Most people must be feeling pretty jealous of the folks currently attending CinemaCon 2012, considering what they’ve been treated to in days past – including, an impressive Dark Knight Rises sizzle reel ripe with new footage and no less than ten minutes of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, screened in 3D and projected at 48 f.p.s. You can add a teaser trailer for Skyfall to the list of items inspiring envy in those not at the Con.

Sony is reportedly going to premiere the first footage from Skyfall (or, James Bond 23, if you prefer) in theaters when Men in Black III opens over Memorial Day Weekend next month. However, for those too eager to wait and find out more about Daniel Craig’s third round wearing the 007 suit, we have an early description of the Skyfall teaser – at least, the one shown at CinemaCon, that is.

Cinema Blend was quick to post an impression of the Skyfall trailer, courtesy of their steadfast contributor Eric Eisenberg. Continue on down and you can read through the footage description segment of his report.

The trailer begins with a shot of Bond (Daniel Craig) from behind looking at the city of London. Then we hear someone in a voice-over say the word “Country” and Bond saying, “England.” It seems he is playing some sort of word association game. We then hear the mystery voice say “Gun” and Bond replies “Shot” as we view a target at the end of a shooting range. We then see that 007 is in an interrogation room where he is being asked the questions and being watched by Ralph Fiennes and some other people through two-way mirrors. The man sitting in front of Bond says “Agent,” and the superspy replies “Provocateur.” As more images flash on the screen the word association game continues: “Murder” “Employment.” The music then drops out as we flash back to the interrogation room and the man running the test says. “Skyfall.” After a pause, Bond says, “Done,” and stands up from the table. Another huge montage begins and we see shots of helicopters, giant fireballs causing a mysterious silhouette, shots of the Shanghai nightlife, Bond standing over a long row of coffins draped with the flag of England, and a subway car crashing through a tunnel wall with incredible force. As the trailer comes to an end we hear Bond say, “Someone is coming to kill us. We’re going to kill them first.”

Those who have been keeping up with the featurettes and images officially-released (and leaked set photos) for Skyfall should immediately recognize the previously-glimpsed “puzzle pieces” included in the trailer. Overall, though, it sounds as though the teaser mostly continues to keep a lid on how all those elements fit together – while also doing a good job of piquing viewer’s interest to find out exactly what director Sam Mendes is cooking up.

In addition to the Skyfall footage, Sony also took advantage of CinemaCon to announce that the 24th James Bond film is tentatively being planned for a Holiday Season 2014 theatrical release. That two-year gap between 007 adventures seems positively short, following the extended four-year delay between Quantum of Solace and Skyfall due to MGM’s bankruptcy problems – but, in reality, that’s become a pretty standard time interval between installments in a blockbuster series (excluding young adult adaptations like The Twilight Saga).

Bond 24 marks the first “optional” film in Craig’s original Bond deal; meaning, the actor is not contractually obligated to reprise his turn as 007. Considering that Craig has yet to publicly disclose a desire to hang up his secret agent hat in the near future – and those rumors about him being pursed for several more Bond films – it’s reasonable to assume he’ll return. Then again, if Craig does take a pass, it wouldn’t be the first time a “sure thing” in Hollywood failed to pan out (see: Gary Ross departing the Hunger Games franchise, for a recent example).

Skyfall hits theaters (no pun) in the U.S. on November 9th, 2012.

  1. If Craig chooses not to return I want Tom Hardy as the next Bond!

    • If Daniel Craig does choose not to return I’ll humbly donate my services. I think the Bond Franchise really needs a 5’6″ skin-headed man with a small potbelly, glasses and an alluring Bristolian accent.

Y’know? Just to keep the franchise fresh. I think everyone would love it.

I say DC is great, the longer he can fill the role the better. (As long as they roll out these movies more often!)

  2. Naw… Johnny Depp.

    Just Kidding!

    ~ Stark

    No. Really. Just. Kidding.

  3. I say DC is great, the longer he can fill the role the better. (As long as they roll out these movies more often!)

      motoko, your rebuttal?

      • ??

  4. If Skyfall turns out good-great I’m all for Craig staying on board and I’ll hope he chooses to.
But if he decides to leave how hard do you think producers will push to get Michael Fassbender?
I’m not sure if he was considered before Craig because he wasn’t well known then but if not he seems like a perfect fit.

