The return of Clark Kent in Smallville season 11 will soon be upon us. Fortunately, you won’t have to wait until April 13th to find out what’s in store for everyone’s favorite Kansas boy, as series writer Brian Q. Miller has revealed some additional information about Smallville’s transition into comics.

Speaking with IGN at WonderCon this past weekend, Miller discussed the 6-month gap between the Smallville series finale and Smallville season 11; Clark’s space adventures; Chloe and Oliver trying to live in Star City; Lex being, well, Lex; DC guest stars, and more. Additionally, Miller revealed that the 12-issue Smallville season 11 will be equal in length (storywise) to a TV movie, or two to three television episodes.

Here are some excerpts from Miller’s interview:

The Plot:

We’re six months after Clark became Superman for the first time and pushed Apokolips out of orbit, because we had a proto-Darkseid causing some chaos and Apokolips was going to crash into Earth and people were not happy! Superman saved Air Force One with Lois on it and then he pushed the planet out of orbit. So it’s kind of Superman: Year One with a Smallville cast of characters.

Clark’s Storyline:

For Clark, it’s “We’ve saved the world, I’m an adult now, I have my ‘job’ as Superman, so what does that mean for my life now?” Does he ever get to sleep? Does he ever get to see Lois? Lois is busy; she’s a reporter on the rise. So it’s a lot of everyone figuring out in this post-TV series world what their place is.

Clark’s in space in the first ten pages of the first episode!

Once we get out of the first episode, it’s mostly tights and flights – which people have wanted for ten years anyway. So it’s giving Clark his due as Superman, but that’s not to say that we lose sight of Clark Kent.

Chloe and Oliver’s Storyline:

Chloe and Oliver, who are married, want to move to Star City and get on with their lives. Because of all the chaos in season 10, they didn’t have a chance to be married. It’s a lot of them figuring out what to do next. As it happens, things get in the way. For Chloe and Oliver, something happens in the first twelve weeks that very much gives them pause and they have to stay to figure it all out before they can leave.

Lex’s Storyline:

I would say that the situation you have is a Lex Luthor who has lost his memory after he killed his half-sister Tess. Whether or not he remembers that moment could be up for debate. He definitely came back into the world with Apokolips in the sky and a dead Tess on the floor in his office. Our cast knows that the last person to see Tess alive was Lex, so whether or not he remembers it, I think that is kind of a dark stain on Lex’s “new man” status. They all know that even though he may say it was just a suicide, they don’t really believe that after everything Tess went through she would do that. Whether or not there are consequences to it, even if she’s not there I think Tess is still very present.

DC Guest Stars:

There’s certainly a chance for lots of DC guest stars to show up, and lots of DC guest stars will show up. But the focus is primarily on Clark as Superman. So if they do come in, just like they did on the show, it would somehow have to inform what Clark is going through.

…there’s a DC guest star [in the second episode] that brings into the story some of the elements that lend themselves to bigger action, a little more outside-of-the-box stuff that you wouldn’t see on the show tonally. It’s a lot of fun, but it’s definitely a challenge.

A New Character (Cyborg Superman?):

In the first arc, we meet a former astronaut named Hank Henshaw. So Hank will be in the mix. He shows up in issue #2 print-wise.

And if that’s not enough information to help satisfy your Smallville appetite, here are two covers from the upcoming series: (click for larger versions)

  1. This is awesome news, I just wish that they’d went ahead and brought the series back

  2. We should had at least one full show with him in costume, I’m still ticked about that

  3. I watchec all the episodes of the tv show. I forced myself to watch the last 3 seasons, even my brother who is a die hard fan stopped watching it years ago.

The thing is, the tv show lost site of itself, and became all blurry lense luvvy duvvy bs, and had no edge at all whatsoever. Unlike it’s inception, were the episodes were far more edgier with exciting storylines.

Now they bring out a comic…. seriously WTF!!!!

    Just to add,

I read comics, and that artwork is frickin aweful, but then again so is Smallville lol.

      • couldn’t disagree more, the first half of the tv show seasons 1-5 were all the lovey teen romance stuff the last 6-10 are infinitely better in every way

    • why watch the show if it was awful? And ur brother cant be a die hard fan if he quit watching it!

