From SyFy Portal come some minorly spoilerish details about Smallville’s 8th and final (thank goodness!) season.
Producer Darren Swimmer says that there will be less looking backward and more moving forward regarding the Superman mythos. Since this is the final season of Smallville they’re going to be concentrating on Clark Kent’s transition to the iconic superhero.
Swimmer says:
| |
“I think we’re moving away from the Kryptonian story, last year we focused a lot on that and aspects of Clark’s past. Clark can’t escape his Kryptonian roots and that’s definitely going to come back and haunt him this season, but this year will be more about moving forward with his destiny as becoming Superman in a way that we’ve never done before.”
Barely appearing in the final season will be Laura Vandervoort, who played Clark’s cousin Kara (aka Supergirl) and of course Michael Rosenbaum and Kristen Kreuk are off the show (although I would guess they’ll probably have an appearance or two in cameo roles). On the other hand fan favorite Justin Hartley who plays Oliver Queen/Green Arrow will become a regular on the series.
I for one am very glad that the Lana character has been written off the show – that Clark/Lana thing was getting seriously old. Plus they turned her into a Machiavellian character that just didn’t really work.
They’ll be concentrating on Clark (Tom Welling), Lois (Erica Durance) and Chloe (Allison Mack). Chloe’s powers will be changing/evolving and Jimmy will have a difficult time adjusting.
No word on whether they’ll be breaking their outdated “no flights” policy, but there will be recognition by Clark that if he is to be able to fulfill his destiny as a hero he will have to resort to a dual identity.
Who knows? Perhaps under the “new management” they’ll manage to improve the show from it’s recent slide in quality and have it end on a high note.
Smallville returns to The CW on September 18th.

There will be no superman outfit until the last frame of the last show. I also believe you he will not fly till that day. At that time you will see him fly out of the fortress for us to see him become superman. If they put him in a outfit before that day then they have a problem. If he stays out of the outfit no dual identity needed. Thats why he has not needed the glasses so far cuz he has no reason to hide he is just clark kent. And so far the only time he used glasses they made a joke out of it by making lois put them on him. If he puts on the outfit he is Superman and thats a different show Ladies and Gentlemen
Sayit:
I agree with what you said on Nov. 16th, ‘08.
Then it will make more sense to see the The Superman movie up in the Screen at the end of the 8th season series. Then Clark Kent AKA: (Tom Welling) to emerge out of the Fortress as Superman to save the planet which i mentioned on October 4th. Then series 9th can continue (Tom Welling) as Superman. Folks, I really would like to see it happened in that manner. If you agree with me, send some feedback. O.Rosado 11/17/08.
Yes, I agree. If he would’ve become Superman as soon as he discovers the fortress the series could’ve go on with his first years as Superman. I don’t know why the writers didn’t do that.It sounds more fun and interesting. The writers are terrible.
Interesting read about the Superman rights – may explain some no-flying stuff.
http://www.ugo.com/tv/smallville/?cur=superboy
So if i read it right Rix. It looks like the show will never be about superman. just there version of his life as superboy, and they are not allowed to call him superboy money rules the world
They might as well call him The Flash if he caint fly lol. Now that would start something lol
Dear Folks: The episode of Clark Kent shown on Thursday the 20th, was quite inter
esting. Why did Lana showed up unless it needed to be that way so Clark could have some closure to his relationship with her.
He was just getting ready to ‘kiss’ Lois for the first time ever, and that would have started a total new beginning with Lois. If that would had happened by Lana seeing this it would had indicated to her that Clark was moving on with his life. Iam sorry it didn’t took place. Lois starting to have some feeling for Clark. As Lois was reminiscing about Clark, Green Arrow walk in and reaffirmed to Lois her feeling toward Clark. Maybe in the next episode of Clark we might be able to see more closeness toward Lois. What do all of you think. Send me some feedback./Otho…Nov. 23th, 2008
I am good at judging quality tv shows of faves. I like many including Sarah Conners, Fringe, and others but my best is Smallville. It’s not even on the rector scale(?!)I used to and still fond of Seinfeld but getting way old and too repeated.
If we want Smallville to continue(I big time do)so let’s prove it!
