After a truly amazing ninth season finale, Smallville fans were hoping to catch a glimpse of the promised 2013 future in which Clark Kent has thrown The Blur costume away and finally become Superman.
Unfortunately, that day will never come as The CW is set announce on Thursday, during their upfront, that Smallville season 10 will also be the series’ last.
Tom Welling, proving that not only is he faster than a speeding bullet, but also The CW’s public relations, revealed the news of Smallville’s final season to Hollywood Life while attending a party celebrating the release of legendary film producer Jerry Weintraub’s new book. Welling said:
“Season 10 of Smallville will be the last season”
While the news is a huge blow to Smallville fans that have invested nine years in the series, keep in mind that there’s still one more season left. With the foreshadowing provided in the season 9 finale, there’s a good chance that the season 10 will not only be its last, but also its best.
We all know that by the end of Smallville, Clark has to not only fly, but also become Superman. Hopefully, with all the “training” required for him to reach those goals, The CW will at least give us a couple episodes with Clark as the legendary Man of Steel, instead of waiting until the final moments of the series finale to have him don his infamous red and blues (but don’t bet on it).
Unfortunately, no matter how much flying Clark does, there will still be one big piece of the Superman puzzle missing: Lex. A couple of months ago, actor Michael Rosenbaum stated that he will not be returning to Smallville. Although, with Smallville coming to an end, maybe his former cast members can coax him into returning – even if it is only for one episode.
…a man can dream, right?

Smallville is a great show, and I’ve watched it since day one. I’m huge Superman fan though and the storyline for Smallville is nowhere close. I will say this Smallville is entertaining and will be missed. I really hope they decide to either keep it or start a spin off from it. Anything to keep something this entertaining alive. someone in a previous post said Lana and Clark never get together but that is not true they were high school sweethearts. And with anyone that is a die hard Supes fan and Hates the series. I ask you this Please watch the show with a open mind, and remember that in the DC universe there many earthes and with each earth there is a different story. So all Smallville did was add another earth to the DC universe.
Come on…you must be kidding me….You cant end smallville….Keep going…Why stop?….This is a hit……….Don’t disappoint us
Smallville is a very interesting show and it is AMAZING I’ll have to admit and also it perfectly fits into the channel SyFy… In my opinion SyFy is the best and is my most favorite channel and Smallville is the best series of that channel and if this will be the last season of Smallville please make it so everyone will talk about it and not how awful it is but how awesome it is and if this series ends than on this channel they should put something on that can at least compete with Smallville because I have watched a lot of movies and there actually are a lot of good and very interesting movies but I have not yet seen a series this awesome, I think Smallville should not end otherwise there should be something even better coming up… and as everyone know people watch this series almost all over the whole world and I bet a lot of people will be very mad and pissed off… so please try to keep it going.

are u serious? yeah lets stop an awesome show and one that is all falling into place and go away and watch more eps of true blood and all the other garbage thats being made, superman is a classic, smallville has millions of followers, end it when its time to end it, there is so much more to unfold and if fans have to put up with a rushed end to a 10th season becoz it couldnt all be fit in, it will leave a lot of ppl shattered
Tom Welling in smallville has played his butt off throughout this past 9 seasons He has been one of the best superman charecters to play super man in a long time and it is sad it is coming to an end. Ive been watching superman reruns since george reeves reruns even though the acting back thenm was horrible but he is what put superman on my rader.
Ive watched all of christopher reeves superman movies and even the remake of the movie that came out a couple of years ago.In that movie lois had a son by clark i hope they do run a spinoff some like was said ealier justice leauge i know it sounds corny but even batman was a part of the comic justic leauge yea a spinoff would be great we watch rerun of smallville on hdnet there on every every weekday morning at 7am just leage would be perfect with justin hartley THE GREEN ARROW it can bring in more of the dc charactersand a leage of super villians smallville will be missed.

Season finale from Smallville should be in 2013 how we see in “Salvation”, while in Supernatural end should be in 2014, a year after Smallville really ends how we can see in season 5th episode “The End”.
Continue to this show 2 years after this one, let Darkseid come to Earth and be the real villain for 11th season among with the other Apokaliptian characters that not appear in this season. For this season a main villain could be Granny Goodness among with Female Furies and Kalibak.
Let Darkseid just to be born and be villain for the next one.

