I am so glad they have written off the Lana character. Saying the Lana/Clark thing was getting old is an understatement..I was actually hopeing that she had been written off at the end of Season Six so Clark could move on and start growing more into the Suparman role…but Guess they wanted to wait until season 8..with that, I think that season 8 will be a little rushed trying to complete the series based on the info you just presented. And how are they going to have a perimedic as Doomsday???? Does anyone else think that is a bad idea? I mean Clark is not even Superman yet….

We touched on the Doomsday issue in another post here on the site. And no, I don’t think it’s a good idea.

Vic

Brooster says:

Sorry. must have missed that. I just hope that by the end of the season he is flying and actually gets the honor of wearing the tights and cape…..

I’m actually wondering how the heck they’re going to pull off the dual identity thing within the universe they’ve created on “Smallville.”

I think they’ve REALLY written themselves into a corner regarding that and I’m betting their solution will be less than satisfactory.

Vic

Brooster says:

now that you mention it..you’re right…he has been all over metropolis as clark kent..no glasses and no disguises…the police have seen him..everyone at the planet…I don’t think they can get away with the glasses thing on this one…but I bet they try…

EXACTLY my point. I don’t see any way they’ll be able to incorporate the classic dual persona into the show. Hell, in the world they’ve created the only way I could see it working is if he wore a mask as Superman!

Andy says:

Vic, if I remember correctly, in the first Superman movie with Christopher Reeve while Clark was at the fortress learning the extent of his powers, alot of years passed by and he aged a bit…I wonder if they’ll end the show similarly, with Clark emerging from the fortress with all his powers intact and the world having moved past the Clark Kent of Smallville.

John says:

I posted that question on another topic (Smallville plot points, I think) here regarding that dilemna of Clark maintaining a dual identity, since everyone (well, the other main characters at least), have seen him without the “trademark” spectacles of the classic Clark Kent. I mean, how can Clark (as Superman) face Lex Luthor without Lex recognizing him? I could even imagine a scene where the two of them are face-to-face on top of the Daily Planet bulding, with Clark wearing the iconic costume, and Lex holding Louis hostage. Lex might say: “You know Clark, I have to admit, it’s nice to see you again after a long while, and I really envy that buff-look of yours but what the heck are you thinking with that blue spandex?” And Louis would say: “Smallville, you looked a lot better in your farm clothes.” Well, just a joke folks!

@Andy
Quite an interesting suggestion, but…I don’t know. Lex and Clark have known each other for quite a while and they were pretty tight once. I don’t think even a long gap (that spans years) will make Clark unrecognizable to Lex. The series writers have better be really darn creative to pull this one off, and they’d better not be thinking of giving Clark a “hooded” costume with sunglasses to hide his identity like Oliver Queen.

Elaine says:

were only half way though season seven here in the uk, we have to wait until this time next year to see how all these issues are solved. However the duel identity goes, the superman side will have to look super cool, in the movies Clark wore the glasses and always seemed alittle scatty to suport the whole “He couldn’t be superman” persona. On Smallville this can’t happen. so i think the only way around it is for the writters to have a story line where Clark dose have a costum similar to the green arrow,(in red and blue) but it’s said in the episode.. “This look will work for now, over time it may change” Thats my take on it however naive. I’m looking forward to reading how the show dose pan out in season 8, I have to admit I am starting to tire of season 7 and the story lines. But after reading Vic’s season 8 info, I’m looking forward to next year.

Brooster says:

Somone refresh my memory, but in the comics ( any veriation of Superman )did Superman go through costume changes until he finally decided on the one we all know? If so they would try to use one of those…if not..well…they are SOL i think on what ever they come up with….

John "Kahless" Taylor says:

CW has already gone against canon with Smallville, so they will have to come up with something different from the comic. The iconic red, yellow, and blue costume was used even when he was Superboy, so there was no evolution of costumes. I think some type of mask with the iconic costume may be the way to go.

ozzie says:

Hey guys
The writers on smallville are probably gonna make lex forget about clark, coz they’ve shown in previous episodes that kryptonian tech can make ppl forget such as eg zor el using that blue s gizmo to make kara fget about him and laras fing lol
as for lois and jimmy, maybe they find out about clarks identity as ’superman’ in this universe.
My theory ends when I think dat evry1 else has seen clark with no glasses haha

scottgia says:

With regards to everyone recognizing clark when he is superman…I think
that Jor-el will play a role in taking everyone’s memory of Clark that would make them recognize him as superman…..i think it is the only logical way it would work. Then, of course, when he comes out of the Fortress years later, no one would even think that Superman was the mild mannered Clark Kent……..gimme your opinions…

That would be the biggest cop-out ever. Well maybe not the biggest… it’s hard to top the entire season of Dallas that writers ended up saying was a dream.