How about Facebook or hit all media to show support for Smallville!
Smallville is everything including drama humor mystery and much more.
just because it has computors, cell phones etc, life is more interesting this way as we can relate to it not the 50’s.
It would take only a Tom Welling replacement where Clark Kent is a bit older to work to continue 9th season or a look alike a tough thing to follow!
Richard
Dear Vic Holtreman:
It would be a shame if the Smallville series is descontinue. I love the series, I love Tom Welling he is a fine actor, but we need writers with vision and fortitude and imagination. I believe that Tom Welling can continue on to the next season #9. You are not going to find a better actor that is like, and respected by everyone as Tom Welling. Lets put the question to him of how he feels about the whole thing in general. I have seen a lot shows also like Richard has mentioned, but I yet to see ashow that has captivated my imagination as Smallville has. I enjoy action and adventure and romance; I have fallen in love with Smallville. We must continue with the Superman series(AKA) Tom Welling. Like I have already mentioned, lets bring the question up to Tom Welling. The World would be very surprise as to what he would say, and lets be ‘frank’ about what I have mentioned let him know my feelings, let him continue. Iam a true ‘Fan’ of his. I am still hoping that the Superman Movie In The Big Screen for everyone to see be done with Tom Welling. Vick and Richard, don’t you agree? Otho… 12/08/2008
This Blog is for Darren Swimmer: I just saw the episode of Thursday Jan. 29th, 2009. What are your intention with Lana? She now has the powers to be invisible, and move at supper speed. Clark and her lock their lips and liking the whole situation of pursuing things together which was the indication of the story tonight. All your Fans are in need of an explanation. Vic and Austin are with me on the same page along with many others world wide. Is it going to be Lana or Lois Lane? for she is feeling disappointed that Clark is giving her mix messages. Darren, a Blog from you would be appreciated, it would give us hope to continue watching future episodes. Othoniel Rosado, .!/30/2009 01:20 AM
I love smallville, but I was actually somewhat disappointed with last nights episode in which Lana gets powers. I realize the show path does not follow the Superman story we are all familiar with, but this is nuts. The only thing that can come of this that might be good, is Lana cannot handle the suit she is wearing and she ends up dying…..Not nice, I know, but get her off the show already. They did say that if her body rejects the nano-technology that she would die……I just want the show to move forward away from the Clark and Lana relationship towards the Clark and Lois thing….Give me your opinion…
Gotta say giving Lana powers was a pretty “jump the shark” event for me. And that water tank scene at the start of the episode reminded me of the Wolverine trailer.
Vic
Folks, I agree with the statement of (Scottgia 3) about last night episode. To bad that the script that was written for Lana on last night episode should have been written for Lois. Over all Lois Lane has more character and charisma than Lana, now, this is my opinion. Well lets see what is going to happened next Thursday episoe. (Rosado

Dude, I’m so with you on this one! What the hell?! Lana should’ve been written off ages ago. No offense cause she’s really hot but the writers are screwing up this good show. Another reason that proves that the writers at the WB/CW are the worst writers in the world. I thought this show was about how Clark became Superman but I don’t even recognize that show anymore with all that senseless crap the been putting on the show. They’re putting a lot of stuff and a lot of characters that everyone knows Clark deal with after he becomes Superman and he is not even Superman yet. What the hell! Who’s the one with the dumbest idea to give Lana powers!!!! I’m glad I haven’t seen a single episode of this season because is Pure Crap and the ending is not going to be good. Of course the CW is going to announce it as an epic finale but is going to be crap. Is funny how right I am on how stupid and terrible the writers at the WB/CW are. A couple of days ago I was watching an episode of Charmed the season after Shannen Doherty left the show (biggest mistake of the show) and I can’t believe how I watched those crappy seasons until the end. Even though Alyssa Milano is hot, she was horribly annoying after “Prue” died and she gets stupid and more stupid every season until the end. The first three seasons of Charmed were good and interesting but then they added a lot of crap that doesn’t make sense with witchcraft and then they start imitating movies because they ran out of ideas. And the final episode was so stupid. It’s very stupid because they got back in time like for 100th time to save each other and the funny things is that even though they go back in time, they don’t save “Prue” (Shannen Doherty) from dying. What a huge hole that is. So my point is that the stupid and horrible fate that Charmed had, it will happen to Smallville. Believe it! Too bad because it WAS a good show and it should’ve ended a long time ago or these past seasons could’ve been the first years of Clark as Superman. Too bad.
