Smallville: Season 10 Will Be Its Last

The day that Smallville fans have been dreading is finally here. The CW will announce on Thursday that the long-running superhero drama will be ending after Season 10.

Tom Welling: Smallville Season 10 Will Be Its Last

[Update: Be Sure To Check out our Smallville Season 10 Premiere Review!]

After a truly amazing ninth season finale, Smallville fans were hoping to catch a glimpse of the promised 2013 future in which Clark Kent has thrown The Blur costume away and finally become Superman.

Unfortunately, that day will never come as The CW is set announce on Thursday, during their upfront, that Smallville season 10 will also be the series’ last.

Tom Welling, proving that not only is he faster than a speeding bullet, but also The CW’s public relations, revealed the news of Smallville’s final season to Hollywood Life while attending a party celebrating the release of legendary film producer Jerry Weintraub’s new book. Welling said:

“Season 10 of Smallville will be the last season”

While the news is a huge blow to Smallville fans that have invested nine years in the series, keep in mind that there’s still one more season left. With the foreshadowing provided in the season 9 finale, there’s a good chance that the season 10 will not only be its last, but also its best.

We all know that by the end of Smallville, Clark has to not only fly, but also become Superman. Hopefully, with all the “training” required for him to reach those goals, The CW will at least give us a couple episodes with Clark as the legendary Man of Steel, instead of waiting until the final moments of the series finale to have him don his infamous red and blues (but don’t bet on it).

Unfortunately, no matter how much flying Clark does, there will still be one big piece of the Superman puzzle missing: Lex. A couple of months ago, actor Michael Rosenbaum stated that he will not be returning to Smallville. Although, with Smallville coming to an end, maybe his former cast members can coax him into returning – even if it is only for one episode.

…a man can dream, right?

Smallville: Season 10 Will Be Its Last

What do you think of Smallville finally ending? What are you expecting out of the final season? Will Clark become Superman? Is there any way Michael Rosenbaum will return to the series?

The tenth and final season of Smallville returns this fall on The CW.

  1. Well all great things must come to an end I guess. At least we get one more. michael rosenbaum I really hope he comes back as lex because seseans 1-7 with him made it really great. Even if it’s jus for one show that would blow my mine. No super hero should go with out his super villin. Can’t wait till it’s comes out in the fall.

  2. I hate it as much as anyone does, but all good things do come to an end. I too am looking forward to Tom blasting out onto the screen in the blue and red, so here’s to hoping he will. As for a movie with SMALLVILLE cast? I would certainly go to see it, that is for sure. I have been a fan of the Man of Steel since I can remember, and I can tell you, SMALLVILLE has done a fantastic job of telling the story before the story if you will. I could not stand the Adventures of Lois and Clark, (but then I absolutely can NOT stand Terri Hatcher) never the right touch ever, but SMALLVILLE has hit all the notes, bar none. So lets all give a big Kryptonian salute to all the hard work and success of SMALLVILLE!

  3. I have to admit, I will be sadden after season 10 is over. What do you think of a new show, say “Metropolis” or some other name being shown on a major network. Since Disney has a major network and now owns the rights to DC Comics, is it out of the question that we could see Superman live on?? I know, sounds crazy. Lois and Clark made it for a while, and I think Smallville is a lot better than it ever was. Here’s hoping for more!!!
    Marty in Muncie

    • Marty: Disney owns Marvel which is Spider-Man. DC who owns Superman is owned by Warner Bros.

      • Isn’t it great when people say they are fans of smallville and superman and don’t know anything about the company that owns him?

  4. Thank u CW for this please i can’wait for smallville season 10 to come out.i want to know what happened to lana lang and when the season is actually coming.

  5. I wanted to see Tom Welling Become Superman fully.

  6. DON’T END THIS SHOW BECAUSE MORE VILLAINS (DARKSEID, GOG, IMPERIEX, MONGUL, SOLOMON GRUNDY maybe) SHOULD COME UNTILL 2013 AND LEX LUTHOR (ROSENBAUM) most show up finally and become president like in Hourglass, Scare, Apocalypse and Salvation. DON’T END THIS SERIES AT SEASON 10.

    • Lex could return even without Rosebaum… maybe with some plastic surgery.

It wouldn’t be the first time the Lex Luthor character has altered his face to hide from others… actually it would be like the original young superman comics if he did.