I wouldn’t have a problem with the show ending if they can move over to the “Justis League”. I’ve watched Smallville from the beginning and see where they have been introducing the charters from the Justis League. When they started that my family and I felt like we found a new and awesome show all over again. Most shows stop going why this one?
I completely agree! Smallville was and is a family show for us. If no other night of the week due to schedules and life.. we all clear our schedules for Smallville!!! And if one absolutely cannot be there.. we record it and no one watches it until we are together! I agree.. if they are going to end Smallville.. they should bring on the Justice League.. come on CW.. its only fair to your loyal and faithful followers of Smallville!!! We have not missed a show yet since the show first started.. don’t do this to us now!!!! I SAY BRING ON THE JUSTICE LEAGUE ITS THE ONLY WAY!!!

I think it USED to be a family show – but then it got dark (one episode reminded me of the Saw movies) and they started throwing in sexual/nudity stuff. Not a family show any more as far as I’m concerned.

It would be nice if they had a JLA spinoff, but also I hope they would introduce Wonderwoman, John Stewart as GL (or bring Hal Jordan from the WWII era like they did Hawkman) and Batman at least in some of the episodes.
Is lana coming back this season cause i miss her in smallville she need to make an entrance into at least one of the episodes and why does it have to come to an end i love smallville gives me something to look forward to during deployments to iraq

After reading what Tom Welling had to say, it sounds like they wanna try to get all the regulars to make atleast one guest appearance. Especially Lana near the end of season knowing of-course she was always Clark’s first love in the comics. He’s even goin out on a limb to bring Michael Rosenbaum back as Lex which i hope he succeeds. I guess all will be revealed in proper time. After reading the Spoilers, it sounds like the final season will be on a promising start. I really hope to see clark in the Superman costume to do battle with Darkseid in the final episode, and have Darkseid appear in live action like Doomsday was, not CGI or anything.
I wish Paul Satterfield with his likeness to Christopher Reeve would have appeared as the ” The Eradicator,” on Smallville.
Since Smallville has continued to do so well in the rating, and with all the Superman fans starving from lack of Man of Steel, why not continue the show with Superman? Granted, I would at that point change the title since very little of the series takes place in Smallville anymore…but TV has not had a Superman series is sooooo long (Smallville doesn’t count since he’s not Superman yet).

I agree. It would be nice to see a live-action Superman series on tv again. Like others id suggest they title the show Metropolis to have it fresh as a new show at the sametime share continunity from Smallville. I was fan of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman back in the 90′s and id like to see Tom Welling’s & Erica Durance’s Lois Lane in their own Superman show. Id sign a petition if i know where to go. Question is will Tom Welling, Erica Durance, Maybe Michael Mckean return as Clark Kent/Superman Lois Lane, Perry White Respectfully? Most of all if Michael Rosenbaum declines to play Lex Luthor again, who can replace him? Or can the show survive without him just as the past few seasons of Smallville have?
I too loved Lois & Clark. And changing the name = Fresh: EXACTLY. Same show at the core (producers/writers/Actors) with a new name and new plot. Hopefully someone at WB/Warner Bros. is smart enough to figure this out. it seems unfortunate that on ALL the networks, the execs care little for what the fanbase wants but instead want to introduce new and “better” shows, and to do that they need to rid of the older shows. Then the new “better” shows get canned (because their crap)…and at the cost of the show that was good, had a fanvase, and was successful.