  5. question is if you read the write up it says holiday release 2014 near the begining of the article but November 9th 2012 release date towards the end. Which is it?

    • November 9th, 2012 is the release date for Skyfall (a.k.a. the 23rd James Bond movie).

The Holiday season 2014 release date is for the 24th James Bond movie.

  6. How about the guy playing Superman-reboot as 007? Henry Cavil.

    • Henry Cavil was screen tested before Craig. Sony wanted him, B. Brocolli did not, claiming he was too young.
Daniel Craig must go! He’s not right for the part.

  7. Daniel Craig is the second best Bond ever (to Sean Connery). If no more Craig as Bond, Michael Weston, ftw.

  8. I still like the idea of Idris Elba stepping in…..But then they’d need to finally make it clear that “James Bond” is just the code name for every new 007….That way you at least give some valitity to a black pearon becoming James Bond after what? 30 or so years of white James Bonds……None the less he’d be a very interesting change…..

  9. Definitely would love Michael Fassbender to become the next Bond.

  10. Yes to Fassbender if Craig turns it down and or Skyfall is dissapponting.

  11. I vote fassbender as well :)!

  12. IMO DC is the only actor around qualified to play Bond and if he leaves they should call it quits, even tho they won’t of course…

  13. Yes to Craig returning for Bond 24. And on the subject of casting, Matthew Goode is the best person to play Bond, better than Craig, or Fassbender (both great choices). Goode is exactly who the book intended, mysterious, coy, witty, classy, and badass.

  14. Yes to craig returning as Bond, but what about christopher nolan directing, so what do you guys think about nolan doing the next james bond 24

  15. I hope that Craig comes back for Bond 24 because he is by far the best one since Sean Connery but here is the negatives side to that: Craig continues to play Bond and does a great job and many fans love him as Bond, when he retires from the role the new actor playing Bond may just try to play Daniel Craig’s Bond thats what happened to Sean Connery, when he stopped playing Bond all of the other actors who played him i felt just tried to play Sean Connery and i always find it more interesting when an actor who replaces someone do something different with the character like Andrew Garfield and Spider-Man or the new star trek cast they weren’t pretending to be someone they weren’t and that made it all the more interesting. Maybe this won’t happen though maybe when Craig leaves the new actor may redefine Bond just as Craig did. Oh and Nolan would be an awesome Bond director.

  16. Dear SIR OR Madam; in response to the views of the people writing in as
who is the the best actor to play BOND, previous or present, i think that
Daniel Craig was top notch in Casino Royale as 007 but the sequel Quantum
of Solace was a travesty. It was the shortest bond movie in length of the
previous 22 flicks and the villian was a joke compared to Auric Goldfinger
or any of the past bad guys. I truly hope that DC redeems himself in
Skyfall. I think that he is an excellent actor compared to some past 007′s .If anyone has read the Ian Fleming novels about this secret agent,
he envisioned his Bond on screen to resemble the great 40′s piano player
Hoagy Carmicheal, that’s how Sean Connery became the ist 007. In closing,
ON HER MAJESTY,S SECRET SERVICE was one of the best in the series but with
the wrong guy as 007. Let’s hope Skyfall makes us forget about QOS.

  17. I personally love daniel craig and i would be very upset if he didnt do another couple of bond movies. However, i do realise he is getting fairly old, but he is by far the best James Bond. I dont think anyone could replace him.

  18. Ths is the best preview ever hope the movie is worth it

  19. DC should be there in next film.

  20. i say keep daniel craig because he is good after he finish bring back Sean Connery because he not that old or my fave Pierce Brosnan becaus he did not stay long as 007 or my aussie Sam Worthington he be goodto do it to so take a pick and do bond good

  21. Just a personal opinion here, um why doesn’t Daniel Craig have cool gadgets? That is the biggest part of being a super cool spy, he would be a much more popular Bond if he had some gadgets to get himself out of sticky situations.

  22. daniel craig is a badass actor he needs to stay as bond just like liam neeson was a great actor in that movie “the grey”

  23. Daniel Craig best Bond ever!
Next Bond most definitely TOM HARDY.