Viv and Austin and Scottgia3: I do appreciate you imput and your comments are righ on target. You have notice, that Darren Swimmer want dare make a comment to our Blogs. He even has the episode mixed up. We all saw Chloe get married a few episodes ago. The comments we heard on this episode of Thursday places her wedding in a couple of more weeks.
It would be very interesting what will the next story would be about. Will keep our fingers cross. Rosado – 1/31/2009
Season 8 has been the BEST yet up until this episode.
Great direction, actors did well but the story was PATHETIC. TOTAL let down. ARGH.
They’re turning Lana into the most annoying character EVER.
The only way out from this is if Lana gets power hungry or something and turns bad and Clark has to kill her himself. That should solve the closure issue on Clana and also explain why he never gets too close to a girl again (ensuring the lois scenes keep us on the tip of our toes). Also, Clark killing her would help him wrestle with power/identity good/bad and finally get him to aplace where he needs to split his abilities from his personality – i.e start to show a weaker, maybe slightly clumsier Clark Kent and a more powerful less Clark like Superman.
Man, what a dissapointing episode.
I’m so annoyed with it that I have to do one more ARGH to get it off my chest.
ARGH.
You’re so right. They’re turning Lana into the most annoying character ever. And if she turns bad and Clark has to kill her, that’t going to destroy the image of Clark because is not right for a superheroe killing a loved one because it turned evil. It’s not right, it’s dark and Superman is not a dark character. They should’ve written Lana off in the most “romantic tragedy” way as possible but now that is almost impossible. Also, Clark should’ve turned into Superman as soon as he discovered the fortress. The writers really ruined the story. I think for damage control, they should do new movies of Superman like it was done for “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight” which by the way are the best adapatations of Batman I have ever seen. There are so many details in those movies that make them so great. I think they should do the same for Superman to repair the damage they done on Smallville.
OMG this show goes all over the place. Everyone has powers lex is gong to comeback as lexasor or something. There is a reason this the show is not called superman lol. They must smoke a ton of weed and go “omg dude let give Lana powers” And is she going to fly before he does. lol
For all of you Fans out there, I posted a Blog on the the other (Rant) of:”Brandon Routh Talk Sense About A ‘Dark Superman’” I feel that all of you should read it, and provide me some feedback. on the article.

Vic and all, I just read on kryptonsite that there is a huge surprise coming either at episode 8-20 or 8-21 that should make all smallville fans very happy….and it is not the return of Lex Luthor. This makes me think that Clark may finally get his flying ability……Episode 20 is called “Capes”, seems fitting if he starts to fly with that title……Have you heard anything? or anyone else hear anything? Thanks
Vic, Austin, Scottgia3, Sayit and the rest of our Fans, It seem like a ‘cat & mouse game’ Scottgia3, I am looking forward to the next episode and I hope is true in what you have mentioned. Vic, do you think
that Darren is aware of what is going on of others producing the Superman movie behind his back, if it going to be?
Rosado – 2/01, 2009 10:20 AM
No one is producing anything behind anyone’s back, bro.
Vic
vic, have you heard anything of the surprise for episodes 8-20 or 8-21?
@Scottgia3
Nope, I haven’t, sorry. Actually I try to keep myself as spoiler-free as possible so I can enjoy the episodes too!
Vic
We wll all find out in couple of days. The moment of truth is coming and then we can post our opinions. Otho 2/2,2009
Okay maybe not kill her but sort of make a decision where she ends up dying (even if that was not what he intended).
Maybe a situation is created where Clark saves someone Lana is trying to hurt and she gets caught in the crossfire? A bit like how the green goblin dies in the first spiderman movie: his own greed to kill spidey ended up in himself dying.
Something creative anyway!!! My point was to get rid of her in a realistic way somehow…making room for the most important woman in the Superman universe: Lois Lane.
