Smallville: Season 10 Will Be Its Last
May 19, 2010 by Anthony OcasioThe day that Smallville fans have been dreading is finally here. The CW will announce on Thursday that the long-running superhero drama will be ending after Season 10.

After a truly amazing ninth season finale, Smallville fans were hoping to catch a glimpse of the promised 2013 future in which Clark Kent has thrown The Blur costume away and finally become Superman.
Unfortunately, that day will never come as The CW is set announce on Thursday, during their upfront, that Smallville season 10 will also be the series’ last.
Tom Welling, proving that not only is he faster than a speeding bullet, but also The CW’s public relations, revealed the news of Smallville’s final season to Hollywood Life while attending a party celebrating the release of legendary film producer Jerry Weintraub’s new book. Welling said:
“Season 10 of Smallville will be the last season”
While the news is a huge blow to Smallville fans that have invested nine years in the series, keep in mind that there’s still one more season left. With the foreshadowing provided in the season 9 finale, there’s a good chance that the season 10 will not only be its last, but also its best.
We all know that by the end of Smallville, Clark has to not only fly, but also become Superman. Hopefully, with all the “training” required for him to reach those goals, The CW will at least give us a couple episodes with Clark as the legendary Man of Steel, instead of waiting until the final moments of the series finale to have him don his infamous red and blues (but don’t bet on it).
Unfortunately, no matter how much flying Clark does, there will still be one big piece of the Superman puzzle missing: Lex. A couple of months ago, actor Michael Rosenbaum stated that he will not be returning to Smallville. Although, with Smallville coming to an end, maybe his former cast members can coax him into returning – even if it is only for one episode.
…a man can dream, right?

They should also show a montage of scenes from previous seasons during the final credits. That would be a nice sendoff.
Whether we are comic book fanatics who want yet another Superman in the tights flying around, or fans who appreciate the originality that SV has brought to this story – Clark’s journey to becoming Superman – we all want the same thing: Clark must fly. We care about Clark whether he flies or not, but it has to happen. I don’t know why he hasn’t and I’m sure the Showrunners have had good reasons for not letting it be sooner. I’d stake my life on it that we will see it next year. The question is when. The season 10 premiere? The 200th episode? When we don’t see it coming? Maybe it’s unrealistic to expect it every episode for budget reasons. How often did Zod and the Kandorians fly? (I think they were teasing us and heightening our expectations). Just knowing that Clark CAN FLY would be so amazing. He would probably be flying under the radar without anyone seeing him, except for the people who already know who he is, for most of the season. Then when he has figured out how he will pull off the double idenity and is ready to don the suit, he can reveal himself and let the world see him fly in all his glory – the last episode? Seeing Clark fly is #1 on my wishlist. #2 would be for Chloe’s story to end without her dying. I know that may not happen and I trust they will give her a well deserved send-off.
I think maybe that Zod flying was somewhat them testing how it looked. I mean when Clark finally flies I know I don’t want it to look corny.
If I recall, Clark did fly (as Kal-El) in Season 4, Episode 1 when he ripped the door off Lex’s plane to snag a missing artifact =) Took him almost 3 mins flying halfway around the world to get there, but still a very cool scene.
Smallville is a great tv series.. and i am sad that it ends in next season/.. but concidering that i am greatly hoping to see a new tv series with the same cast for the legendary superman. We had enough foreplay. i think it is the time for the man of steel to play it through.. so cw please make a new tv series after this making its plot ” SuperMan”
Please come up with a Kara spin-off.
Kara is LONG gone – they don’t even acknowledge she ever existed or what happened to her on the show.
And the worst part is that Laura Vandervoort said she loved being on the show and she’d come back. In season 8 (her one episode) she said that she heard rumors in the phantom zone that Kandor still existed. Yet when the Kandorians come back and are running a muck, she’s nowhere to be found. It doesn’t make sense that she didn’t appear in season 9.
I think they should bring her back. I mean she was like Smallville’s Megan Fox. Except she didn’t suck!!!

yeah and she came back in the highest rated episode of Season 8 Called Bloodline! just to leave again Sadly! (sigh) and in season Nine premire Clark was asking Jor-el why is it that he still cnat fly but Kara Can, and jorel says something about kara accepting her kryptonian side , but that mentally clark still fully hasnt

