I’ve read some articles here proposing some possible ways on how the Superman/Clark dual identity can work (through amnesia) however, it only involves Lex. The problem now will be Louis, Jimmy (Olsen) and perhaps Perry White (who appeared several seasons back), and not to forget, the hundreds of Smallville residents who have seen Clark growing-up without his glasses.

Yes, you might say that “who are they anyway? They won’t matter.” Unfortunately, it does, specially in this “re-tellilng” of the Superman story. I mean, let’s get realistic about it…Smallville is a small farming town, where everyone knows just about everyone else. When Clark assumes the Superman persona, don’t you think someone from Smallville (an old classmate or neighbor or perhaps a staff from the Smallville Hospital) will recognize him when his picture in the iconic costume gets printed in the papers or his video is featured in the evening news?

Okay, maybe I’m ranting too much on this subject matter but heck, this is “Screenrant” afterall. And of course, this is just a personal opinion.

Still, I can’t wait to see how Season 8 will turn out.

Rix says:

I cna only see two options really:
1. He is able to change his physical appearance (like Kara in the 1980’s Supergirl movie) or
2. We see the end of the world / a kryptonian invasion and the destruction of Earth unless Clarke has to make a tough decision (not sure what) and use the fotress / Jor-El link to solve / save the planet – the result of which causes a time/travel or alternate present day where lots of things didn’t actually happen therefore people don’t know him as a Clarke with special powers.

Just my two cents (or pence as we say in th uk)

Rix says:

Sorry for all the typo’s above.

Clark + glasses = Superman can NOT work in the established Smallville universe.

I’m VERY curious to see just how they intended on tackling the dual-identity thing this season…

scottgia says:

One word……amnesia….oh, and Jor-el’s
influence will make clarks transformation into superman work in the smallville universe…..actually that’s more than one word, but let’s not get picky….

Rob Winter says:

Flight! 8th season better have it. was disappointed the 7th season didn’t have clark finally taking off. Superman without flight just leaves me a bit discouraged that the smallville writers and producers could avoid such a crucial part of the superman world.

O Bloody Hell says:

I’ve always wondered why they didn’t abandon the whole Smallville theme when he graduated HS. They’ve had a number of continuity issues with people in Metropolis “just dropping by” in Smallville even though it’s established as at least several hours away. They should’ve renamed it to “Metropolis” after S4 and moved slowly into his college years and towards him actually becoming Superman. By sticking with Smallville the mold was just too confining, and led to utterly lame storylines like s5e3 “Hidden”, which is worse than even the K-mutant-monster-of-the-week eps from the first season.

So, in that, they’ve missed a whole host of obvious tales (Lori Lemaris, for one) that were specifically a part of his College years.

My take on the whole dual identity thing is that he’ll have it for most but there are going to be a lot of people who actually know that they are one and the same. That will include some bad guys, perhaps, like Lex, but they will have their hands tied as far as revealing it in a public way.

The season will be ok as long as they don’t introduce Beppo. :o P

To Vic and Austin: Rix, from (UK)had an interesting observation on September 15th, 2008, he said, 1. “He is able to change his physical appearance (like Kara in the 1980’s Supergirl movie) or 2. We see the end of the world a kryptonian invasion and the destruction of Earth unless Clarke has to make a tough decision (not sure what)and use the fortress……” My comments follow: I am 70 years old I have been fascinated with the adventures of Superman since it came out on ‘Marvel Comic’(in funny books) way back in the fifties. Then, I was equally
impress and fascinated when the Steave Reeves Series came out. I have been following the Tom Welling (Clark Kent)series from the beginning. I have collected all the 6 series In DVDS. I believe that to make Clark Kent (Tom Welling) re-enter into Superman in tights and cape, the New movie of Superman should be done with him and not some other Holywood Actor which was use in the last Superman movie after Steve Reeves passing. Lets be realistic about this. Clark Kent (Tom Welling)can begin the series by coming to the Fortress and emerging in tights and cape making the decision of saving planet Earth as Rix mentioned. That would be one tremendous impact for the beginning series #8. What we need a person with open mind and creative ideas who can continue the series after the Big Movie of Superman is shown on the Big Screen. Othoniel Rosado/Napa,CA. October 03, 2008.