    • Solomon Grundy want pants too!

  7. we want lex back!!!!!!!!

  8. I CANNOT BELIEVE SMALLVILLE IS ENDING!!! It’s sad, but i’m so sad (no offense to the actress) that Lana Lang is out of the picture of Clana and Clois is in and is thriving. I want more Clark and Lois scenes and alot more of Superman coming into play. It was a bummer the way season nine ended and in my opinon left me heartbroken yet thrilled. Thrilled for one because the famous Lois Lane has put the pieces together that not only is her boyfriend the blur, but he’s also the mystery man that owned the other half of her heart. I am really thrilled, Law school will be so mind wrenching, I need smallville to be my piece of happiness when I come home.

  9. I am a 66 year old man. I have been watching all of the Superman series. What will I do with out the Superman chareater. Why can’t Smallville run for more seasons? I am sure it is not because there are not enough fans. Let’s set a record for Smallville as the longest series on tv.
    Will there be any movies?

  10. Ok so the CW is going to take one of it’s most successfull shows off the air and keep America’s next Top Gaydol. Let not forget the desparate measure they have taken with trying to bring back 90210. Come on really the original show hasn’t even been off the air for 10 years. Im sorry nothing can beat the Walshes..lol…Or how about this for a show idea. Let run off the success of Twilight and come out with a Vampire TV series. Yeah!!! cause that sounds like an original idea. Or how about a show that deals with upscale young adults living in NYC and sleep around with each other. That would be a great idea..The network sucks, they totally screwed Smallville and the loyal fans of 9 years over by putting it in the Friday night slot in hopes to get the ratings down as much as possible. But Smallville fans stayed loyal and ratings held strong. So because the big network dorks that think they know what there doing failed with day/time switch decided to make a “executive” decsion and cancel the show. There is so much more to the story that they haven’t even scratched the surface. I know Tom Welling in the early years of the show wasn’t on board with the idea of flying and the Superman suit. But it’s been 6 seasons since he graduated high school. If the show was going to stay true to the origins of Clark Kent then end the show after season 4 or maybe 5. But they’ve gone so far with the character and with so much potential on where it could go. But if 10 is the end. Then I say pull out all of stops. This should be they year Clark becomes the Man of Steel. Not at the end which I have this nagin feeling we’re going to get the classic Superman ending with him flying over Earth and bam the end. Clark should establish the suit and Superman early on. Bring back all the big villians that made Clark the hero he has become with one last show down leading to Lex. I’m talking Brainiac,Bizzaro,Doomsday, and Zod. Perry White has to be in the Daily Planet. Jimmy Olson has to come back, though I haven’t thought of a cleaver way to do it. They should do at lease 2 Justice League and Justice Society Episodes. The average season has about 21/22 episodes. I say give us 28/30. What’s it really going to do if they add 5 to 8 more shows to the Final Season. The fans that have stayed loyal to the show, have stayed loyal for reason beyond fans that were loyal to past shows like original 90210, Seinfield, Cheers or even Lost. We’re talking about Superman. Plus the fact that Tom Welling is identified as Superman without the suit or flying is a pretty dam good accomplishment. He has bridged the gap that most people always wonder about and how it would be portrayed. I say movies should be the next step if not for the cast maybe for Welling to portray the character on the big screen. Nobody else is better fit for the role and he would truly be identified as Superman since we’ve watched him grow into the character for the last 10 years. I welcome anyone opinions. Please be gentle on the gramar. It’s been a long day and it’s really late. But I think you get the point.

    • First of all, please stop dissing gossip girl and vampire diaries! Gossip girl is a good show, and I think that Vampire Diaries was also a book be… No sorry! Vampire Diaries were books before becoming a series! And yeah this might be the series finale, and yeah I’ve only started watching Smallville from about 2 years now, but maybe it is ok to end now. Remember that smalville is the times of a young clark. The surface maybe hasn’t been “scratched” because clark should face these guys as superman not as the blur. Ending show with Clark becoming superman is no problem to me. Remember that the show is about the pre-superman era. And I kinda like that the show is coming to an end becuase, and here’s the kinda good news. At least Smallville might not end prematurely like other shows like how I “heard” heroes did. Some of the fans fear is to see the show end prematurely. Now, there are some things that you said that I don’t really agree to or think is necessary. First, so what if Clark has an ending that he flies around the world in the end?! At least the show would have accompllished its goal. And that’s getting Clark to fullfill his prophecy/destiny! Jimmy Olsen can’t come back. He doesn’t have to really. I think JAMES(Jimmy) little brother name is Jimmy too. So his brother will be Jimmy for Superman. And not all the old villains have to come back, just maybe Lex only, and there can be another great evil with Lex to give Clark a problem. Oh, and I agree with you about the lenght of the seson. Maybe it should have 32 last episodes or so. I have a list of ideas I wanna see in season 10. Write back to me at Kingtavish@yahoo.com and I’ll tell you what they are.