If season 10 is the last one, they should do a spin-off like JL,LoS or simply called Superman, with more enemies (Darkseid, Imperiex, Mongul…) and more tension.
i remember a few seasons ago when Clark started flying..that was back then when Lana and Lex and his father was in it though.
I remember when he flew in season 4 and caught up to Lex’s plane. Of course he was Kal-El at that time. I also remember in season 2 I believe, he woke up from a dream and was floating three feet above his bed.
This season of Smallville has been one of the best.
I love what they have done with the superman mythology and think the writers are finally getting it right.
I DONT WANT smallville to end so after season 10 I hope to see a new show Metropolis.
Tom Welling is the BEST superman & if WB dont want to make a new movie with Tom as Superman, then the CW should keep it going.
The ratings have been alot better since moving to Friday & the fan base is there so I think and hope it will continue.

They should follow the correct path of Smallville and in 2013, when Lex announces run for presidency, Superman must appears, so can Michael Rosenbaum returns in show or they can do something that follows that path in a spin-off like Superman or Metropolis.
There was not a lot of tension but the writers knew how to prepare things for the upcoming season. What I liked the most was that non-powers fight between Clark and Zod and the final scene where Clark is falling was just great. I hope we can see Zod again in season 10 and more often the other superheroes like Hawkman.
If the world was perfect and producers and execs did exactly what fans and viewers wanted them to do….Smallville would start next season with Superman being brought to the fortress for Jor-el to save him and he would exit the fortress as Superman in the suite and we would have an entire season as him being Superman. Unfortunately, we all know that will not happen. I do hope, however, that he becomes superman before the final moments of the series finale. I hope he flies very early on in the season because that is another thing we all want to see…..But I just hope theses events all happen sooner than later……
……..Oh, and for this to all happen (see my previous response), Jor-el will have to take away all memories of Clark that those close to him have…with the exception of his mother…..
Oh no I hope this does not happen i.e. Clarke losing his memory. I so wish the love story between Clarke and Lois does not end just as that with Lana did. I so much love them together, They are just a dream couple.
to Supergirl…..I didn’t mean clark will lose his memories, but those who know him well will lost their memories of him….so when he starts flying around for all to see, they won’t think that the mild-mannered Clark is superman…..
why would their memories have to be removed? there are several comic story lines where there are many people within the hero and support community that know supermans identity. in many lines wonder woman, batman and others in the jla call him clark. there has also been a watchtower. more often just written off as a computer center for jla but chloe could still be the human component. doing away with the mythos of no one knowing his identity would be a benefit. it would make more sense if those close to him knew and helped him protect the world and his secret. superman has never been just one man but a supporting cast that upheld his ideal. one man wore the suit but others always gave him a reason to wear it.
A couple seasons ago they brought in Dean Kane as a Doctor that has the ability to wipe out memories. One of the main hurdles the show has to overcome is how does everyone not know that Clark Kent without glasses is not Superman? Everyone knows the Blue Blurr right now. They will certainly assume the Blue Blurr is Superman once that tranformation happens. However, how does everyone else not know? A memory loss could be involved. Or they can just ignore it all and move on with the story line and assume we are all ignorant which I don’t think they will do. The memory loss if used may play a key role as to whether or not Chloe lives or dies. I know that everyone wants Chloe to live but she is not a real character in the Superman saga. So either wipe out her memory and she moves on with her life not knowing.. or she does indeed sacrafice her life to help Clark and his destiny.
it is the saddest news ive heard in a long time. i mean i never thought smallville would ever end:( i dont understand y the C.W net work are doing this because smallville has good rating and super kool fans:( just when things are going good they do this
i smallville is the best and it deserves the best ever ending in history i want clark to fly and kick some real ass. i also want him to and lois to be together it would be soo good if lex came back i loved him in the early episode his always been a bad boy when ever lex is around trouble soon follows
i jusr wish all the cast the best in the furture i hope this is not the last we see of them it would be superkool if they made SuperMan and life after smallville a girl can hope!!
i just pray that season has the bbest rating therefore C.W might change they mind and see how popular the show is and keep it for another 10 seasons
I love the show, but it is time for Clark to become Superman, no more of this Blur stuff, so tights and Flight, especially if Darkseid is in fact the big baddie. Then again Clark didn’t meet DOOMSDAY until after becoming Superman but yet Doomsday shows up on Smallville.
I also think that they should bring back Micheal Rosenbaum as Lex at least for a few episodes, maybe toward the end of the season.
Either way I am looking forward to an exciting 10th and final season of Smallville. Hey, WB. Tom Welling should play Superman in the next movie, with Erica Durance as Lois.
DOOMSDAY dug his way out of a deep hole in the comics and Clark buried him in a deep hole. He is just rage and destruction personified now, just like he’s supposed to be. There is no way that he can’t be Superman in the next season. Unless seeing a red and yellow “S” is just a taunt like all the futures we’ve seen throughout the series. He has to fly, and he has to be Superman. But it would be great if: a) Lex returns from the dead as lex luthor the second, just like in the comics, b) The last and final conflict was with Doomsday and Superman dies to spawn off a return in another series more aptly named Metropolis (first episode would be called RETURN: Part 1 in an ideal situation for me). Then they could bring in Superboy, Steel, The Eradicator, and the Hank Henshaw which would make for an awesome 1st season for the show and knock superman fans out of their chairs. Instant cult following of the Death and Return of Superman.
Pleas Lois and Clark is already a ratings failure!!