  4. eeeeeh the first cover totally looks goofy and stupid he does not look at all heroic superman to me he looks like someone trying to make fun of superman or something it just looks plain weird issue two cover however looks fine the fact the series is continuing in comic book form is pretty cool those of us loyal fans who watched the series till the end can still enjoy it which is great

    • I was thinking the same exact thing….

  5. Well, I’ll start reading it. I didn’t know about the Buffy series until over a year later. Too far behind to catch up. But I have to say, that artwork for Cover #1 is horrible.

  6. I was a fan of this show for the first 7 seasons and then it started to lose me, however i stayed with it until the end. I can honestly say i watched every episode in the series and over all i did enjoy it. Even though i have a list of problems as im sure everyone who watched the show does and the series finally was an infinite dissapointment, it was nice to have this show in the absence of a Superman movie franchise. Its nice to know that they are continuing the story line in some form even if it is not on television, though the artwork from the first cover is absolutely awful and childish looking i hope it does not reflect the quality of what this comic book has to offer.

  7. I hated the fact they gave the credit to Chloe for Batman. A young Bruce Wayne would b***h slap Chloe for getting involved with his business. Hell, even an old Bruce Wayne wouldn’t have anything to do with the likes of her. The b***h.

  8. no

  9. Man cant wait hope they keep making these issues forever :) smallville forever!!!

  10. Smallville will forever remain a landmark in television, and it’s very unlikley that we will see another show of it’s kind that will have the same success and longevity.

Yes, it had it’s ups and downs but what great show doesn’t? I will concede that the final season tragically didn’t deliver the way it should’ve done. (The Sorpranos, ER, NYPD Blue etc all did this as well) Despite this, it still remains possibly the best television show produced in the last 10-15 years.

    Smallville forever indeed!!!

  11. From what i saw, my only wish was that the series had that kind of story (Cyborg Superman, Lex back, and more of DCs chars there) in the original show, not the boring episodes rounding Lois chasing Clark misteries. Writers should take this idea and make a new last season!

  12. That issue #1 cover is atrocious.

  13. Will we be able to download the season on iTunes? If not where will I be able to down loaded it from?

  14. ugh!!! why doesnt he have the red shorts on? he did in the series finale, why is everything about superman at least in comic book form trying to remove those, it looks stupid without them, anyways now that i’m done ranting loved the series all the way through, and hope this is just as good :)

  15. Is smallville seson 11 going to be in a tv show…?

  16. can anyone explain to me how we get classic suit (as best as can be seen) in Smallville but then we are forced to see him in s***** new 52 suit now???

  17. Comic books are ok, I have not read one in a long time though. But seriously, this is really a bunch of BS. I thought the whole reason the show got cut was over leagal issues. If they can print it why not put it back on the TV? I guess this is better than nothing. SMALLVILLE, That 70s Show & 2.5men have been my favorite shows for years, the first two has been canceled, the third was murdered when Chuck fired Charlie, nowadays when my TV is on most of the time I have no clue as to what is on it, I stare right through it because it’s boring as h–l. 2.5 is now pretty much 1.5 TNT runs smallville but has it on at 4am when most people try to sleep, they seem to only have the last three seasons, but yet at noon there is a ‘dead’ spot with nothing on to watch unless you like old reruns of Rosanne. Bunch of crap.

  18. when is the date for the return of the new series. please bring it back were are missing it so bad

  19. bring back smallville to the CW TV and let us know the date so that we can keep in touch

    • We can hope that CW or some other channel will start it back, but most likely and sadly thats probably all we’ll have is hope. The best I remember CW Is owned 50/50 by CBS and Warner Brothers, When I read this info Ted Turner was involved still with WB. The money IS no dought there, I mean they could afford to do it, especially since Smallville always has been a powerhouse for ratings. The TV show would be better than a comic book. who knows what will happen in the future. Everybody could write into the CW network, telling them they want Smallville THE SHOW. That might help.

  20. When exactly is it coming o , and what channel? It’s not showing up
    I search for it .
