Mid to late last year, conjecture was abound as to whether this 8th season of Smallville would be the last season, as had been originally planned.
Many factors were floating around as to the outcome. Does The CW stick to the original plan? Do ratings have an impact on the plans? What about actor availability? Do we, the viewers want a 9th season? OK, that last one was a duh.

This season has seen some pretty good plot lines. We’ve seen a few new characters, we’re about to meet the Legion of Superheroes from the 31st century and wait ’til we find out who sent them! We’re going to be seeing The Toyman in February and heck, even Tori Spelling is going to reprise her role of gossip columnist Linda Lake for at least one episode.
Back in December, ratings were telling The CW that the show should go on. Heck it is part of their bread and butter combination with Supernatural, but the only other snag was the actor availability. The question: Did any of the actors start making plans to move on with the advent that season 8 was the last possible season? The availability issue was such that Darren Swimmer had been prepared to write a series finale if Tom Welling did not return.
Today the news on the street is that Tom Welling is close to finalizing a deal to return for a 9th season with some final details being ironed out. One of the details was something to the affect of “the Brinks Truck pull into the actor’s driveway”. Not a bad detail and not surprising to know Welling has some serious leverage.
Of course, we all wonder. Now that we aren’t going to see a series finale this year, do we get to see the suit and when?
More than likely not. February will see a 3 episode story arc with Clark dealing with the premise of a dual identity. The other hangup about the suit is that it may never happen due to a potential conflict with the big screen franchise. Which doesn’t make sense to me since this show seems to be carrying the franchise along nicely, but who knows. Things change with time and we can just keep on hoping.
Me, I’m just waiting to see how they are going to resolve the Brainiac possessed Chloe scenario and I can’t wait to see Doomsday duke it out in plain light so we can finally see him!!

The aftermath of Doomsday’s (Sam Witwer) attack on Chloe (Allison Mack) and Jimmy’s (Aaron Ashmore) wedding leaves Clark (Tom Welling) in shock, but before he can search for the kidnapped Chloe, The Persuader (guest star Fraser Aithceson) appears and attacks him. Rokk (guest star Ryan Kennedy), Imra (guest star Alexz Johnson) and Garth (guest star Calum Worthy), also known as The Legion, step in from the future to help vanquish the Persuader and the group realizes Brainiac has taken over Chloe once again. Meanwhile, up at the Fortress, Chloe, as Brainiac, informs Davis he is Doomsday and was created to kill “the other Kryptonian” and destroy the world.

I thought season 8 was enough but now that we had such a horrible Lana storyline I think it’s only fair we get at least two more series to make up for it!
Seriously though, I really hope the end of series 8 teases us with Clark beginning to fly and then series 9 we get like a whole episode of Clark experimenting with flight (i.e LOTS of screen time with jokes of him falling, trying again, mastering it, enjoying it).
If the quality of the writing is there and the actors are willing then I’m up for series 9! On the condition that Lana NEVER comes back or at least if she does it’s to a Clark who is COMPLETELY over her.
As for the actors being typecasted – who really cares? Keanu Reeves / Lawrence Fishbourne have done loads of movies but they’ll always be Neo & Morpheous from the Matrix. Stallone will always be Rocky. Who wouldn’t want to be remember for being Superman?

Either or, Clark will never meet Batman or Wonderwoman especially now that the movie for that is coming out. And when I said Superman doesn’t meet Spiderman I meant that they don’t meet in the original DC storyline, and I’m gonna say that 150% chances are that he’ll never meet him in Smallville

Hey Guys this is jeron i watched smallville 1-2 and then stoped for like 1 month ago and decided i watch em all again so i did..*in love* Flight would be kool but i think without the flight makes it a struggle for him to save everyone witch kinda makes it a little more interesting and without the costume it wouldnt be that great atleast to me but Season 9 i think would be great for the show to focus more on Clark involing into the man we all read about Superman and his relationship with Lois i cant see a Season 10 Yet but as i read before things changes with time so we will see
Well, I’ve been a Smallville fan for a loong while now. However, i tend to agree with James that plots are getting a bit protracted. So much so that when something dramatic suddenly occurs like Doomsday’s ‘wedding-crash’ it looks too surreal to be credible. The writers need to strike a compromise on timing. I like the mature angle to comic characters- keep it up! However, lets not make it too obvious that plot-drags are for commercial purposes.A 10th season is not necessary
will clark ever meet the green lantern like in the Justice League Cartoon not sure if that has anything to do with Superman Comics or not just that would be intresting
All I want to see is the character of Clark FLY; it seems kind of lame that other Kyrptonians and related aliens have the power of flight, but Clark doesn’t. C’mon!! He’s SUPERMAN, isn’t he?!?
ive watched smallville for ever ive got all the seasons all the books even post cards, smallville season 9 and 10 would b awsome. b even better if they decided to carry on 4 quite a few more years yet. that would b so cool. but i must say that season 8 is the best so far
Series 8 was rolling along nicely, until Lana appears and clark starts to unembrace his destiny and become pathetic again. please please dont put lana in the show again.
Huck, I agree with you. Lana being back was a MAJOR, MAJOR let down.
But, I actually really hate the way they left it with them- and as much as it sickens me to bring Lana back – I think one episode in series 9 with her would be good JUST so we can see Clark TOTALLY over her and not just because he CAN’T have but but that he doesn’t WANT her.
I just don’t like the idea of Lois being Superman’s true love just because it didn’t work out with Lana due to a kryptonite suit.
Oh Geez! I forgot to check “notify’ but when is the new Smallville due? Repeats so far but I don’t mind as miss some details.

I think season 8 should be the final for Smallville but in turn start a new series called something along the lines as Superman’s Begainnings (not before he was superman (smallville) but after he learned how to fly and he takes flight and the real hero comes out.
I like Lana bein the first love of ck,but in the end i hope Lana will not be hated by the people(fan).
I hope Clark finally FLIES in season 9 and ENDS UP with Lois, “Bride” episode being the “final” start point. Lana’s return as super girl, later kryptonized, was pathetic and absolutely out of the whole story! Lana was not tradionally Clark’s greatest love; why make her return to revive the love just ended? It would greatly endanger the coming true romance between CK and LL!

BTW, I’m a super fan of Smallville. Watched so long I ignore the original stories. But I admit some of the series gone too far, more other stuff less superman.

. So I would not be able to see the new shows right away. I hope Clark will at least learn to fly right away because that is what we all have been waiting for. It is toooooo long without him being able to fly…So why did Lois go to the future at the end of season 8?

I love smallville! However it has gotten a little crazy. Lex can’t be gone. Jimmy also can’t die and Chloe as much as I like her character isn’t in supermans life. It’ll be sad how they take her out.
Lex should come back with his hair as a “wig” but he NEEDS to come back. And I’m so into the relationship finally building between Clark and Lois. =) Keep Smallville going!!

Are serious? Lana was easily the worst thing about the show all the way through! She should have gone ages ago – series 4 or 5.
Lois is perfectly cast, she’s tomboy, feisty and everything lois should be.