Othoniel Rosado says:

Vic, I believe that series #8 should have started with Clark Kent emerging as Superman as I stated above. Making the Big Splash in the Big Screen first, then the weekly series continue there on. October 4th, 2008

dee says:

please stop making smallville in studio. its become nonsense. the light is too brightness, to cover the background. and please dont hit other head in almost every episod. thanks i love smallville but im getting bored with the studio thing keep movin

Othoniel Rosado says:

The episode of Clark Kent(Tom Welling) 10/30/08 was most interesting. Toward the end of the hour Clark realized he cannot continue doing the heroic deed of rescue and not letting Smallville know whom he is before someone finds out who he is. Summarizing his last words. If he is going to fulfill his destiny he emphasized that he most come clean and let the World know whom he is. I would love to see the new Superman Movie in the Big Screen that rumor has it that they are planning to make to use Tom Welling as Superman using Smallville episode as a take off to do the 2 or 3 hour movie and the Smallville series should continue on a weekly basis as it is now after the Big Movie Hit the Screen. I believe this would be an answer to what Dee said, on October the 20th, ‘08. in which she said “I love Smallville but Im getting bore with the studio thing keep movin” We really need a break with some real truth. I like to receive some feed back on my comments as referred on article written on October 4th and October 30th, ‘08. Thank You! Otho _ October 30th, ‘08 11:30 P.M.

@Otho

I’d say the new producers are doing a pretty nice job this year. It kind of reminds me of “Star Trek: Enterprise” where they brought in Manny Coto to run the show in its last season. It got a LOT better but it was too late by then.

I’m starting to wonder if they will go further than this season after all.

Vic

Chantal says:

Frankly in my opinion, whether or not ppl know Clark or not, they should be able to recognise him. Although Superman is my fav superhero, his disguise is the worst. So as for everyone saying ‘they know him, they’ll recognise him’ hell, u don’t need to know him to supposedly be able to recognise him. People in Metropolis/Smallville, are quite dim that way. So I think he’s actually safe!

Othoniel Rosado says:

Vic:

Thank you for your imput. I believe that series #8 is going to be full of surprises for everyone. I got the feeling also, like you have mentioned that “the will go further than this season after all”. It is going to be a wait-and-see-game with the producers. Again, thanks!
Otho

Og Joan says:

I love smallville, but i think the story is becoming too long and boring and with clark not superman yet is even worse. In my opinion lex should have loss and clark should fly at the beginning of season 8 and become a real super hero i think that will make sense.

dee says:

I LOVE SMALLVILLE
WHEN CLARK WILL USE GLASSES??
WHEN CLARK KENT WILL FLY??
WHEN CLARK REALIZE HE FALLING IN LOVE TO LOIS??
CAN WE FIND IT IN SEASON 8??

IM SORRY MY ENGLISH IS NOT REALLY GOOD HOPE U UNDERSTAND WHAT I MEAN

Austin says:

Thanks Og Joan! You have proven my point. If Smallville would’ve had less seasons the series wouldn’t be so boring as it is right now or maybe if he would’ve become Superman as soon as he discovers the fortress, maybe these past seasons could’ve been exciting. I haven’t got the chance to watch season 8 but I’m pretty sure that by far is the worst season ever and the past seasons have been very bad because of all the crap they added. I don’t understand why the writers spend so much time and episodes in Clark struggling to becoming Superman, he’s not the superhero who has a conflict with his destiny, he’s all about saving the day. I think the writers are confusing Clark with Spiderman, he’s the one that has a struggle with his destiny and he has a good reason, he blames himself for the death of his uncle. But Superman is not known to have a conflict with being a superhero. It’s too bad because I was a fan of Smallville during it’s first four or five seasons but these past seasons have been a mess and the worst part is that the writers have no idea how to end it. Thanks againg Og Joan for proving my point.

Othoniel Rosado says:

Vic:
How much influence do you have on Darren Swimmer the Producer? Do you have any knowledge if Darren reads our Blogs and any comments we make as to how Superman series should proceed. I really would welcome his comments. I believe that ‘Og Joan’ has a point in the matter. Otho-11/08/08

scottgia3 says:

To Austin:
You’re right about the past seasons….however, maybe you should watch season 8 because it has been the best yet….and maybe you should read the other blogs because everyone else agrees season 8 has been the best yet……

Austin says:

I’m looking forward to watching season 8 because I started watching the series, I might as well see it to the end. But I’m sure that is not going to have an ending like Avatar: The Last Airbender, now that’s a great series with an amazing ending. But I’m looking forward to watch season 8 to see with what senseless crap the writers come up with.