Vic

scottgia says:

Then I don’t know how it will work. My thoughts on Smallville is that they obivously took liberties as writers to change Clark’s time in Smallville. We all know, according the the comics, he did not know Lex, or Lois, among others while in Smallville….so maybe it is an alternate reality…..but in the end the Superman story should remain the constant….He becomes Superman and no one suspects Clark is the man in tights, but the only way this can happen is if somehow everyones memory of Clark is somehow changed…..Give me your possible ending Vic…

@scottgia

I’ve mentioned before that I have no idea how they’re going to write their way out of this considering the universe they’ve established.

They probably will need to do something like what you suggested, but I think it would be pretty lame.

Vic

scottgia says:

Yeah, i guess it would be lame….but to see him as superman would be cool….I think they should either make a made for TV movie following the finale about him actually making the full transformation into superman or make a Smallville Movie for the big screen……..

Krylos says:

I thought they already showed him as Clark kent with the glasses in Season 7 in one of the final episodes “possible timeline” sequences and Lois didn’t know his secret.

John "Kahless" Taylor says:

However they do it, they should end the series with him in the iconic costume and flying either from the fortress or to Metropolis.

scottgia says:

I agree……I had also thought a good idea might be either ending the series, or the episode prior to the finale, with him going in to train in the fortress and then either making the finale a two hour special and see him come out and be superman, or make a made for TV movie after the series finale to allow the fans to see him as Supe.

Austin says:

I think that if Smallville had less seasons maybe they would’ve develop the story a lot better and be more exciting and it would’ve made more sense to the stories of superman. I don’t think this final season is going to be good because Smallville was supposed to tell the story on how Clark becomes Superman and they have got that story out of proportion and I don’t they don’t have a clue how to end it because of all the crap they have added. Why did they put too much drama between Clark and Lana? Why did Lex discover Clark’s identity? Clark is not Superman yet and why the hell did they do that? Now He left the show and the do damage control by adding villains that Clark supposed to meet after he becomes Superman? All I know is that this season is going to be pure crap. Is going to end exactly how Charmed ended, very, very bad because Charmed was a good series until Shannen Doherty left the series and then they keep adding senseless crap and end up very dissapointing. This is too bad for Smallville because it was a good series but these last season have been very very bad and totally senseless and pointless!

This is too bad for Smallville because it was a good series but these last season have been very very bad and totally senseless and pointless! The story has lost it’s magic. Maybe if they would’ve focused on the story than focusing on extending their contracts things would’ve been different.

scottgia says:

I’ve been thinking about how smallville will work because all of your comments have gotten my brain going. I’ve come up with another scenario that might work. We all know the season finale last year ended with Clark and Lex in the fortress and then it begins to collapse. Clark and Lex will both survive, but I believe Lex will have some memory loss from the events that transpired in Smallville. Maybe he’ll have complete memory loss that will make him leave smallville and eventually he may get some memories back, but the memories don’t matter, really…..he is still destined to be the evil Lex that we know from the comics. The memories may be trapped somewhere in his brain that creates almost a dejavu feeling…so that he ends up becoming obsessed with Superman and trying to kill. This will atleast allow Clark to become superman without Lex remembering Clark……give me your feedback…

Austin says:

You have made a good point on how Lex will turn out to be but is not enough to save Smallville to end as a great series because I’m sure that the writers have no idea how to end the series because of all the things they added that don’t really matter. For instance, we all know that Clark and Lana will not end up together so they should’ve written her off when she left to Paris or when she faked her death or her leaving Clark because she got frustrated because he wouldn’t tell her his secret. Clark should’ve become Superman when he discovered the fortress, at least that’s what I thought when I saw the episode. If those things happened maybe these past seasons wouldn’t be so terrible. They put the story in a place that they don’t even recognize. For example, Avatar: The Last Airbender lasted 3 seasons but it is one of the best shows I have ever seen in my life and why it is so great? Because the creators focused on their story, the avatar has to master all the elements so he can face the firelord and on the third season that was inevitable. If they had extended their series into more season the fans would’ve lost interest and maybe the series wouldn’t end the way that it did because that was the most amazing series finale that I have ever seen…ever. I like Smallville but I don’t think is going to end well and I’m sure is going to end like Charmed…very dissapointing.

scottgia says:

Maybe they should just change their original statement of no tights no flights and just let him learn to fly in the beginning of the 8th season so atleast we can see more of his transformation into superman. And I know smallville was supposed to be the journey to being superman, but they probably should just let him be superman the whole season and maybe flashforward to 12 years after he was in the fortress maybe midseason and this may salvage their last season and make a series finals where he saves the world or something big like that…….