      • Smallvilles Had a good running so far And it’s still missing alot of details. Like How does Lois Forget about clark. and whats with the superman outfit and clark outfit. my god PLEASE DON’T END SMALLVILLE!!!!
I just turned 17 today and i’m still begging for this show to go on. One of my Favorite shows was canceled In the third season. It ended with The Main Character Choking The Enemy while this was said… “My Mother” Said Cassidy “What about her?” replied kyle “She’s your mother too, I’m your brother” Answered Cassidy. I would very much like for Smallville to Continue because I Love the show The ratings were off the charts So WTF is wrong with the CW? If they end the show when Clark Finnally Puts His suit on and Flies Off Into space or something I’ll Never watch another CW Program The ratings of shows might just go down after People follw that example. Clark is not yet ready for the suit he needs at least another couple Seasons before hes truly ready. All they need to do is replace the Actor for Lex with my high school principle He’s bald and evil enough for the part. lol

If your wondering the show i mentioned was KYLE XY It was a very cool show and i still enjoy watching it.

      • HEY do u know where i can see vampire daires online cuz i missed them on tv cuz of work so if u do coukd u send me the the url though email thx

    • Ok I agree with some of what you said but Seinfeld did not deserve to be on the air for as long as it did and yes, that also includes Friends, which left me dumbfounded on how unfunny it was.

A Joey spinoff? you’ve gotta be joking

One thing I don’t understand is why Rosenbaum isn’t returning as Lex for at least an episode or two. To me the producers are going to have to pull all the stops to distract the fans on this one. Hopefully the entire season and especially the finale won’t be bittersweet.

      The following shows suck…

Vampire Diaries – Obvious Twilight fodder. It’s based on it’s own series of books but the UNDESERVING Twilight phenomenon gave it the push it needed to get on the air.

Gossip Girl – Title should be changed to “Nosey Bitch” filled with young overactors who are more or less 90210ish, or just plain annoying!

90210 – Are you serious? Theres NOTHING 90210 about this show. Bringing in some of the cast from the original series was just a cheap trick to pull in viewers, and a lame excuse to connect the two shows.

Melrose Place – See 90210 comment

Meanwhile, good shows like (Heroes) and (Legend of The Seeker) face cancellation or tv limbo. Syfy you’re idiots for not taking these shows!!!!

Smallville has lasted longer than anyone expected. I’ve been a fan of the show through it’s ups (and major downs) and think it’s the best Superman show thats been made to date.

However you have to realize that the actors of the show want to persue other roles and that is completely understandable. Let’s just hope the last season does the show justice.

    • I totally agree with you. Smallville is an amazing show that can’t just end, CW you’re going to disappoint alot of fans that are loyal to CW, including myself.
I’m greatfull for you guys for running season 10, but there has to be season 11, and 12 and so on untill supermans hair turns gray. If you guys cancel this show, CW won’t be the same and you know it too.
      Please don’t cancel Smallville.

    • Damn! You took the words right out of my mouth my friend. Tom Welling really has kicked ass as Superman. When it first came on in England, i thought it was just a cheesy knock off and did not get in to it until the end of season 2. I had to search the internet to download the first 2 seasons and watched every episode back to back over two days or so. I was begging for more after that. Now i just cant get enough. I have only read a few of Marvels Comics and i have no idea about half of the villains he has faced. It would be proper genius if they could introduce some fresh villains from the comics to the Smallville episodes of season 10, or if possible, season 11. I just hope they dont get distracted and destroy all the hard work they have achieved over this last decade. That would be a sad ending in its self. The only other show of this sort that i can think of and that’s Stargate SG1, which ran for 10 years before they ended it. Even that spawned a few run off shows, Atlantis and Universe. All we can do is sit back and hope that they make the right choice. At least one thing, you get to find out before we do. They have just started showing season 9 in England. I could not wait to find out what was going on week by week, and i chose to download all of season 9 before it got aired over here. I made myself watch only 2 episodes per day to try and drag it out a little bit longer. Now i am climbing the walls waiting for 10 to become available.

