Lois and Clark in SmallvilleSmallville has had us emotionally dancing over the last year.  First, we had to wait and wonder if they were headed into a 9th season.  Obviously (now), a new Smallville season is coming.

In conjunction with a 9th season given a green light, it’s been assumed that Tom Welling renewed his contract for that season, although it hasn’t been officially announced.

Unsubstantiated (someone said it, but provided no source or link) rumors say Welling signed a multi-year contract, but I can’t find anything to back that up.  Better yet, let me take it one step further:  We are presuming that Welling renewed his contract!  Didn’t think of that one, did ya?

We’ve not seen any official announcement on a contract renewal between The CW and Welling, have we?  The big question is: If for some wild and odd reason he didn’t renew, would the show go into a 9th season and how?

In a December ’08 TV Guide issue, they wrote that while the studio was pondering if there was going to be a 9th season, the producers were getting ready to pitch a spin-off starring Phil Morris, who plays Martian Manhunter.  I wonder if they are still keeping that in the works?

But enough of messing with your head.  The newest thing I have my fingers on is that we have a new scenario to ponder and we have a new guessing game for the Screen Rant readers to play.

The new game is what two characters in Smallville are going to die.  They’ve been coined as pivotal characters and their deaths won’t be the kind where they keep coming back like we see in other shows.  In Smallville, death is the end.  That’s refreshing… and nerve wracking.

Additionally, the producers of the show, who have been developing a rather nice season so far, do have a few twists in store for us for their 9th season of Smallville on The CW.

Future Look at This Week’s Episode:

In the upcoming episode that my lead-in picture is from, we’ve got a desperate Linda Lake (Tori Spelling) trying to blackmail Clark into giving her a scoop on the mystery hero of Metropolis.  She needs a boost to her career.  Lake thinks she can blackmail Clark because she knows his secret.  Clark refuses to let himself be blackmailed and does something else…  well, you’ll see on March 12th – I can’t give everything away.  Then where would be the fun and suspense of watching?  But I gotta say, I hope it’s some sort of dream episode ’cause I don’t like where this episode goes if it’s not.

A gift for the fans:

No, that’s not Superdog Tom is walking!  This is a candid image I found of Tom Welling out in public out on the net.  Thought you’d like the eye candy.  The dog is cool!

  1. My favorite actor is also hot Tom Welling. He has been my heart throb for five years now and they better make sure he comes back as Superman!

  2. Oh no you don’t!!! If Chloe is killed off I will not be happy. If someone has to go let iit be Tom Welling. There are enough hot guys on television for all the gals to gaxe at. We need more girls and we can not afford to kill off the ones we already have, especially if they are as sexy as Chloe. DO NOT KILL OF CHLOE!!! DO NOT KILL OFA CHLOE!!! DO NOT KILL OF CHLOE!!!

  3. Why do we ahve ot kill of anyone? I think that all the characters, Clark, Lana, Chloe Allison Davis, all of them bring something unique and entertaining to the show. Smallville would never be the same if we killed of even one of them. My personal favorite for the record is the classic Lois. I have watched not just htis version of Superman but earlier ones as well and Lois is always the sweetest, most genuine of the girls.

  4. @jim

    Two words: Drama & Ratings.

    Vic

  5. If Chloe does die, they’ll probably pull off some twist where her clone dies and the real one goes to 31st Century secretly to be with the Legion, particularly Brainiac 5 in a similar way they did Lana back in seasons 6-7.

  6. Davis will get killed off so it will just be doomsday and not davis transforming into doomsday and i hope they don’t kill off Chloe

  7. Lana, Pete, Lex, Lois, Jimmy, Doomsday, and Oliver all survive the events depicted in Smallville.

    That leaves Kara and Chloe.

The Chloe character was specifically created by the show producers so they would have someone to kill off.

Kara and Chloe are goners… sorry.

Look for Clark/Kal-El to die, too.

    Everybody knows Doomsday kills him.

  8. It makes sense what everyone is thinking, but to truly be able to predict the outcome of today’s mystery, we need to be in the heads of the exec producers.

It’s a reimagining of the mythos. Despite the logic we’re all using, that opens up doors to do whatever they want… albeit, I’d think they should be conservative on the switching up of things, but still, it’s their clean slate board they’re working with.

To me, Chloe has always been the extra character – so that would not surprise me…

And I can’t help but think that Doomsday gets put down, no matter what visage he’s carrying, human or bony skullcap!

  9. Actually the producers can’t just do whatever they want.

They do not own most of these characters.

    Warner Brothers does.

That means any major plot development (deaths) have to be approved by the owners of the trademarked characters.

  10. I know they have restrictions.. that’s for sure… albeit, why no suit and such up until now, at least.

  11. Get rid of that useless Erica Durance. She can’t act and if she does try to act, she acts with her fake boobs. I get so sick of watching her botoxed face trying to emit an emotion. If Smallville producers are smart, they should kill off Lois and let Clark be a man

  12. Why not kill off Lois. She doesn’t add anything to the show and Durance can’t act and the only acting that she does is with her fake boobs. She is a joke!

  13. I think Lois and either Tess/Davis is going to die. Lois is not safe just becuase of mythos. The head of DC came out last week and said that Smallville is it’s own continuity and is considered an Elseworld. The spoiler was that one of the people “qualifies” as a vet, and the other “not so much”. Lois has been there since S4, so that qualifies her as a vet. Chloe has been there since day 1, and that means she IS a vet. I would hate it if they kill off Chloe. She is the best female character on the show.