LastSonofKrypton says:

I’m a long term fan of superman and when i first heard of the smallville show years ago i was both apprehensive and intrigued as i wondered how they would do it, i was very impressed to begin with but thought it daft that they had lex luthor in from the beginning if at all but i also liked the idea that he was to begin with a good guy. Over the seasons as i am sure you are all aware the writers seem to have geared towards him becoming the truly evil genius that he is. The thing to remember in the superman world is that in many different versions Lex has been from different backgrounds and I think the writers used this well. In regards to Lana, she was first created to be a replacement for lois in the golden age comics which focused on Superman in smallville and was portrayed similar to the lana we know from the show, i however as i hope some others agree, got sick of her character and the fact that her and clark could never be settled, in some of the comics an in the mid 90’s cartoon she is an independent happy girl who hasn’t gone through all the crap smallvilles lana has. (i’ve always prefered cloe, but thats my personal opinion lol) in regards to the costume/dual identity issue, i agree that the writers will struggle, if they put him in a hood i will not be happy as he has NEVER worn a hood. His mask is his glasses, thats the great thing about superman, he wears the disguise as clark not calel. as someone mentioned earlier he spent 12 years in the fortress learning everything from jorel but the thing to remember in the comics and movies is that Clark is very unknown, Lex luthor barely knows he exists and that is one of the reasons he gets away with it. In the comics as well there has always been a thing over him just wearing glasses and looking different, its almost a joke, i for one look no different with or without glasses, the only problem i truly see is the ending of the 7th season with lex in the fortress and this can only be beaten with memory loss. The other two points i am not impressed with are that the Justice league isn’t set up till after he becomes superman and it is set up by Superman, the flash, the green lantern, wonder woman, J’onn the martian bounty hunter, Batman and hawkgirl. NOT the green arrow, he is brought in later! and finally, lois should never have been brought in AT ALL! i like the relationship they have but she should have left her out of it! Sorry for the rant but i needed to get that off my chest!

Well lets see are u series because with out lex how would there a superman simalr with out no lex and this better not be the end of smallville this show is so popiler I am the biggest smallville fan I have all the seasons and I enjoy buying them and watching the new episodes like I can’t wait for the seaon permeiere of smallville season 8 I am dyeing to see what happens write me back

Austin says:

Well first of all I suggest that you do a spell check before sending comments because I barely understand what you’re writing. Don’t get me wrong but I’m a fan of Smallville too, it’s just that I’m a 100% sure that the series is going to end very dissapointing, just like Charmed, Angel, Buffy, Roswell and The Sopranos ended. The writers added so much crap that don’t really matter that they put the series in a place that they don’t even recognize. Maybe if they would’ve focused on how Clark discovers his powers and become Superman maybe the storyline wouldn’t be so bad. If their contracts were about 8 seasons, then they could’ve turn him into Superman on the fourth or fifth season and the rest of the seasons would’ve been the first years of Clark as Superman and maybe the things they added would’ve made more sense and end the series great. But the writers made a mess in the last two seasons. Clark should’ve become Superman when he discovered the fortress. Why did the writers put a lot of Kripton crap? Clark’s kripton past doesn’t matter, the whole planet is dead. Why did they put so much drama between Lana and Clark? That was so annoying and Lana should’ve been written off a long time ago. And now I’m hearing rumors that in this new season Clark get out of the destroyed fortress 12 years later with no memory. What kind of B.B. is that? That’s the writers brilliant idea of making sense with the dual identity thing? And to cover Lex’s leaving the show, he mysteriously dissappears and with no memory of Clark. I have a feeling that this season is going to be very, very bad. If you haven’t seen the latest news of Smallville it has been confirmed that this new “amazing” season of smallville is going to be the last. And I’m already giving my reviews on how is going to end: Bad, terrible, horrible and very dissapointing. I have no doubt to think that the writers at the CW are the worst writers in the world and if they keep working this way, The CW will be history. I give it a year or two. They already eliminated the weekends of their schedule, their next step is to eliminate Fridays and if Gossip Girl and 90210 don’t do well, is for sure that The CW will end.

@Austin

Ya know… considering your spelling errors and lack of the use of paragraphs I don’t think you’re in a position to correct other people’s comments.