  11. I have followed the show since the very first episode. I am very sad to hear that it will soon be ending. Smallville has without a doubt been my favorite show of all times. Although I’m not quite sure why you end a show that is still in good standings in the ratings. I mean there are apparently lots of people that would love to see it continue. After all if there are people that still tune in everyday to watch General Hospital, and Days of our Lives, then surely there is a big enough audience to run a show of Smallville’s stature successfully once a week! Well I’m gonna get off my soap box. I just really hate to see the really good shows go off the air to be replaced by some other second rate series. Last bit I want to touch on is the fact that Tom Welling has played a great part with the Superman character. I would hope that if there is ever another Superman movie that Tom will have the opportunity to play the role that in my opinion he has made famous again. That’s right not since Christopher Reeve has anyone made a better Superman! Thanks to everyone involved in bringing this show to us for the past few years. It has truly been a joy and a privilege to watch!

  12. I think season should end with a bang and have a superman movie following up with the season finally , tom welling is the perfect character for the next superman movie

  13. WTF?! Why would they wanna end Smallville! Somebody said, “First of all, please stop dissing gossip girl and vampire diaries!” I say to hell with gossip girl and vampire diaries! (If you like those shows then don’t pay me no mind. I speak freely.) I been watchin’ Smallville since I was a lil’ kid. My mama was watchin’ Smallville. They better be just playin’ around ’cause if they cut Smallville…I’m gonna cause all kinds of hell in all CW comment posts! (They might surprise us….)

  14. By “WTF”, I mean “What the Feezy”.

  15. hello, i’m from sweden and i’ve realy loooove the show, does anyone know when season 10 is getting out? i’m looking forward to se whats going to happend… i can’t wait! sorry but i’m not a good english whriter but please answer me :) have a good night sleep everyone!!

  16. look do not end this show after season 10 …. plzzz cuz i have watched every episodes from season 1 to 9 and still impatiently waitin for season 10…and if this will be the last then my waitin wouldnt have been worth it … and there are many more villians left to come …. so yea dont finish it now!!plZZZZ

    • I Agree I just got caught up with all the episodes and am still waiting. What Happens to Clark? Does the Blade Fall out? If it doesn’t Clark will die. He can’t survive the fall without his powers? Maybe That’s When He Flies away. If the Blade Falls out someones bound to notice a man landing in front of them with not a scratch. If It doesn’t He’ll Die From The fall. Most people forget that Clark Is powerless And Could die when exposed to blue Kryptonite.

  17. and btw does anyone know the releasin date for season 10

  18. I don’t watch TV at all. I mean, unless Smallville is on. Clark better fly towards the middle of Season 10. Dats all I have to say about that.

  19. I have watched Smallville since the beginning. I now have friends that come over for Smallville nights. I make dinner and we enjoy watching Smallville. At the beginning of each new season, my friends come over early, we watch the last episode of the previous season, have a great dinner and then watch the new seasons first show. I have all the DVDs and watch the show all the time. I do agree that at long last it is time for this story to end. However, the story must continue with a new series called Metropolis. I do hope that Clark will done the suit – hopefully no later than mid-season. It would be a slap in the face to everyone for CW to have Clark become the Man of Steel the last five minutes of the season 10. How about it CW, give the fans what they want, we are what has kept Smallville going and will continue to be loyal should you decide to have a new series in the Fall of 2011 called Metropolis. I also think the idea of extending the season to at least 30 episodes. The idea of having a Smallville/Metropolis movie sounds great. Having Tom Welling star as Superman I feel would be the best thing to happen to Superman. Tom has portrayed Clark like now one else. To all the fans reading this – lets bombard CW with requests for the series to continue as Metropolis.

  20. hey i love smallville i hope season 10 will be hyper than the others i want to see tom become the superman i know and i want to see more heros in season 10

  21. I should apologize for disrespecting the others shows. Mainly for the simple fact no body has the same taste and everyone is entitle to watch what they want to watch.

