Season 9 of Smallville is piling on the guest appearances and classic characters.

Entertainment Weekly has let us know that Julian Sands has been cast to play the role of Jor-El and will show up in that role in a November episode.

Apparently he showed up on Earth when Zod and the other Kandorians popped in during that very last scene we witnessed in the season 8 finale of Smallville.

Finally, a face to the voice.

  1. Wow.

  2. WHAT!!! He better at least TRY to sound like Terence Stamp.

  3. Most of the producers ideas have worked out pretty well (except maybe that Lana/superhero thing). At first I didn’t like the idea of Lois coming in so early but they worked her in into the story in a new way. She is now my second favorite character. Erica Durance is an amazing actor who always brings something special to any scenes she is in.
The same for Jimmy Olsen and Doomsday. Both were brought in with a special, alternate aspect that made them both fresh and different from the comic characters.
    I Can’t wait for the 25th.

  4. Me too dude, I have just about loved every new direction these producers have brought to the show, although I do agree with you on the Super Lana thing being a bad idea, and the twist with Jimmy Olsen, but I didn’t think either one ruined last season, one of my favorites of the show that I put with seasons 1-4 as being the best. In fact I think they’ve managed to breath new life into the show.

  5. If they do a younger version thing with Jor-El, like they did Zod, it’ll probably work. I just always thought they should have Terence Stamp’s head talking to Clark in the fortress before the show ends.

  6. You folks have the right mindset in approaching the show with it taking its own course with the mythos. Good for you guys. It’s refreshing to see that amongst some of the fan base that expects the same characters to be the same they way they were in the comic.
I get that actually, but still, kudos gang.

  7. idk about this. its just that season8 was just a bad season. and the season finale. what kind of season finale is that, jimmy and lex die wtf they cant be dead there apart of the superman mytholigy. and the doomsday/clark fight was only about 30 seconds long. and doomsday dies by a bomb just like that doomsday sopposed to kill clark. and then clark comes back to kill him. this whole season they were coming up with us thinking that the fight would be awsome uh. but as it comes to the end i still have to watch season 9 cuz i have all the seasons on dvd, and i cant let it end like this.

  8. Neither Lex nor Doomsday are dead, Hes just burried like in the comics for later, also Lex is going to return for atleast 1 episode, and I agree it sucks that they had budget cuts so they couldn’t make the fight longer.

  9. Lex has “died” a few times in the comics so that isn’t any problem. Most famously he came back in a younger bearded clone of himself that was aged into his normal bald self.

Jimmy didn’t die, rather he turned out to be Henry James who is the older brother to a red headed kid (probably James Bartholomew)

I do kinda wish the fight was bigger but all TV series suffer that problem. Its nice as the author says to come across people who actually like Smallville posting messages. Usually its just vocal haters on every page I see.

  10. The trailers, the new costume, Metallo, Zod, a darker Clark Kent and now Jor-El…this season seems to be shaping out quite nicely. I am very intserested to see how Jor-El will be portrayed. Personally I think he will be some sort of artificial intetligence like Braniac or he will only be visible to Clark in the fortress. I could also see this working with flashbacks.
I persoanlly thought last seaosn was the worst and I hope they just leave the whole Doomsday thing out of any future Smallville episodes.
Used to lovce the Character of Lana Lang but they have completely destroyed what she was on the show and I hope they just put the Lana thing to rest in an episode or two this season (they should’ve just left her dead at the end of season 6 when she blew up in the car).
I would also liek to see Clark’s mom make a guest appearence on the show if possible and I really want to hear more about Lex even if he is not in the show.
Looking forward to the season, but since its on Fridays now I doubt i will be watching it live

  11. The best episodes for me have all been the ‘guest’ appearances by the Flash, Aquaman et al. I’ve also came round to Green Arrow who I thought was a bit hhhmmmmmmmm at first. Which is my roundabout way of saying I’d like to see JLA members introduced in the 9th (hopefully awesome final) series.

The Doomsday thing could’ve been great but really, they could’ve used another villain for all it achieved. Unless you’re actually going to kill Supes you may as well keep Doomsday out of it.

I’m not a rabid fanboy who doesn’t want Smallville to alter the canon of the comics but they should think more carefully about what parts they use for Superman: The Early Years.

  12. I wanted Stamp but this is “younger” Jor-El than from when Krypton was destroyed so I guess it makes sense its another actor….

  13. Maybe Jor-el can hook up with Ms Kent

  14. Erica Durance brings “sexy” to the role of Lois Lane. I know many are fans of Lana but Erica Durance’s Lois Lane is the hottest thing to hit the world of Superman since,,,, since,,, well since ever!

  15. Why yes… yes she is