Thats a understatement about how they never really listen to the fanbase see what good thing they got already and use it as much as they can. What’s that saying, Good business is where you find it? Somthing like that. The only problem they ask themselves is would they be able to get the 3 most important actors from Smallville to reprise their roles for this series? Tom Welling, Erica Durance, Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor. Im sure Michael Mckean wouldnt mind reprising his role as Perry on full time basis. Id be happy to sign a petition if i find one. Im just skeptical about the actors would wanna move on to other projects just as the creaters do. Not to mention they would be worried about certain rights they will have till the Superman reboot film comes out.
why oh why do they get rid of the best shows like Smallville and Lincoln Heights (daughter and I watched together) and replace them with reruns and them stupid ‘reality’ shows??? those are severe buzz kills!!!
If this is the last season, at least bring back all the other Heros’ introduced over the years as well as the ‘Heros’ from the future.
I was sliightly disapointed that they only had Static Shock in for a few minutes in 1 episode with the WWE Wrestler Batista.
maybe they should Make a movie -it’ll be way better than what the movie studio will produce.
to be honest I already knew smallville was coming to a end. Too bad I been watching the show since season 1 and every season gets better and better. And since this is the final season I got a good feeling that this will be the best season ever!
P.S I hope clark finally learns how to fly!
A Justice League live-action show seems good, knowing they kinda tried somthing like it before with a pilot that featured a team of Flash, Martian Manhunter,Fire,Ice,Atom, & a Green Lantern that resembled Guy Gardner costume wise. But id like to see the original rolster of Superman, Batman, WonderWoman, Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman, Green Arrow.
After Nolan’s 3rd Batman film, doesn’t anyone think it would be good to have a live-action Batman series? Reason i ask is what is seen in the beginning of each episode of the series of Birds Of Prey that shown Batman, Joker & Catwoman as she appeared in Batman Returns but with long hair showing in the back as in some of the comics. Not to mention how Barbara was seen in a better lookin Batgirl costume in one episode that looked like the one from the comics & New Batman Adventures episodes. I think it would be great to have a live-action Batman series on tv again. And im sure they could just about every character from the comics to good use, even Robin in every other episode, not all but off & on like Batman: TAS.
Noooooo, they cant take smallville off rhe air. I have every season of smallville and have watched every episode. Watching tv is going to suck now because smallville isnt gonna be on anymore. I have fallin in love with this show and they should keep making more seasons. i know money shouldnt be an issue because so many people love and watch this show. I THINK THAT IT SHOULD NOT END AT ALL FOR A COUPLE OF MORE SEASONS BECASUE I THINK THAT IT IS THE BEST SHOW ON TELEVISIONS RIGHT NOW AND IT SHOULD KEEP CONTINUING AFTER SEASON 10 BECAUSE I WOULD CONTINUE TO WATCH IT EVERY NIGHT ITS ON. I LOVE THE SHOW AND HOPE ITS CONTINUES AFTER SANSON 10
Sad to see the end is near. I hope the final season gives us what we want to see. Clark dons the red and blue and finally flies ! Does anyone else think that they should make a movie with the cast of Smallville ? I heard that the Superman Returns sequel The Man of Steel is on hold or they’re doing another reboot. With Brandon Routh gone who better to play Supes than Tom Welling ? That would definitely interest me.

I heard about them having Routh re-auditioning for the role of Superman cause supposely the Clark Kent in the planned Man Of Steel film wont be the clumsy Clark. More like the Clark from Lois & Clark tv series probly. Who knows, maybe Tom Welling might be a contender as Nolan mentioned casting comes second.
I wished they would let Tom Welling be superman for at least 1 session. if they don’t then it will make me regret being a fan.. its what the fans want. why not give it to them? makes me think they could care less about the fans.. but with out the fans smallville would have not made it this far.. give us what we want..

Superman must appear in this show before apocalypse of Lex Luthor, so Lex must return in 11th season, run for presidency in 2013 and trigger an ultimate apokolips.
I think they should have a show about superman after smallville. And one more thing is that the ship Clark came in was supposed to be big enough so he could go back and see for himself krypton is gone. Just a thought

He blew up his ship because he didnt wanna leave everyone he loved as Jor-El told him they served their purpose & and it was time to leave them to begin his training at the end of Season 2. Thats when afterwards the ship blows up resulting in Martha losing her baby and Clark putting on Chloe’s Red Kryptonite ring on and heads off to Metropolis.

