Silent Hill: Revelation 3D hopes to recapture the hellish atmosphere and dread that its predecessor inspired. While the original isn't exactly a masterpiece, it was a successful enough adaptation of the popular horror/mystery video game series to warrant a sequel - not to mention, it left plenty of a viewers with at least one or two twisted images or sequences burned into their brain.

Today's clip from Silent Hill: Revelation shows that writer/director Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) is definitely going for a nightmarish aesthetic all his own. Check out the aptly-named "Nurses" sequence above.

The clip of course recalls the "Nurses" scene from Silent Hill 1, which saw star Radha Mitchell (who is returning for this sequel) having to crawl through a gauntlet of short-skirted, bandaged-faced nightmare dames, armed with rusty scalpels. If you're not getting the picture, such is the type of sequence that makes the Silent Hill games (and subsequently, the movies) so effective in their goosebump-inducement - even if the overarching narrative is not quite effective.

Game of Thrones star Sean Bean will also be back for the sequel film, which follows a new young protagonist (Adelaide Clemens), whose past leads her to the accursed town, and all the horrible truths that wait therein. Check out the official synopsis below:

In SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D, Heather Mason (Clemens) and her father (Bean) have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. On the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her forever.

Now a new image, which shows things getting hot for Clemens' character, Heather Mason:

Silent Hill Revelation Heather Mason in the fire

Personally, I was a big fan of the original Silent Hill. Yes, the story was a convoluted mess, but there was something about the way director Christophe Gans (Brotherhood of the Wolf) captured that dark and twisted version of hell (inspired by the games) that just made the film memorable - not something you hear often about a horror film, these days. Whether this sequel will be able to achieve at least that much ( rather than being just a cash-grab b-movie sequel with a  3D gimmick) remains to be seen; however, this first clip certainly makes it seem like the latter is more likely than the former.

Silent Hill: Revelation 3D will be in theaters on October 26, 2012.
