next season. The one “possible exception” was Sam Witwer who played Doomsday / Davis Bloom.
The Newest Showrunners Split Up
When Al Gough and Miles Millar left Smallville, the 2nd string team of showrunners stepped up and gave us a pretty decent 8th season. Mostly (barring that rushed finale and a few other spots). As you may recall, Darren Swimmer, Todd Slakin, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson took over showrunner duties when Gough and Millar stepped out eloquently.
But after having stepped up, two of them are moving on it seems. Swimmer and Slakvin are moving on to take over another desperate attempt at a remake called Melrose Place, leaving Souders and Peterson to run the shop.
I have to wonder when Swimmer and Slavkin left? Did they do so before the season finale to work on Melrose? That would explain the rushed feel to the season finale episode, that’s for sure.
Spinoff???

The former Robin as Nightwing
There is talk that despite Welling’s two year extension, that season 9 will probably more than likely be the last for Smallville. Despite that, the CW may be looking for ways to keep one of their more popular and consistent franchises alive.
For the moment, these are just rumors floating around so don’t get your hopes up.
Maybe the two showrunners that are left heard what Screen Rant readers had to say when many of you suggested a spinoff titled “Metropolis.”
That’s right CW. Screen Rant readers already coined a title for your new spinoff that many would like to see you do.
So what are you waiting for? We have some pretty sharp minded readers and they’ve already done some of the heavy lifting for your CW brains!
Anyway, I presume spinoff success may have some hurdles like legal issues with character copyrights and who / what character it is they can spin off from the series and keep the interest in the new series alive.
Keep in mind as you, our readers, make suggestions for a spinoff, if there’s a movie franchise going on out there aimed at the big screens, there will probably be legal restrictions keeping those characters from doing much else. I’m just saying… there are reasons we haven’t outright seen other characters on Smallville, and I’m sure it isn’t because they haven’t thought of them.
Ahem. Notice my subtle suggestion for a spinoff at the top of this section? No, not the Greysons. God no. Let’s just get right into it and start up a Nightwing series. Then they can shove the ever non-existent Chloe in there. (Non-existent meaning I don’t remember a Chloe in the comics.)
Pitch In, Gang
So let’s hear some decent viable ideas for spinoffs from you, our faithful Screen Rant readers. Or I’d like to know from those of you who are crying out for a 10th season, how they might do that and keep it interesting for the rest of us who are wondering just how that might happen. Because if they aren’t careful, the studio won’t see the shark fins in the water until it’s too late.

This comment thread is about opinions. It’s not here for you to sarcastically call people out or calling them names.
.
Yes the season 8 finale was again, quite interesting. I didn’t mind it at all. I’ve watched the show since it started and I’m just a hard core dedicated watcher. Looking forward to season 9 and possibly 10.
I been watching Smallville since season 1. I remembered how anxious I was for a series about Superman before ever becoming Superman in the first place. I wasn’t too happy about the “Lois & Clark” series they had in the past. So this one had me excited. I stopped watching the Smallville season after season 4 I believe. Things were getting too weird and I felt they were prolonging the series just to stretch it out. I mean how many tv series can you name that has over 8 seasons? But, I have finally caught up and watched all of the other seasons. Season 7 was really good. Season 8 could be the worse season of them all. I am almost certain that season 9 will be the last, because after ZOD, who else is left for Superman to defeat? Superman’s biggest foes have always been LEX, Doomsday, and ZOD. So season 9 is the last.
Nightwing? No no no no no! Please don’t waste a slot on that char. I could live with Batman – at least he had the cool gadgets – but not Robin. I may get a slew of hate mail here, but the character just doesn’t have anything worth watching. There are so many interesting characters they could take on! What about picking up the Justice League angle that was hinted at in the show? A before-they-were-famous angle, as Smallville has been. It’s a shoe-in for Chloe as Watchtower, and a chance to guest spot other JL chars every show or two. And we get cool powers {:v)
Ok Pete, Uhm… Ouch. I’m sorry that i don’t fish out all the flaws in stuff and i actually enjoy the show. I didn’t mean to wrong anybody by posting my opinion.
ya suck
But seriously Pete, that was cute. I remember my first beer
I seriously believe that lois and clarck should be together.I mean:”lois and clarck.;As fo chloe,i think that she should be given powers too.The act of Oliver killing Lex,that was too first because one of clarck’s enemy was defeated. So in season 9, it should be a battle between zod and,AND clarck should have the ability to fly! Also in season 9,Jor-elhould be seen{physically and Cara should be brought back to help clarck fight zod and clarck should tell lois his secret. As for lana, clarck should forget her and in season 10 as the last, clarck should be united with the legion. But then,i have one question, wasn’t clarck’s destiny be supposed to defeat lex, doom’s day, braianiac and zod.Now that he has defeated the three, what will happen when clarck defeats zod!and by the way, didn’t clarck defeat zod in season 6…anyway,looking foward to season 9 and 10!
