It’s the James Bond movie franchise’s 50th birthday – and to mark the occasion, the 23rd installment in the series, Skyfall, will arrive in theaters before the year is out. Daniel Craig is back for his third tour as 007, working this time with director Sam Mendes (after Martin Campbell on Casino Royale and Marc Forster on Quantum of Solace).

Sony/MGM has released an official teaser poster for Skyfall online. The studios will unleash the film’s teaser trailer online at the beginning of next week (look for it on Screen Rant),¬†before most likely attaching it to prints of Men in Black III – which opens in theaters around the U.S. next Friday.

Skyfall unites a fantastic cast of European thespians, alongside Craig and franchise staple Judi Dench – including, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, Naomie Harris, and Helen McCrory – plus Oscar-winner Javier Bardem as the film’s villain. In terms of storyline, the movie’s machinations are being largely kept under wraps, save for a logline revealing that Bond must deal with a threat from M’s past – one that not only threatens his boss, but the very future of MI6.

Check out Craig as Bond – frozen in a motionless¬†variation on the series’ iconic “gun barrel sequence” – in the Skyfall¬†teaser poster:

Those who attended the 2012 CinemaCon got an early look at the Skyfall teaser trailer (or something virtually identical). Based on descriptions of said footage, it offers a tantalizingly, if brief, look at several of the film’s big set pieces – including, an explosive confrontation in the London subway – and alludes to the same idea suggested by the official logline: that Bond’s character and personal values will be put to the test, as he must determine where his true loyalties lie.

Between that intriguing premise and the great cast, Skyfall has a lot going for it. So long as Mendes proves as adept at directing action sequences as he has with creating portraits of human drama (American Beauty, Road to Perdition), this should join the ranks of the good Bond movies.

Skyfall will open in most European countries by either the last week of October or the first week of November, before hitting theaters around the U.S. on November 9th, 2012.

  1. What’s Golem doing in a suit>

  2. Film looks slick :)

  3. Oh No! Another generic movie website. I haven;t seen that before. Must be something to do with money. Shiyte.

  4. Ok I see Mr Agent Smith. You are the type of person who hates on people hardwork. We have seen your type before and it is definitely not a problem. we are used to your type. You guys do not usually have Nothing inspirational to say. I hope in the future you learn to appreciate people effort for their hardwork. :)

  5. I like the poster. Screams Bond, even if it had not included the 007 logo, the gun barrel is a James Bond signature. Looking forward to this film, but I sure hope it’s better than Quantum of Solace.

    • Geez, I hope so, that movie was pretty crappy… Hopefully this is more Casino Royale and less Quantum of Solace…

    • Not to diss QoS, but I’ll bet the “Skyfall” TRAILER all by itself will be better than Quantum.

In fact, Skyfall has sooo many excellent things going for it, I’m getting the impression it will rival Casino Royale.

Watching this flick on an IMAX screen will be radical.

      • I think it’ll more than surpass Casino Royale. Man, I really like this poster and I get it, but it’s a just a liiiittle underwhelming. The trailer better melt my eyes next week…

    • You make a good point, in fact, take the 007 logo and the Skyfall bit off, it is still a classic teaser poster.

  6. Is it just me, or does it seem they slapped this together without much thought? Personally, I think they could have removed/blended the road/carpet element to better effect. Almost looks like they just dragged the opacity down and thought ‘that’ll do pig, that’ll do’.

    • I like the fact that he’s walking into the gunbarrel, like he’s taking on danger or himself or new territory or… something, like I keep looking at it and thinking it’s supposed to be saying something important, what is it?

But, yeah… it also just looks like real average fan art. Anybody could have made that. I’d like to think they’re keeping it vague and yet iconic because there’s so many secrets and surprises they’re hiding, but… oy vey. The next poster and the trailer better step it up.

      • I think the whole point was to make it iconic.

And like you say, in the grand scheme of things it does look like average fan art, but that’s because in recent years fan art work has become so good, that much of it is better and more inventive than what the studios churn out.

It’s a Bond poster, it should have Bond looking cool. So in that respect, job well done.

  7. As much as I have dissed Craig (perhaps unfairly at times) and QOS is my least favourite Bond, so far, everything I have seen about Skyfall looks fantastic.

This poster is very, classic I think it the right word, it screams Bond to me. I hope the trailer is similar, new yet classic, with some proper Bond theme. This poster also gives me hope that Skyfall will start with the traditional gun barrel opening.
Casino Royale was great but is Skyfall going to be the first of Craig’s Bonds to become a true classic in the series?

    • YES! In answer to your question, I really do believe that Skyfall has everything going for it to be THE classic Craig-Bond film.
It just feels right. I’ve seen all the interviews and everyone involved seems to be having the times of their lives. It’s like , they KNOW.

The poster is nothing flashy. I think the most important thing was to portray Craig with that classic inner gun barrel.

I’m now wondering who will sing the theme song. From what I’ve gathered both Adele and Noel from Oasis are in the running. I would give Adele the main theme song, for sure. It’s been too long since we have had a proper, classic Bond song.

And I say the gun barrel sequence will actually be in the trailer. The question will be: will it open up the trailer or close it? We will find out Monday.

      • Yeah, I’d heard the same: Noel Gallagher could do a good Bond theme, but as they seem to be going down the classic style route so far, they will likely go with Adele, someone who can really belt out a tune like Shirley Bassey did all those years ago.

I thought Chris Cornell’s You Know My Name was the best Bond theme since the 80s.

  8. I am excited to see the trailer next week on 007.com