But you can’t tell me that there is nothing inventive about Vampire Diaries. I understand that it’s completely different from Twilight. But let’s face no Twilight EQUALS no Vampire Diaries. It’s not exactly people were rushing to the stores to buy the Vampire Diaries…

I think most of agree with 90210. Who ever was the dumb ass that thought of the idea really deserves to be “FIRED”. The only things they should do 90210 related is a reunion with the original cast and maybe some other cast members that came on the show later on like Tiffany Amber.

With reguards to Lex coming back. I’m pretty sure he will now knowing the show is coming to a end. I think Micheal R. wouldn’t pass up the oppertunity one last time unless movies are in the future.

I personally agree with everyone about the movie idea and it’s awesome to see that I’m not the only one out here that thinks a Movie is a must. Not to disrespect any of the actors on the show. But really! what are they going to do after this? Some of them may never get the chance or oppertunities later on with other rolls. Once the spotlight burns out most tv actors seem to just fade away. If a movie was done right it will keep the income coming for a few more years. Plus maybe even sequals. But there is no rumor of movie and I really don’t think there will ever be one. Plus we do have to consider that Welling and the rest of cast maybe ready to just move on with their lives. I’m not a fan of anything else on tv. I don’t spend countless hours watching different shows each week. For the last ten years it’s been only Smallville. I guess after season 10 I won’t need the DVR Box anymore…lol…time for a down grade…lol

  22. tom welling signed for 2 more seasons so season 10 will not be its last season

    • Ted, where did you get the information about Tom signing on for two more seasons?

  23. Ive loved smallville unil lex left then it went downhill. Bring Lex Back for the Finalie………..Mike Rosenbaum you are very selfish if you don’t come back…..please for the fans!!!

  24. guys i live in the uk and think smallville is one of the best programs on tv for a long while. There is only one way to bring smallville back for more seasons and that is for an official petition. So here we go :) . Your signatures wuld be greatly appreciated:http://www.petitiononline.com/Smallvil/petition.html. This could work with all of your support and please send it to all of your friends to spread the word of the cause

  25. For those of you wondering about a Lex Luthor appearance in Season 10… this is from the producers of CW when they and Michael Rosenbaum held a press confrence announcing his departure from the show.

“It has been an honor and pleasure to work with Michael for the past six seasons. He is one of the best actors on television and has never failed to bring a new layer to the character of Lex Luthor in every episode. While Michael won’t be a series regular and we won’t have the pleasure of working with him on a weekly basis this fall, we like to think that we haven’t seen the last of Lex Luthor. Stay tuned.”

So, I too would love to imagine and hope we will see Lex return, perhaps he may yet.

  26. love the series and its gradual evolution from light hearted to a darker more serious tone , plus everything else that is great about the show and should they bring back lex yes. seeing that in my mind the only villians in the superman franchise that are as iconic as the man of steel are lex and zod. to the fact of the last season because cw wants to cancle. may be one of the worst mistakes they can make. seeing as how SV is probably one of their only good shows that gets them sufficient rating other than supernatural and its last season is this year also. the smart thing to do would keep it 4 atleast 2-3 more years. a smart newtwork would pick up the series after cw cancels . though that is unlikely i still cant wait to see what 10 has to offer.

  27. Hey Sup fans…I too have been watching this series faithfully for the last 9 seasons and I’m sad to see it go. Why is it that TV always needs to kill awesome shows? Look what they did to Angel after just 5 seasons, just when it got great they cancelled it, then only to learn that TV execs did indeed say that they made a HUGE mistake. If they cancel this show after 10 seasons, maybe they should do a spin-off, like say, “Metropolis” (just because they are never there anymore except to feed Clark’s dog lol)…keep it going but change it up a little…put a fresh spin or new outlook on something that people know and like a lot. The days of “reality shows” needs to come to a close and we need to bring back more great shows like Smallville! PS: Lana was great in Smallville (one of the prettest girls on TV alone)…maybe they went a little too long with the Clark and Lana thing but she did contribute a lot to the show and I just wish people would stop bashing her. Lana was great on the show!!! Bring on Metropolis and then we can see Clark with a lot of great story lines with the cape and boots!!! :)

  28. PSS: How about “CSI Smallville” because we seem to need at least 8 CSI’s on tv within one season :P lol :) (I like em all though so can’t complain lol)

  29. Smallville can end.
    Metropolis can begin.
