  7. I have absolutely no idea why many people will see Twilight over Skyfall.
Clearly something is wrong with them.

  8. Maybe after Vesper, he doesnt give a damn about feelings…

  9. I think it will be an interesting to see Mark Wahlberg acting in TF4, it will good to see someone who can bring some physicality to what basically amount an action movie, while some of his movies have been hit or miss I feel like they aren’t going to be asking him to do Shakespeare in the park but they are going to let him do his shtick, which in Transformers would actually work and I think Mark Wahlberg’s Shaft movie just went into pre-production just based on Kofi Outlaws assertion that it could work…

Disney took over Marvel and while arguably the MCU had some hit and misses along the way to Avengers it ultimately worked out because they got the right guy(Joss Whedon) working on the right movie(Avengers) and generally speaking Disney has the ability to get the right people to work on their big properties, the hit and misses of some of these Hasbro properties have not been handle well and if someone can take it over and stay true to what those properties are about, the only thing I think to be “worried” about IMO is that they might not make a lot of original material that they might flood the market with too much too fast because while we all love Marvel, Hasbro, and Star Wars stuff, their is such a thing of too much of a good thing…

  10. 1. Breaking Dawn Part 2

  11. It definitely was Marvel who published the Transformers and GI Joe comic series. The beginning of the Transformers series was actually really good (with Shockwave and the Dinobots) I remember some four-issue mini-series Marvel did that had Spiderman cross-over into Transformers and had GI Joe vs Transformers and the like. None of those were any good.

  12. I actually overhear a conversation today that someone said they didnt want to see “Skyfall” because they don’t like sequels. So instead they were headed to see “Taken 2″

    • Haha… that’s one where you’ve got to bite your lip.

      • Or punch a face. :D

  14. I’m going to defend Daniel Craig’s Bond in this movie:

I don’t think “Skyfall” takes place anytime soon after “Casino Royale” and “Quantum of Solace”. At the end of that storyline, James Bond is back to his normal state and is ready to get back to work. I imagine at that point, this Bond went on every adventure from “Dr. No” to “Die Another Day” because he is obviously FAR more careful and experienced than he was in the Casino/Quantum story where he was reckless, but grew into the traditional state which we all know (Hell, Bond slept with Solange just to get to Dimitrios. How is that any different than the same situation in “Skyfall”?).

Even when you think about it, from “Dr. No” to “Die Another Day”, James Bond pretty much seems invincible and unstoppable. “Skyfall” is the dramatic change where problems are no longer solved with gadgets and over-the-top weak minded villains. The moment that bullet hits him, things started to get harder. He has to work his way back up to his old state and it’s hard because Bond has aged. Plus, I don’t think getting shot and nearly drowning causing him to fail a mission he probably had under control would put him in a real cheery mood for a very long time (espescially when your own boss took a chance, even if it was the right thing to do).

This really is the darkest story in James Bond, but Ian Fleming didn’t write him as a real humorus guy. He’s supposed to be very cold-hearted, dark, brutal, and ruthless. Just with enough class to keep it all under control.

“Skyfall” really is the best James Bond movie in my opinion because they made a modern version of a stpry that most likely would’ve been accepted by Ian Fleming and the Bond film legacy itself

    • *story

    • Yah, that’s why I was more positive on this film’s ambition than some of the podcast guys. I think it tried to get at something more – even if it touches on ideas that have been covered in other installments.

Personally, I think the main problem is how “staged” everything is – a point that Kofi brought up (and I think is the reason why the shower scene felt so weird to me). The character story was actually really interesting but I’m not sure if all of the scenes around it formed as cohesive and satisfying of a film as it could have been.

That said, I’m glad you enjoyed it – I had a lot of fun too.

      • I agree. I feel like there was also a lot of pressure put on Sam Mendes, being his first and last Bond movie that just happens to be releasing during the 50th Anniversary of 007 in cinema. Keeping that in mind, he did a fantastic job with everything he was given, pressure and all.