Sayit says:

There will be no superman outfit until the last frame of the last show. I also believe you he will not fly till that day. At that time you will see him fly out of the fortress for us to see him become superman. If they put him in a outfit before that day then they have a problem. If he stays out of the outfit no dual identity needed. Thats why he has not needed the glasses so far cuz he has no reason to hide he is just clark kent. And so far the only time he used glasses they made a joke out of it by making lois put them on him. If he puts on the outfit he is Superman and thats a different show Ladies and Gentlemen

Othoniel Rosado says:

Sayit:
I agree with what you said on Nov. 16th, ‘08.
Then it will make more sense to see the The Superman movie up in the Screen at the end of the 8th season series. Then Clark Kent AKA: (Tom Welling) to emerge out of the Fortress as Superman to save the planet which i mentioned on October 4th. Then series 9th can continue (Tom Welling) as Superman. Folks, I really would like to see it happened in that manner. If you agree with me, send some feedback. O.Rosado 11/17/08.

Austin says:

Yes, I agree. If he would’ve become Superman as soon as he discovers the fortress the series could’ve go on with his first years as Superman. I don’t know why the writers didn’t do that.It sounds more fun and interesting. The writers are terrible.

Rix says:

Interesting read about the Superman rights – may explain some no-flying stuff.

http://www.ugo.com/tv/smallville/?cur=superboy

Sayit says:

So if i read it right Rix. It looks like the show will never be about superman. just there version of his life as superboy, and they are not allowed to call him superboy money rules the world
They might as well call him The Flash if he caint fly lol. Now that would start something lol

Othoniel Rosado says:

Dear Folks: The episode of Clark Kent shown on Thursday the 20th, was quite inter
esting. Why did Lana showed up unless it needed to be that way so Clark could have some closure to his relationship with her.
He was just getting ready to ‘kiss’ Lois for the first time ever, and that would have started a total new beginning with Lois. If that would had happened by Lana seeing this it would had indicated to her that Clark was moving on with his life. Iam sorry it didn’t took place. Lois starting to have some feeling for Clark. As Lois was reminiscing about Clark, Green Arrow walk in and reaffirmed to Lois her feeling toward Clark. Maybe in the next episode of Clark we might be able to see more closeness toward Lois. What do all of you think. Send me some feedback./Otho…Nov. 23th, 2008

I am good at judging quality tv shows of faves. I like many including Sarah Conners, Fringe, and others but my best is Smallville. It’s not even on the rector scale(?!)I used to and still fond of Seinfeld but getting way old and too repeated.
If we want Smallville to continue(I big time do)so let’s prove it!
How about Facebook or hit all media to show support for Smallville!
Smallville is everything including drama humor mystery and much more.
just because it has computors, cell phones etc, life is more interesting this way as we can relate to it not the 50’s.
It would take only a Tom Welling replacement where Clark Kent is a bit older to work to continue 9th season or a look alike a tough thing to follow!

Richard

Othoniel Rosado says:

Dear Vic Holtreman:
It would be a shame if the Smallville series is descontinue. I love the series, I love Tom Welling he is a fine actor, but we need writers with vision and fortitude and imagination. I believe that Tom Welling can continue on to the next season #9. You are not going to find a better actor that is like, and respected by everyone as Tom Welling. Lets put the question to him of how he feels about the whole thing in general. I have seen a lot shows also like Richard has mentioned, but I yet to see ashow that has captivated my imagination as Smallville has. I enjoy action and adventure and romance; I have fallen in love with Smallville. We must continue with the Superman series(AKA) Tom Welling. Like I have already mentioned, lets bring the question up to Tom Welling. The World would be very surprise as to what he would say, and lets be ‘frank’ about what I have mentioned let him know my feelings, let him continue. Iam a true ‘Fan’ of his. I am still hoping that the Superman Movie In The Big Screen for everyone to see be done with Tom Welling. Vick and Richard, don’t you agree? Otho… 12/08/2008

This Blog is for Darren Swimmer: I just saw the episode of Thursday Jan. 29th, 2009. What are your intention with Lana? She now has the powers to be invisible, and move at supper speed. Clark and her lock their lips and liking the whole situation of pursuing things together which was the indication of the story tonight. All your Fans are in need of an explanation. Vic and Austin are with me on the same page along with many others world wide. Is it going to be Lana or Lois Lane? for she is feeling disappointed that Clark is giving her mix messages. Darren, a Blog from you would be appreciated, it would give us hope to continue watching future episodes. Othoniel Rosado, .!/30/2009 01:20 AM

Scottgia3 says:

I love smallville, but I was actually somewhat disappointed with last nights episode in which Lana gets powers. I realize the show path does not follow the Superman story we are all familiar with, but this is nuts. The only thing that can come of this that might be good, is Lana cannot handle the suit she is wearing and she ends up dying…..Not nice, I know, but get her off the show already. They did say that if her body rejects the nano-technology that she would die……I just want the show to move forward away from the Clark and Lana relationship towards the Clark and Lois thing….Give me your opinion…