Why is everyone so eager for the Justice league and Clark wearing the blue and red? Smallville made the Superman story into it’s own. It changed things and that’s why we love it. After a while watching the same Superman story will get old. If you ask me, I’d much rather have him end up with Lana than Lois. The only thing I’ve agreed with so far from everyone is the fact that this show should MOST DEFINATAELY NOT BE ENDING! The CW needs to think about what the fans are dying for. I’m only 15 and I want to be able to enjoy the only show on ALL television that I like at least until I graduate high school. Clark Kent, Not Superman, has given me moral values and helped me be a better person in the long run. Please continue this show. And who cares if it’s gone a little dark. It’s still Smallville. And what’s this I hear about Chloe not appearing very often.? Chloe in my opinion is 100X more important than Lois. I was kinda hoping that Smallville would make the show it’s own and have Clark end up with either Lana or Chloe. Nonetheless, that didn’t happen and I’m still a loyal fan. The point i’m trying to make is we may not see everything we imagine happening in the show, but even if it doesn’t happen we will watch the show forever. How can the CW possibly end it..? Consider what I’m saying to whomever it may consern…

I always hoped that Clark would fall for Chloe. But, I’m loving Chloe and Green Arrow. I don’t miss Lana at all. I never thought she was loyal to Clark much. She usually believed the worse about him whenever there was a bad situation happening in her life. Then, she goes and falls for Lex. Then, they make her a superhero. Every male that ever came on the show had to fall for Lana, even the girls! I love Lois. But, they’ve relegated her to being a mushy lovestruck woman in every episode, as opposed to being the tough woman she was in the beginning. But, everyone knows Lois was the one he ultimately ended up loving and having a child with. Lana married and had a child of her own. So, it was inevitable that she would leave the show. I’m glad they made her character more interesting. I think they need to bring Lex back. Even if it’s another actor or older.
And, a Justice League or movies would be nice. But, keep the television cast. I understand them wanting to do other things. But, I’ve seen Tom Welling in about 3 movies, and sorry he just looks out of place. He’s directing and producing shows now, and so is Allison. I agree with you that the show created a more interesting history of Smallville and Clark. I love how they brought all of the characters and actors who worked on any Superman series or movies on the show, even the late Christopher Reeves. However, I disagree with you’re comment that most looked forward to this series eventually ending. That’s just it, the way they wrote this show, I couldn’t wait for the next week. I never thought about it ending. The last 3 years have been the best of this series. You can tell just by how the show was still a success after the departure of the parents, Lana, Lionel, and Lex.
They really should not end this show. Until, it’s apparent that people don’t love it anymore. Now that it gets great, that’s when they want to end it on an even 10 year mark. And, they have nothing good replacing it! The show taught great lessons. But, it was never supposed to be a moral show. The teens just grew up and they lived the realistic lives that many live today. It started as family because they were in high school and no one really believed it would be successful. But, grown adults loved it as much as the teens. I’m 44 years old! So, I agree with most of what you said aside from a few things. I’m glad it helped you in your life. Let’s hope they surprise us and announce they aren’t going anywhere!

I agree with Ben. If CW keep running season after season the show may end on a bad note due to lack of ideas or for some other reason.
Smallville is awesome and would easily be my favorite show. I am amazed that each episode continues to deliver and that the show has improved with every season. I only wish that Smallvillle was shown in Australia and then I wouldn’t have to download the episodes each week to keep up to date.

Everyone was hoping for an amazing 10th season to wrap things up and if youve been watching it so far you shouldnt be dissapointed. Wont give any spoilers away but the show is finally going in the direction that made so many people wonder why Lana/Clark dragged out so long. The show has transitioned from a teen drama setting up story for diehard superman fans to a actual superman tv show. The last few seasons have gotten far more adult and dark and season 10 is really pulling it all together without rushing it like i thought they might. The fact anyone thinks Clark should have or would have ended up with anyone EXCEPT Lois in the end is sort of a joke becauce the entire direction of the show has set up for the rest of the Superman movies/fanfiction without messing it up. Yea the stuff in smallville may have gone TOTALLY off and just made a story BUT it added to the fanfiction without messing up the superman story. In the end of smallville clark HAS TO:
1) Be with Lois, Duh
2) Have a final encounter with Lex (or bring him back into the equation somehow, i could see the final episode with clark saving metropolis flying around and then You see Lex walking toward him or somethin)
3) Figure out that hes not a farmboy anymore and he is a SUPERMAN (Thankfully i feel like this is getting closer but no cigar YET).
Some of my personal opinions after reading the other comments here and have been watching the show for several years now, (Have em all on DvD and watched many times over lol).