  14. ****** SPOILER ALERT ******* SPOILER ALERT ****

If you haven’t seen last night’s episode, please read no further.

Well, if you go by last night’s episode, Chloe is about to see what Doomsday can do. I almost turned the episode off when Clark decided to let the world know who he really was. I thought it was stupid for the writers to do this but I decided to keep watching hoping it got better, and it did. At first, Clark was seen as a hero, the Red-Blue Blur that saves people, until Lake tells the world that he is actually a part of an alien invasion force that Lex tried to stop until Clark killed him. So now Clark was seen as a villain and not only that, Davis knows Clark is the Kryptonian he was made to kill. Clark decides to use the Legion’s ring to go back in time but before Chloe could tell him Davis was actually Doomsday. Back in the past, 2 days, Clark defeats Lake with electricity. Lake has asked for Davis, while she is bound in a hospital, so that he could release her. Instead, Davis kills her. While talking to Chloe, Davis turns into Doomsday and while Chloe tries to escape in her car, Doomsday arrives. So it looks like Chloe will be toast.

The preview for next Thursday looks like Clark is about to fly. Clark and Lois are on a plane and the plane is about to crash. Of course Clark wouldn’t be damaged but Lois would, so he grabs her and stands by the hole where the door used to be. Looks like he’s about to fly. It’s about frakking time!!!!

  15. John: Side note of Appreciation:
Thank you for letting us know about the spoilers…. I was able to dodge it because, yes, I haven’t seen it yet.

    THANK YOU for caring SIR!

  16. @Bruce
No problem, bro. We are all Brothers of the Celluloid, and have to stick together. Hmmm, sounds like a new church. Donations???!!! :-)

  17. Regarding Smallville being an “Elseworlds” re-imagining:

Sorry… the head of DC doesn’t own Superman either.

The character is owned lock, stock, and barrel by Warner Brothers.

Comic books doesn’t even account for 10% of what the Superman trademark brings in.

They’ll never kill off any classic Superman characters.

    That leaves Chloe and Kara.

  18. Regarding the “Elseworld” comment, what was said is that Smallville could do its own thing “within reason” and killing off a character like Lois Lane who’s been in the myth as long as Superman ain’t happening. The only way they could kill her in the Superman movie is if they brought her back to life, which Superman did.

I’m guessing Chloe is the veteran character who gets killed off and Davis gets killed off, but “with a twist” in that his Doomsday persona lives on.

As for Erica not being a good actress, her performance was easily the best of all in Infamous. Truly stellar. I realize you’re likely bitter Chloe or Lana fans, but that’s no reason to take potshots at a gifted actress.

  19. erica durance is an excellant actress, those who attack her on her are jelous…she is amazing, and i hate when she isnt in an episode! these are charaters hate the character….as for the real people who play them do you even know them to judge if you like them or not?

  20. the people to die are definitely chloe and davis (not doomsday). And for the record, one of the person dying is a MALE. The other…well we don’t know. For the people who criticize people’s acting well…F**k YOU! Lois Stays!

  21. @klemy:

No no. This is a civil place where we are free to speak our opinions. That wasn’t very nice to say. We all have our ideas and no one wants to be told that because they voiced their opinions.

And that is NOT an OPINION. That’s how it is here.

On the flip side, thanks for coming by and chiming in…

  22. @klemy

    Totally unnecessary dude.

    Vic

  23. It makes sense that the two people that die in the season finale are Doomsday & “The Red/Blue Blur”. In the comics, Doomsday & Superman both die… and come back later. So, The Red/Blue Blur could die and the first few episodes of next season could have Kara filling in, until Clark is brought back, and finally becomes Superman. So, from a certain point of view, “The Red/Blue Blur” would stay dead.

  24. They can’t kill Chloe. I’m supposed to marry her after she finalizes her divorce from Jimmy.

But really, my money’s on Davis meeting his maker.

  25. Ok, I’m going to say this is a ***** SPOILER ALERT ***** because I don’t know how many people saw the last episode.

WHAT THE FRAK IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE???!!! I finally think he’s going to fly and instead, he just jumps out of the plane! It wasn’t the worst episode but it wasn’t the best either. I do like the fact that Tess hasn’t turned into the good-little-girl that was hinted at. Boy, if she was wrong about Clark, she would have been toast.

Looks like it’s over between Chloe and Jimmy. And it appears like we’re getting closer and closer to the big showdown, but they will probably drag that out for next season.

  26. @Kahless

They know that one of the BIGGEST things fans of the show are dying to see is for him to finally freakin’ fly – so they’re going to tease the audience with that carrot for as long as they can get away with it.

    Vic

  27. If “Smallville” follows the basic story plot of the “Doomsday” saga, then Clark would have to die, only to be reborn in the season 9 opener. As for victim # 2, it depends on whose contract wasn’t renewed.

  28. I will be shocked if Chloe is not the one that dies, as much as it hurts me to think about it. There have been several hints in that direction although I know that writers try to trick us sometimes. (Maybe Allison doesn’t want to come back). Anyway, Chloe hasn’t been the happy free-spirit the fans have loved- she’s been thru so much because of her relationship with Clark. She and Jimmy have suffered because of it. Chloe would never want it any other way, having known Clark’s secret and being a huge part of his journey to becoming Superman. But her time is unfortunately up- she has served her purpose. I applaud the creators and writers for creating the wonderful character of Chloe- Clark needed a sidekick with her smarts for digging up info and hacking skills in this day and time. I hope I’m wrong but I can’t imagine any other “veteran” actor on the show that could be the one to die in the finale.

  29. I’m Sorry to say one of the characters who will die… is a male.
