Smallville Season 10: Allison Mack Will Only Guest Star

If the recent announcement of Smallville ending after next season wasn’t enough to bring a tear to the eye of fans, this surely will. Allison Mack, while speaking with Entertainment Weekly, revealed that while she has been a part of the show from the beginning, she will not be returning to the series for its tenth and final season.

This news will not only be a shock to fans, but also to Smallville producers. Two weeks ago, executive producer Brian Peterson said he was “very optimistic” that Mack would return as Chloe Sullivan – Smallville’s last original female cast-member.

You can read Mack’s statement below:

“It’s amazing to think that Chloe Sullivan and I have been one in the same for over a third of my life. I’m truly humbled by the love and loyalty of all the fans whose enthusiasm has carried me — along with a cast and crew which has become my second family — over the past 9 and a half years. Out of respect for the amazingly loyal fans and the place I will always have in my own heart for Chloe, I’m coming back for several episodes next season to tie up Chloe’s Smallville legacy properly.”

“It’s been a life-changing ride and I look forward to what lies ahead with the strength of a ‘superhero’ as my foundation.”

Wow! Just wow! This is a huge blow to Smallville as it enters its final season. I know that Chloe wasn’t a favorite of all fans, but I, along with many, thoroughly enjoyed her on the series as she, at times, became a driving force of the show and was one of the main reasons why I tuned it.

That being said, I’m sure some will argue that with Chloe missing from the Smallville universe, the series will be able to focus more on Clark’s transition into Superman and perhaps achieve that goal faster without the need to include Chloe’s “Watchtower’s satellites are down” -type storylines.

In my opinion, those people would be wrong…

What do you think of Allison Mack not returning to Smallville? Were you a fan of Chloe? How should they tie-up Chloe’s legacy?

The tenth and final season of Smallville returns this fall on The CW.

  1. I am actually crying right now. I really hope that the directors or producers or whoever… talks her into being a permanent cast member and not just on a couple of episodes!

  2. she was my favourite character!
    :(

  3. As a semi-professional writer I respect the story convention of eliminating a key character to build suspense, drama, and the overall goal. As a “Superman-fan” I think the lost of Chloe from the series in the 10th and final season is a “appeasing-the-fans” folly. Even if she only popped up in 4 or 5 episodes that would be fine as long as her name remained on opening credits. But even that isn’t “financially” practical (she would have to be paid a Star’s salary).
It’s sad to see Allison gone in the 10th year. Now Tom is the only original starring member from Season 1. Also, a word of criticism: has anyone not notice that since Allison’s departure in Episode 1–that Epi. 2-8 have had an overwhelming abundance in “cliched” dialogue and story elements?

  4. :( well this just sucks. Why wouldn’t she go on anymore? Of course i’ll still watch the show, but it just isn’t the same without chole! I can’t believe smallville is going to end without her! Also i think clark should be feeling the loss of his best friend…

    • I agree, the show just wouldn’t be the same without Chloe. After all, she’s the best friend that Clark has had and could ever have. However, if she absolutely has to leave from the show, then I honestly hope they give her a happy ending. She deserves at least that much.

  5. Brainiac should Be the Cause of Chole’s insanity and her Death due to the fact that he choose Chole to be overloaded his knowlege but however she suvived only for her to become obessed with Clark like Lex was however she used her newfound telephy to stay over clark’s rader, however she dies due to the fact her Telephy and healing factor disappered and as result of not having a healing factor the knowlege of Brainiac had caused her to fall victim to it and she became phsically weak since her Brain was overloaded and she dies however Brainiac receives back his knowleadge and leaves Smallville Yet reappears in The city Metropolis however noone knows that he is there not even Superman or Lex.

  6. It is really sad to know Allison isn’t going to be a full-time actress. I cries when i thought she died in E2 S10. Smallville isn’t the same without her! I wish she would come back as a full – time actress. I miss her much. I am a really big fan of Chloe!

  7. nooooooo! jst wen i strted liking d idea of olly nd chloe together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ill realli miss her! wait atleast let her show up one las tym in d last episode or so d will officially give us her true fanz mre dan enough closure

    • Well, at least she and Ollie got married! I had a feeling that when she said “Star City,” it was the original comic-book hometown of Green Arrow. Then he confirmed it at the end. I imagine there aren’t all that many episodes left now until the end, they’ll have to have them both back for the wedding, and meantime they have to tie up the loose ends of this “Super Lex Luthor clone” storyline…. or do they? After all, the adult Superman always has had a Luthor to contend with…

Anyway, the biggest dangling storyline is that somewhere out there is still a super-powered Lana Lang who is like Kryptonite to Clark. You’d think she could at least text or e-mail sometime, huh?

  8. The reason i didn’t like her going is because it was so sudden without any warning and being such a huge character i think her death should have been the reason to shape clark kent in to the official superman form, Getting rid of chloe in that way i thought was insulting to such a smart woman especially when she could have died and given us a true knowing of where she is but we will never know

  9. if none of you can remember in series 9 when the legion members came back and chloe had been taken over by brainiac they said they had no records of chloe sullivan in the future so it was a bit obvious she was going to get killed of sooner or later

  10. I’m a long time fan of smallville and just now catching up on the final season. I have to say i’m really bummed that allison wont be returning. I really enjoyed her character and she added so much to the show. Does anyone know what she has planned for the future???

    • I just got the final season from netflix and I was shocked Chloe wasn’t there. She has been my favorite character from the beginning. I love the episode when she helps Oliver, Clark and crew blow up the Luther Corp building. I don’t know yet how many episodes she appears in but it must be a decent amount because she is shown in the title of the DVD.

  11. R u people serious Chloe is coming back for several episodes in season ten she will be in the premiere then will come back in the middle of the season and then will be back for the series finale so she will be gone for a little bit but definitely not for good