Maybe JorEll steps in to “help” her and ends u wiping her out and causing everyone to forget Clark doesn’t walk around without glasses – lol.
Thursday episode was an eye opener for everyone. Even thou the ‘Green Arrow’ stated that Lex Luther is now dead I have strong suspicion that he is still alive.
Toward the end Lana says her good byes to Clark as if they want see each other again.
Vic, Scottgia3, and Austin do you agree with me on this? Otho 2/06/09
Vic, Rix,Austin and Scottgia3, since we
are now aware that Tom Welling can direct as you know we have had 150 episode plus
thus far. I feel that Tom can direct his own Superman Movie and be be the Superman Hero we all have been waiting for with Blue cape and all. Otho 2/15/09 8:40 PM Pacific Time
My close associates, Thursday March 12 should prove to be a most interesting up coming episode. I saw the ‘trailer’ Otho
Tom Welling can direct yes but I don’t think he should direct the next Superman movie. Instead he should concentrate on starring in it – he’ll be the absolute BEST Superman choice this generation has to offer by far. Routh was too much of a Chris Reeves duplicate (not his fault of course it was the writer/direction that made it that way) so having him in the upcoming reboot would spoil it.
Tom Welling would be my 1st, 2nd, 3rd…choice. We’ve seen Clark grow for 8 seasons now so watching a movie where he makes the climatic transition would be fantastic! I’m sure the box office would make heaps of money – which is quite fitting as the original Superman comic was launched during a recession.
As for Smallville – this Lana thing has messed things up so bad, so so bad. I’m a massive Clark & Lois fan so really want to see the chemistry building up between the classic Superman, Lois and Clark triangle (well virtual triangle).
The trailer looks impossible, how is he going to get out of that one?
Anyone know why we have to wait until March for the new episodes?
Oh and just to bring the Lois Clark relationship above the stupid Lana one we may need a final 9th series.
How about, at the end of this series he starts flying and works on an identity and suit. Maybe the last episode he becomes Superman but on a cliffhanger.
Then series 9 we get a whole series of Superman!!! We don’t mind if it’s called Smallville. At the end of series 9 we could have a cliff hanger where Lex is back and finish smallville right there.
Then the movie could be Superman: Return of Luthor. Where Luthor teams up with Braniac or Bizzaro or something we haven’t seen on the big screen. We could have Luthor die at the end of that film (so the actor can have his hair back) and then the sequel could have a different bad guy (Dark Seid maybe to satisfy everyone who wants to see a darker Superman) and then finally the last film could be simply called Doomsday. After which Tom Welling, Erica, etc can all take a long earned rest and retire at an amazingly young age.
There we go all wrapped up!
Rix, You hit the nail on the head, I am tune with your comments. He would be the very best ‘Superman Ever’ He is a person that really understand the role of ‘Superman’ and the fact, that Steave Reeves and Tom Welling understood each other while Steave was alive and the argument that before Steave death, Tom (Clark KIent) had a destiny that he needed to fulfil. That association and the time they spend together was price-
less indeed. I sincerely believe that our comments will find favored accep-
tance with the rest of the ‘Fans’
Otho 2/17/09
I’m glad yet angry/upset when I learned next new episode March. Why are episodes so short lengths?
Still great to watch reruns unlike super over repaeats on our A channel then Space.
If any time show seems screw up, they seem to pull something off to make us want more next week.
Richard
Richard, I am deeply sorry, this 8th Series has been the shortest ever, then we read to whats coming ahead and they use this as a bait to keep us dangling for more. Otho 2/17/09
Richard, Vic, Austin, Scottgia3, Rix, and Sayit I just receive some news, the following info to my site: “Smallville is Casting, go to:www.TalentHunter.com. Guys, just go to GOOGLE and type: Smallville ia Casting – http://www.TalentHunter.com and register. Otho 2/17/09
Last Thursday episode was disappointing, it was a repeat of several weeks ago. I guess we will have to wait until season nine comes on. It is a wait and see with Darren Swimmer. Otho 2/26/09
No dude – March 5th is the next new episode!