“Skyfall” isn’t perfect as a movie itself, far from it actually. But I do believe it ties for one of the best in the franchise with, say, “Casino Royale” or “Goldfinger”.

    • I’d have to agree. Craig’s Bond has always been pretty ruthless even in Casino Royale so the way he acted in Skyfall is nothing new. If anything he seemed to soften from the last two films. In Casino Royale He killed a bomb maker in cold blood at an embassey in the beginning . When Vesper died , he called her a pretty harsh term. In QOS he was killing people left and right without getting information. He’s pretty much shown little emotion for his women through all three films. That’s why i’m a bit surprised that only now, after 3 films, people have started to notice that his Bond can be pretty cold hearted and cruel.

I can see the flaws in Skyfall but overall I think its one of the best Bond films ever made.

  15. Great podcast. I’m all for Transformers 4 and cautiously optimistic for Man of Steel. I will tune in next week even though I hate Twilight and believe Blade just needs to off them all.

You are being too harsh on Skyfall. It’s a very satisfying and entertaining movie even though it failed on some aspects. On the other hand Quantum of Solace was boring and impossible to watch. At least, the villain in Skyfall was scary and fun to watch where in Quantum, he was just pathetic.

Sidenote: the sound quality of the podcast is just bad. I’m not trying to be an asshole here. I understand that recording via Skype isn’t always perfect but people breathing heavily into the microphone or eating/drinking when others are talking is just distracting and annoying.

That’s my only complaint. The content is great and that’s what’s most important.

    • “Quantum of Solace” is just a huge adjustment in what fans were used to seeing. It’s average; not the best, not the worst, not iconic, not memorable. The thing that really holds it together is the emotional struggle of James Bond denying his thirst for vengeance, but ultimately learning that revenge isn’t going to change anything in the end. The maturity of a reckless 007

    • Adel – I think we’ve mostly curtailed the eating/drinking thing. When it comes to audio quality, we are trying our best. As you mentioned, unlike a lot of podcasts, we’re not in the same room and, with Skype, we’re connecting to people all over North America. So, sometimes, there are hiccups. I warned everyone this week we were having problems – the only other option would have been to kick Rob off entirely for this episode.

That said, I do hear you and we’ll continue to try and tighten up the sound quality. I think “bad” is a bit harsh (given some of the podcasts I listen to) but, nevertheless, the last thing we want is for people to be distracted by avoidable noise.

      I do appreciate the feedback.

      • I admit, it’s not “bad” but there is room for amelioration. But like I said, it won’t stop me from listening to the podcast. The content and you guys are what makes it so good, the sound is just a plus.

Also, I like when there’s a reviewer we never heard before on the podcast. It’s good to hear different voices once in a while.

Anyway, I love the podcast. Are you planning on doing a special episode for The Hobbit like you did for The Avenger and TDKR?

  17. Another good podcast.

As for the audio problems….. besides Rob sounding jinky, the SR Theme bumper music was way louder than the vocal. I had to ride the volume to compensate.

Also, personally, I’ve never watched a Transformers movie. I just tune out when the SR Team analyzes the hell out of the toy movie franchise. I guess i just don’t get it.

And thanks for the heads up on Skyfall. I’ve seen nearly every Bond film. My favorite is From Russia With Love, which also features a “blond” villain. Kind of a cliché for Bond films. Another Bondian cliché….. the first girl that Bond has sex with usually gets killed. The second girl lives to the end scene to make-out with JB.

How was the music? There is usually a big name music star to sing a special theme written for each Bond film. Since you didn’t mention the movie’s theme it must not have been memorable.

    • Adele was the singer. It was memorable because Bond’s ass was dragged deeper under water throughout it.

      • Ha!

Good for Adele. Bond’s doom set to music.

This Bond has two more to go? Three? The box office looks ok for Skyfall, so it’ll go the distance with Craig.

        And then what?