Lol Poofer,
Glad you enjoyed my advice! Just trying to educate you on smallville. Hope that helped.
Stylez and James..
I agree..
Oh,
And here’s the link.. Pete Ross and Lana Lang do get married, and have a baby.

It wasnt the beer talking.
Don’t you guys think Oliver and Clark will have a little conflict on season 9 since, Oliver killed Lex?
Who knows another, another Lex Luthor might be born.
I don’t think the Lex thing will be like the Jimmy thing. Lex won’t be dead. It will be similar to that whole Lana thing at the end of season 6 or that would have been his clone or the Lex from season 4 episode ‘Onyx’
i think the nightwing idea for a spinoff is the dumbest thing i ever heard
i wish clark will assume his being superman, been waiting for this to happen or so many many years i got tired of watching it.
Hi All-
(maybe even 10)
Have been reading this post since the last few weeks of season 8. BTW…I was getting a little tired of the lana and Clark relationship also, but her return in season 8 was perfect. Very bittersweet. Now, please Clark, focus your attention towards the very sexy and sassy Lois! Yea, she is going to be in 18 episodes! I really do hope Clark learns to fly this season, but he doesn’t have to wear tights. He does hang out in Metropolis a lot now, and I would like to see an upgrade from the blue T-shirt and red jean jacket. He looks very put together when dressed up for the Daily Planet. I was so psyched for the season finale, and somewhat let down by the fight scene. You guys are right, it was very rushed. I think Tess is an awesome replacement for Lex, and Davis was a great way to bring in Doomsday. The season kind of stalled out after the holidays, but definitely regained its momentum leading up to the finale. Overall, I thought season 8 was excellent. The writers are doing a fine job. Can’t wait til season 9
**ATTENTION** PETE ROSS
Your posts are a huge waste of everyones time. “even yours” Pathetic really. They are completely worthless and vulgar. If one has to resort to name calling, then they must be completely jealous of the person it’s directed toward.
It’s completely juvenile!
You must have heard the phrase, “If you can’t say anything nice, then don’t say anything at all!”
Love to hear (almost) everyones thoughts about the up-coming season.
What a nice point Aragorn.
It makes me laugh when people feel they need to get involved with others people’s arguments.
I’ll drop this here and now because I can’t be bothered to waste time arguing with pea-minded idiots.
I had to reply to you though because I needed to point something out.
1: If my posts are worthless and a huge waste of time, why does your post essentially re-iterate the EXACT points I’ve made on mine? This would essentially make your post worthless? Understand this basic concept?
2: If you are so concerned about time wasting, why would you bother wasting ‘your time’ writing a whole paragraph on how time wasting my posts are? Get the point?
I’m guessing that you are probably a homosexual and you actually took offence to my mis-spelling of Foopher’s name. So you felt the need to voice your opinion. But let me remind you…
this forum is supposed to be about SMALLVILLE. Not an argument room. So please, keep your feelings to yourself next time. Nobody’s wants to hear them.
You guys need to relax or I’ll have to take action on this thread.
Vic
Hmm I really don’t believe for a second that Lex is dead, i mean hell it’ll probably end up being another truck that was exploded, or there was that episode in season 9 with the sorceress at the end of the episode where oliver was granted a wish…maybe he wished that his murder was taken back? who knows? the fact is that smallville is meant to be superman the early years so surely if clark defeats all his enemies for good in smallville then he wouldn’t have any classic villains left for when he finally does become superman!
If you get what i’m saying.
I hope i don’t upset any die hard smallville fans, for i am one myself, however season 9 was a let down though, that big build up throughout the whole season for the worst season finale of a tv show i have ever seen in my life.
