With anything Edgar Wright touches, fans expect that his friends and usual stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost to be involved in some capacity or at the very least to be rumored so. With that in mind, it’s entirely unsurprising that Pegg has been listed as a “candidate” for the title role in Wright’s Marvel movie for years now.

But will Edgar Wright ever make Ant-Man for Marvel Studios? The partly comedic spy comic book movie about the Avenger who could change his size has seemingly been in development forever. We know that Ant-Man will not be included in The Avengers roster and instead will get his own solo movie to fully expand on his origins before jumping on the (already large) team of superheroes for Avengers sequels down the road.

As Marvel sets release dates for its major upcoming films, which include Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger next summer, The Avengers the summer after and Iron Man 3 the summer after that, we still have no idea when Wright will put Ant-Man next on his list of movies to make.

That’s not stopping the fandom from posing questions to Wright or Pegg at every opportunity and in a recent interview with View London, Pegg was asked this very question: Would he play Ant-man if asked?

“No. (laughs) Ed’s not going to ask me to play Ant-Man! He wants some young – he’ll want, like Chris Evans to do it or one of his new American buddies.”

Hey Simon, Evans is Captain America.

“Oh, that’s true. Yeah, that’s true. I don’t know – I don’t think I’d want to play Ant-Man. I think it would be more fun to play a villain in that thing. I’d like to play a villain. But no, they’re going to want some good-looking young American. That’s a Marvel movie – funny-looking British actors don’t play a big part in that unless they’re bad.”

The latest rumors for who could play Ant-Man involve Adrien Brody, but when we chatted with him in New York for Comic-Con a few weeks back he wasn’t too sure on where discussions between his people and Marvel’s were at or if they were going anywhere at all.

As for a villain, can you buy Pegg as the antagonist in a Marvel superhero movie?

  1. NATHAN FILLION for ANT-MAN!!

    • Agreed

    • Just out of curiosity.. which comic book characters is Nathan Fillion NOT perfect to play?

      • Tigra, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Ms. Marvel, Veronica and Betty, Granny Goodness, (wait scratch that last one), Gamora, Harley Quinn, do I need to go on?

        :D

  2. Brandon Routh for Ant-Man!

    • I was thinking exactly that!

  3. Simon Pegg has played a bad guy on Doctor Who. What I can’t believe is that Ant-Man is being made into a movie.

    • Dude I think your mistaking John Simm for Simon Pegg because Simon Pegg was never in Doctor Who, whereas John Simm portrayed The Master in Doctor Who.

      • Actually, Simon Pegg was a villain in Doctor Who. It was back during series 1 of the revival with the 9th Doctor. It was some episode where they went to some station controlled by some weird alien thing. Pegg was the director guy in charge of everything. That one sticks out to me because of everyone having holes in their head they could absorb info from and Pegg actually being a villain. I wonder if it’s sad that I actually remember all that.

        • Ah got it. It was an episode called “The Long Game”.

        • Not sad at all Sean. It was a Great episode. Simon Pegg’s name in the credits is reason enough for me to see something. Having him in Doctor Who (one of my all time favorites) is icing on the cake.

      • Simon Pegg was a villain in Christopher Eccleston’s series of Doctor Who, he was second in command of Satellite 5 before the might Jagrafess was destroyed…

  4. There is only one Ant-Man as far as I’m concerned and that is Hank Pym: scientist and Avenger.

As much as I’m enjoying Eric O’Grady as the (third) Ant-Man in “Secret Avengers”, I much rather prefer the original Ant-Man.

I really don’t think this movie if it ever gets made should be a comedic spy film.

    • @Magnetic Eye, I totally agree with you. Iron Man was light, serious and had a good balance of comical moments too. That’s the way that Ant-Man should be,I’m starting to have no faith in this movie or it ever coming to fruition especially after the poor performance of Scott Pilgrim v.s The World. Once Edgar Wright started talking all this crazy stuff about two Ant-Mans and it being a comedy,Marvel should’ve started looking for someone else to do this movie.

      • wasnt most reviews positive on scott pilgrim?

  5. Pegg as Ultron?

    I’m in.

    • I don’t expect him to be in Ant-Man other than having a cameo like Stan Lee.

      • pym creating ultron at the end of ant man? then going into the avengers would make more sense but pegg as ultron? they need to do ultron like they do the iron man suit

  6. Simon Baker for Ant-Man if Fillion can’t do it!

    • I agree. Also Aaron Eckhart or Patrick Wilson for Hank Pym.

  7. ^^ As Pym*

  8. I love Simon Pegg. He cracks me up. I do agree with the rest of you on the fact that Nathan Fillon should play Ant-man. That being said, I could really care less about this movie. I think they should mix him in with the Shield movie and it would be great. I could care less about that movie too but together it would be great.
I dunno who Peg should play. I wouldn’t mind seeing him as the Leader but we already have one of those. I could see him playing Gargoyle. He could add the comic relief to the next Hulk movie. I just hope they don’t have him playing a dumb character and wasting his talents.

  9. He could play Klaw….

    • YOU WILL BE EGG HEAD

  10. He’ll be Egghead.

  11. “As for a villain, can you buy Pegg as the antagonist in a Marvel superhero movie?”

AbsoFrikkinLutely!!!! He’d be awesome as a villain; either in this or James Bond. Comedians can be downright creepy when they go to the dark side! Look at Robin Williams!
