Looking forward to the upcoming alien invasion flick, Skyline? Then you may want to check out these new TV spots, images and poster for the movie, which Universal Pictures/Rogue Pictures has just released.
The plot of Skyline may not be the most original in the world – i.e., aliens invade Earth and the human population struggles to survive – but the high production values and impressive special effects on a relatively small budget have certainly grabbed the attention of sci-fi film fans.
To clue you in a bit more on what it’s all about, here is the official synopsis for Skyline:
After a late night party, a group of friends are awoken in the dead of the night by an eerie light beaming through the window. Like moths to a flame, the light source is drawing people outside before they suddenly vanish into the air. They soon discover an otherwordly force is swallowing the entire human population off the face of the earth. Now the band of survivors must fight for their lives as the world unravels around them.
From the looks of these quick new TV spots, Skyline will be one of THE event movies of the Fall 2010 movie season. Check them out below:
Now check out the new Skyline poster and images that have been released:
Skyline is directed by Colin and Greg Strause (or “the Brothers Strause” as they’re often known) who missed the mark with their last directorial effort, Aliens vs Predator: Requiem. However, their experience with visual effects in films like Avatar, Iron Man 2 and 300 (to name but a few) is certainly reassuring considering how heavily Skyline relies on CGI.
The movie gives off a strong Cloverfield vibe with a dash of District 9 and a hint of Independence Day thrown in for good measure. Are those similarities an homage intended by the directors, or simply the formulaic by-products of a specific sci-fi sub-genre (invasion drama)?
Either way, we can always hope Skyline is as good as it looks and garners the same sort of interest and status as those aforementioned movies.
