Panel attendees included Justin Hartley, Erica Durance, Kelly Souders, Tom Welling, Brian Peterson, Allison Mack, Cassidy Freeman & Callum Blue.
Smallville will be premiering season 9 on Friday, Sept 25th. The DVD for season 8 will be coming out on August 25th.
Writing alum Jeff Loeb moderated, and did a great job,
We then saw the season 9 preview.
It started by saying a hero will rise, and we saw a lot of recap scenes, but then we saw a few from season 9. Clark is wearing a suit folks. But it’s not red and blue. It’s black with a black “S” on the chest. He looks like Neo from The Matrix, but he does wear it well.
“Batman” asked when he’ll be on the show but they somehow managed not to answer the question, though they gave him Tom Welling’s name tag.
Lois will be in many of the episodes in season 9.
At the time of auditions for Clark, the initial audition was for body size, then a script. The first time, Welling needed to be prompted to go to the audition and he thought it was all about the man in the suit and then after reading the script, realized it was different.
Allison Mack said that Chloe was going to be a different ethnicity and threw them a loop when she showed up with attitude.
Callum Blue thought he was auditioning for a role named Mason.
Q: Is Lex really dead? As we know from mythos, Lex is never really dead.
Tom Welling will be directing 2 episodes this year. It’s like 2 hands feeding one mouth, directing. Allison said loves when Tom directs. Very loving, excited approach.
Allison will also be directing this season.
Q: Some are amazed about the slow progress of Clark’s developing powers, but this flying only with a red kryptonite ring is getting old. Will he be flying on his own?
Flying is addressed in the season premiere.
Geoff Johns will be writing an episode this year.

Callum Blue keeps getting asked to say “Kneel before Zod.” It’s pretty good.
I didn’t catch the question, but the girl asking Tom Welling said to take a long time answering so that Tom can keep staring at her.
He took a dramatic pause between each word and all we got was a sigh from the microphone at that point.
They don’t have to stall with their story telling because they have 2 seasons of stories to tell. Now whether they get to season 10, that’s another question.
Metallo will be in the first 2 episodes. We’ll also be seeing the return of Toyman, Roullete and 2 new DC characters but they can’t say who until the casting has been announced.
Green Arrow - we’ll be seeing a lot more of him in season 9.
They’re doing some back story on Oliver Queen this upcoming season. He’ll hit rock bottom in the first episode.
About Getting Into Character:
Harltey gets into character by reading the script and finding what’s the tale of the day.
Tom Welling just says the writers are so great, it’s easy to get into character for shooting.
Allison Mack relates what’s happening in the show with real world events and brings a kind of awareness to the character.
Callum Blue listens to hard core music and punches himself in the face a few times.
There don’t seem to be any plans to bring Jimmy Olsen back.
Someone asked if there are any movie plans with this cast but rather than an answer, all the panel did was ask the audience if they wanted a movie.
They did that a lot with a lot of the questions asked.

And will Chloe have a love interest next season? Chloe and Clark? No, Chloe will not have anything going one with Clark because he’s occupied with a few women in his life. Chloe will be healing from Jimmy’s passing in the front of the season, though it seems she’d like to have Justin Hartley in her life? But that was more a wishful thought, considering the gleam in her eye.
This was Tom Welling’s first ever Comic-Con appearance. Knowing he’s a rather private man, it showed to me this wasn’t his perfect comfort zone. But he did engage the audience well. It was great to see everyone up on the panel.
Pictures will be coming soon!
As promised, check out some pictures I took at the panel:

I’ve watched the show since it started and I must say being a comic fan and a life long superman fan I have found that the seasons are getting better not worse. In regards to the black suit, Superman did wear the black suit with a silver S when he came back from Death after Doomsday in the comics. It was an epic moment and if they could relate that to the show I would be most interested in seeing it.
Yea no t trying to argue here…
I actually read that the network moved the show to fridays so they could pair vampire diaries with supernatural…the producers feel that they are trying to phase the show out and brought tom welling to comic con, in my opinion
Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a great show and I watched it to the end even though the last three seasons stunk. Who knows maybe Smallville will move to UPN too haha
As long as they don’t pull an ‘Angel’, I’ll be happy with whatever we get
Vic, good call…..i also thought the eradictor was going to come back to put the story in line with the death of superman, but I forgot he wore the black suite. Now I’m actually kind of mad if this is true…..because then it would mean that Clark isnt wearing a suite yet. Also, I don’t know if you read this, but in the first episode next season Clark is going to have a conversation with Jor-el about why he can’t fly yet…..you would think the eradicator knows how to fly, right? So maybe it is Clark…..what do you think?
OH, that’s right….just read that it was the eradicator that wore the visor and red and blue….but who knows, Smallville has written their own story thus far…
Hey guys Just have to let everybody know that there is a photo of clark in the new suit for season 9 floating around but it’s NOT real. Several reliable websites I have dubbed this the first official photo of Clark in the new suit for season 9 but it is a complete falsehood.
Yeah, I just read that on kryptonsite too……Look on youtube for comic con trailer for season 9 and the closing scene kind of shows a good scene of him standing on a building above metropolis in his “suite”…..looks cool….
@Scottgia
They keep “cheating” to get things into the show that they said they wouldn’t. They had Clark fly, but only under the influence of red Kryptonite or while “possessed.” And now they’ll do the same with the suit. He’s wearing the suit but it’s not really Clark. I’m sure he’ll be flying as well.
Vic
@ Vic,
I agree with you 100% about the flying and the suit. They said he wouldnt fly but he has, but technically it wasnt him. Now they have said that he would not wear the suit and hear we get another cheat….to be honest at least we got something new…last years something new was doomsday and the yr before was kara…this looks much better
The specific wording for Clark was “no tights, no flights”. So he can fly all he wants as Kal-El, or under the influence (would that be a f.w.i.?). So technically they’re not cheating, but they’ve definitely abused the loophole in the language.
They should’ve just given him the suit that Ollie wore when they fooled “Jimmy” and thrown the silver ‘S’ on that.
I have already watched the first 7 seasons and am watching season 8. I can’t believe that I have forgotten this, but I don’t recall Clark flying under the influence of Red K. (and I can’t believe I would forget ANYTHING he did as the sexy bad boy, esp. flying) Please someone refresh my memory.
Tricia—He actually flew when he was possessed as a full kryptonian by Jor-el……
Scottgia, I know that he flew as Kal El in season 4 (and without the suit), but when did he fly under the influence of Red K, as Vic said?
I remember Clark being under the influence of Red K but I don’t recall him flying: Season 2 “Red” with the class ring and “Rush” when Pete slips the Red K ring into his pocket; the finale “Exodus” and into Season 3 “Exile” while in Metropolis; Season 4 “Unsafe” when Alicia puts a Red k necklace on him; Season 6 “Crimson” when he kisses Lois who’s lipstick is laced with Red K. In that ep he JUMPS with Lois to Oliver’s balcony- at least that is what I thought. Was I wrong? I may need to watch that one again. Except that seeing Lana and Lex together makes me want to throw up, and I hated seeing Clark make such a fool of himself. Lois too.
It really doesn’t matter. I believe he will fly this season but probably without the suit, until the last finale.
@Tricia
I could be mistaken on the flying under Red K thing – my point was that he’s never flown as himself.
Vic
do they have the preview anywhere?
ok nevermind i found it on youtube. all i have to say is F*** Yeah!!!! That looks awesome
Cool, liked it. Very excited for season 9!
“Requiem” was on the CW yesterday and it just solidified why I disliked last season.
But I must say that I did watch teh footage from comic con on youtube and season 10 is looking very promising. The black outfit that Clark is wearing actually looks cooler than the his red and blue tights. Clark looks very dark and edgy this season and I like that approach they are having. Also now we have better and more powerful villains in Zod and Metallo…and they have also brought back the toymaker which is pretty cool. I also caught a split second glimpse of Lex; but the image was from last season’s Requiem episode, I know cause I had just seen it. I think that glimpse of Lex is telling us that he will be around in some form for this season.
To be quite frank, last year when I saw the Doomsday material from comic con I was not in the least bit excited and wound up being very dissapointed with the season’s footage from comic con so far looks fantastic. It looks like they are going to have a lot of action as well which is good.
I am ACTUALLY looking forward to Smallville season 9…I am surprised to hear myself say that
tasouli: Did you notice that a lot of the scenes of the SMALLVILLE characters in the first half of the vid were from last season?
And did anyone notice a blue electrical sheen or static charge on Clark’s face at times? Makes me wonder what that was, if anything at all.
Thoughts?
B
I never noticed the static, but then again it wasn’t really… of the best quality.
Was that Oliver cage fighting?
Did Lois say she was in the future?
Who were all those dudes in the mansion?
Who was that other chick?
@ Bruce
Actually I did notice that many of the scenes were from last season, including the one of Lex. I guess they just did not want to release too much footage and wanted to have a longer clip, who knows. As for the eltrical sheen, what was that?! I caught a glimpse of that and wasnt sure of what to think…guess we’ll know in sept
Foopher: Yes, that was Oliver cage fighting.
I did notice the other things.
I just can’t begin to fathom what the blue electrical sheen is on Clark’s face …
Unless it’s not Clark at all but someone standing in for him.
I think it would be a cool idea of having the Eradicator in place of clark.
The trailer definitely got me pumped for september 25!!!
Ok so i was thinking. Callum Blue’s Zod is supposed to be a younger “Major Zod” right? Well, people had been saying about how i couldn’t be and that it makes no sense that he came out of the orb. I think that he did like Clark’s mom Lara did in season 7. His DNA was in the orb and it replicated himself (his younger version)
…then again maybe not.
all i know is that Clark needs to start flying in the first episode of season 9…..this is getting ridiculous. you know that he wont put on the suit until the very last episode when the cancel the show.
if i had a nickel for every time i heard that…
I’ve been looking at other things superman and i think clark’s suit in the season 9 promo looks like his regeneration suit instead of it being one of the clones