I think they just put in an old one to fill the gap between the crappy Lana story line and the new hopefully Lois one.
I don’t know but I heard that this is the Final season of Smallville and it should because this series is becoming worse and worse. A ninth season would be a huge waste of time and money…YOU HEAR THAT ALL the SMALLVILLE CREW (except the actors)YOU ALL SUCK!!!!! YOU ALL SHOULD NEVER GET HIRED TO DEVELOP A SERIES EVER AGAIN!!!!! YOU RUINED A GOOD ONE!
austin,
It was just announced that smallville will continue to season 9….And please refrain from ever posting here again…….Smallville is a great show, and yes, maybe the last couple seasons have not been the best, but this season has been great and it still has 8 episodes remaining in season 8….@$#%$%#%!!!!!
Hi again,
The reruns are normal but continues. Why it’s decided begin from specific rerun I assume is weekly timing. But time flies and I’m looking forward to continued 8th season in March. I almost thought too 8th was finished…
Richard
Hahahahahaha you think this season is great when they give Lana powers and Lex Luthor is out of the picture and Clark doesn’t know how to fly yet? LOL!!! You’re funny!
With the exception of Lana coming back the season has been pretty good. And Clark is going to fly this season…..there have been too many hints made by the writers and producers to not let him fly this season…..One thing that is great about smallville is that it is it’s own story….it doesn’t follow the superman mythology perfectly and that makes it interesting….I do agree Lana has been overplayed and is slowing down Clark’s transition to Superman…I’ve made that comment a thousand times..
Well, that’s what pisses me off of these past seasons. They have created they’re own story of superman but they have made such a mess that they don’t have a clue how to end it. It would’ve been much nicer and much more organized if Clark would’ve become Superman as soon as he discovered the fortress and these past seasons would’ve been his first years as Superman but the series is a whole mess right now…reminds me so much of the disaster made on Charmed.
Austin, I agree with you Dude, Thursday episode was such a mess to follow, it was confusing to say the least. Can you imagine, Zode wife inside of Lois body creating a confused story for any person to follow. Lois coming back to the farm to live with with Clark. It also reveal that Chloe still control by Breniac. This season has been one big mess ever. Let’s hope, that season 9th will star with better introduction. I long to see Clark fly like everyone hoping to see. Otho 2/28/09
Thank you. I don’t hate the show because it used to be one of my favorites and I really like the action but I’m pissed of the mess they have made, it’s terrible. I hope that the series ends with this season because season nine is going to be worse than this one, I guarantee it. A great series is not great because it has more than 10 season, is great because of the story. For example, Avatar: The Last Airbender lasted three seasons but it has been one of the best series I have ever seen in my whole life because the story was amazing and everything was very organized and detailed and there was a deep connection with all of the characters. Maybe if the writers would’ve put their focus on the story than extending their contracts, the series would’ve end with a bang. From where this series is going I don’t think is going to end well. Thank you for agreeing with me because I know that I’m not the only one who feels this way about Smallville.
Come on guys – even the first few series had things that were unbelievable and we as the audience had to take with a pinch of salt (well maybe a super portioned pinch!)
Yes, Smallville is messy and yes Lana coming back was as stupid as Terminator 3 but that’s TV shows for you right? and I really think there is hope for the next few episodes. Season 9 HAS to be the Superman transition – it just has to be.
I HATE the Lana storyline but I think she needs to come back one last time (or be mentioned) to be stripped of her powers. Us fans can’t live knowing someone out there is stronger than Superman – kind of takes the Super out of all of it.
Sorry – Terminator 3 was not a TV show but it sure felt like a bloomin sitcom!
Anyway…
I wish every1 would stop man if u guys don’t care 4 what’s going on then don’t watch. But myself I’m just glad that we keep seeing every1 and hope that we get a season of Tom as SUPERMAN if u r tru fans just b glad that superman is on tv
Pleeease! The series was great like in its first five seasons but now is just embarassing. This proves that the writers at The CW are the worst writers ever! And besides if you don’t like the comments on this website, don’t visit this website at all. Just keep watching those pathetic episodes of Smallville and keep lying to yourself if that makes you happy.