        Idris Elba?

        • Daniel Craig is officially doing 2 more Bond movies. He wants to do more than 5 altogether, but he can’t make any promises because he knows age plays a part and Craig is pushing 50 soon.

Idris Elba might take on Bond if Craig only does 2 more, but I imagine there will be a 2 year gap from here on out and if Craig does 3 or 4 more, Elba will nearly be 50 by then

  18. Didnt you say youd reveal one of the prizes this week?

    • I did. When we didn’t do a proper segment, I skipped it. I’ll reveal it next week!

Oh, and I didn’t realize we had a voicemail from you until yesterday. We’ll still try and address that one – even if we are late to the game.

      • yay.

  20. Great podcast again guys. This is my favorite film/comic book related podcast by far.

As far as Disney goes. Honestly kofi brought up a fantastic point and that is they make good films. I’m 23 and I enjoyed tangled and wreck it Ralph along with most of the Pixar films. They are doing right by marvel and so far from what I hear Star Wars. If they want a shot at hasbro properties then I say go ahead. I want a great gi joe film and dinobots. Cuz i just do not think gi joe is gonna he all that great.

And Ben and vactor I am with you in the clone wars. Great series. Only two seasons in but I’m loving it so far.

    • Glad you’re enjoying the Clone Wars – I really love that show. It’ll be interesting to see what happens to it now that Disney owns Lucasfilm…

      • yeah the clone wars is great. i didnt start actualy till you guys suggested it but i see it leaving cartoon network and moving to disney xd or something.

    • Thanks for the kind words!

  21. I totally agree with what Kofi said about Disney buying up everything. On what basis does anyone have to say this is a bad thing? The only terrible thing that Disney has been pushing recently is Hannah Montana and the rest of the teen pop star/tv actors. And even that is over the hill and on its way out. So as long as Disney doesnt make the transformers sing and go on tour, we should be fine.

Avengers was awesome, one of the best superhero movies of all time. Thank you Disney

    • “I totally agree with what Kofi said about Disney buying up everything. On what basis does anyone have to say this is a bad thing?”

      One word: monopoly.

      • Monopoly is another one of those buzz words that people like to freak out about – but apparently only in select cases.

Nobody is REALLY watchdogging the monopoly issue. There are so many monopolies in America it’s not even funny. To automatically label Disney as bad for making business moves to secure the young male demogrphic is a knee-jerk reaction not based on any real factual evidence.

I’ve watched my 6-year-old niece grow up on the Disney girl Empire – From Tangled to iCarly to Hanna Montana – and it didn’t ruin her soul anymore than it did girls of my generation. My nephew (age 3.5) is now a Marvel fanatic thanks to Disney and Avengers – I’m not the least bit mad about it. We have fun talking superheroes and such; he’s probably more well-behaved now that he looks to Cap and Spider-Man as inspiration as he was before that.

Look, I’m not saying Disney SHOULD own everything. I’m just saying it’s not inherently a bad thing, just because. Hasbro and Marvel made TERRIBLE business decsisions along the way, without Disney’s influence. If The Mouse House controls all this stuff and puts out quality entertainment that makes kids love Marvel Characters, G.I. Joe and Transformers, I’m not going to complain.

        • Kofi’s right about nobody paying attention to the monopoly issue. Most television shows come from Warner Bros, NBC and Fox. Of the 80 new and returning programs, Warner Bros made 38 of them. :-O

        • Of course you are right. It would only be a monopoly if they really would own everything, and that would be a bad thing, because you don’t really have to try hard anymore when you don’t have any competition, which would affect quality in the long run. And that would undoubtedly be bad, which I tried to point out somewhat monosyllabic.

But we are still a long way off from that situation and it’s very unlikely that we will ever get there. There will always be other studios that aim for the same audience segment, so no problem there. ;)

      • Yes, Hasbro owns the ‘Monopoly’ board game that Disney is rumored to be after ;)