PS PETE ROSS
i hope you like my name, you’re a boy after my own heart.
i think they should def bring a season ten wut they might do idk perhaps like i have bloged about before is get clark flying becomeing who he is supose to be. for one thing and give hime some awesome bad guys cause the metor freak thing has been done to death i mean fight scene’s none of this talking them out of it and crap i mean thats all well and good but lets get some heavy duty action die hard kind of explosions and shit i mean come on put some action into it. and the love triangle idea is awesome thats clasice superman and louis thing going on love it but in the end we all know she picks clark and then her reveals he is superman so take us for a ride with the story that we know the end too you got to make it interesting she how he does 2 dates at the same time and up the special effects cause it sure seems like they are slacking on them. I mean dang wut is going on with the effects rigth. I love the show dont get me wrong im a die hard fan and i want it to continue for as long as they can do it so take some advice make it good keep the people interested and start promoting it better get the actors out there promoting it better get some new fans start some more comercials on dif networks and show the cool shit when you do. show it on cartoon net work get some of the young kids in on it i mean its not that hard to come up with ideas. WOW have an imagination you know that thing you had when you were a kid making your toy car fly and motorbike fly. that cant happen but so wut right you were a kid have imagination just cause these people are dealing with a story thats been done before doesnt mean you need to follow every rule of the story but get clark in the air. Make the story exiting on the edge of your seat waiting for the next episode and dont just drop the ball. you give me the actors ill make it better let me talk to the special effects ill turn it so you can see everything like clark see’s it. make it action packed a lil love and drama but dont drowned it with daytime soap crap thats for 40 year old women at home this is a comic runnoff so run with it for christ sake.
LOL you guys are great! Put a big smile on my face
Wow redbluepatriot I was out of breath just reading your post! Think I get what you mean though.. Sometimes we all want to see a bit more action and less negotiation from Clark.
LOL @ Pete Ross’s lover
Some good points in there..
Just so you guys know though that was actually season 8 not 9
Regarding the death of lex; i just watched REQUIEM last night and i’ve come up with some possibilities.
1. It was a clone of Lex from his season 6 gemini project i the truck.
2. There was no one in the truck (i realize it shows Lex’s face being surrounded by the orange glow of fire, BUT it never shows any fire. He could’ve just been watching the whole scene from that screen in front of him.)
3. That was Lex that died and they’re gonna do something with time (or Zatanna… see 4.) to bring him back.
4. When Zatanna was in oliver’s office she told him about her ability to grant one wish. when she said that he looked down at the obituary for Lex on his desk.
5. That really was Lex and he’s dead and gone and the writers suck (not likely)
Feel free to disagree PETE
thanks Pete Ross! glad you liked the name lol ahh yes i see that i put season 9 instead of 8, how foolish of me! anyway some very valid points from all
You guys on Smallville should get more new villians than meteor freaks & get villians from some of the comics.also have Clark fly in season 9 or learn how to control that power.& that Lois & Clark fall in love & that Clark tells Lois he is superman or the red blue blur.or have Lois find out Clarks secret like Cloe & Lana did & that she will be able to handle the double identity like lois said to Clark in season 9 I have been down the superhero rode before but this time it is different.that showed that if Clark tells Lois his secret she will be able to handle it.also have Clark finally admit that Lois is his true love.also have more action with new villians & that Lois & Clark get married in season 9 or 10 & have a child.Smallville is able & should go to a season 9 & 10 or even more seasons.
“You guys on Smallville should get more new villians than meteor freaks & get villians from some of the comics”
Have you watched the show any after season 4???????
“…Clark tells Lois he is superman or the red blue blur”
S08E15. Did that. It didn’t turn out too well
“Smallville is able & should go to a season 9 & 10 or even more seasons.”
amen
OK, i’ve read this on a couple sites and was wondering if anyone else heard this…
Apparently in season 9 episode 5 IDOL, there is going to be an appearance by… get ready for this… the Wonder Twins.
At first i was like “woooooooooow” but the more i think about it, they could make it pretty cool. (as long as they stay away from “the form of a bucket of water!” :p
I think a Batman beyond Spinoff would be more relatable to young viewers besides i think Smallville has run it’s course.
The very-long drawn out Superman reveal is Super-old. And they need to introduce newer origin stories instead of relying on decades old characters.
Batman is the worst superhero ever. It actually pains me just thinking of Batman. My girlfriend bought the Batman set for me to watch and I ended up throwing it in the bin to save space on the shelf! Everything about that idiot excuse for a superhero makes me sick. Especially his outfit. I wish someone would just kill that idiot once and for all and put an end to it! In all honestly an old granny could probably take down batman… it wouldn’t be that hard.
A Spinoff might appeal to some, but I doubt it would ever reach 9 seasons. Probably 2 maximum before people realise the main character is just bad!
Ps: I think me and Foopher should be banned from this thread. We’re far to opinionated and agressive.. Lol
Pete Ross:
Don’t mess with the Batman, man.
What doesn’t appeal to you, appeals to others… or else the title would have died on the printing press many years ago.
Peace out!
B
I try not to be “opinionated and agressive”. It just happens. lol