I am a die hard fan of smallville and manage to keep up with the US from the UK – We are just starting to see the first episodes of Season 9 however I have just finished season with you guys in the US.
The smallville team have done a fantastic job however i think a 10th Series been the last was expected – we have followed Clark’s transition from his high school years through to manhood and the discovery of himself.
I have missed Lex and he needs to come back to fulfill his destiny of his arch enemy.
We need the tranistion to superman but not too early in the series.
I am disappointed the series is ending however I think it over the 9 series the show has been done fantasticlly with never a bad series like some of the shows out there Series 10 will be fantastic it we actually complete the trasition to superman.
We obviously know this is not the end of the story, so maybe a spinoff would be cool too if the same style and writers actors directors – a fantastic team, great job and looking forward to the next chapter…..
The best superman adaptation I have seen, loved the creation of the watchtower and all the other characters with powers,
Makes the idea of superman become more believable, and then an opposing team ‘checkmate’ was a brilliant addition to an already
Great storyline. Bringing the human elements into it instead of just focusing on superman was excellent.
Definately think that this is better than the 90s adaptation, maybe the writers could do a new version of that?

I really hope that smallville don’t end i have watched every episode about 2-3 times each this tv show has been my favorite since i started watching and will suck to see it go. I think as long as there is a huge fan base and people expecting to see the next episode and they should keep the series going or think about doing what some others have stated and make another tv series with “superman” as the plot of the story.
Please dont end smallville. It is a great TV series and let clark fly in the last season if it really is.
Bring more enemies and don’t end this series now, when it become more interesting.
End it with a solid, big villain and return of Lex Luthor along with Doomsday.
I’m alittle upset it’s ending when it’s just starting to get really good. I mean superman is just starting to come out. I think they should have 11 season and then call it over. It’s like getting a really good steak but only getting to eat one bit of it. Please try to go for one more after 10th season. I really hope they change there mind.

hey guys im all for bring michael rosenbaum back but he kind of died so i dont see how
, and yeah smalville shouldnt end or they should at least bring another show e.g metropolis, im guessing the suspect of tess mercers murder is the red queen aka martha kent or some on posing as her which we see in episode 21 salvation, i want to know what happened there because it took her a while but tess has some good in her.

In the season 9 finally Clark opens a gift from his mom with a note that reads “Clark if you decide to stay”. The glimmer in Clarks eyes is the Superman logo complete with blues and reds This must certainly be his costume. His mother Martha undoubtedly had it made from the material that helped protect Clark as he travelled from Krypton to Earth as a baby. Season 10 has all the makings to be one of the best ever. Unfortunately Chloe will make the ultimate sacrafice to help Clark reach his destiny which in turn will lead to Clark donning the suit and flying all in the last episode. I think something catrostrophic will occur that will take every bit that Clark has to offer to save the world and to try and save Chloe at the same time. The season ending episode will bring everything together and the return of Lex Luther who will be a main culprit involved in tranforming Clark into Superman.
