Shyamalan’s The Village: Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes

This could be nothing, but we know how things have to be blown out of proportion in order to be classified as “news,” so…

It seems that M. Night Shyamalan has gathered together the main actors from his upcoming film The Village for some re-shoots. Of course this could be minor stuff, but the buzz is that due to the fact that the ending to the movie was leaked months ago, he wants to change it.

I really hate to give any kind of credence to the fact that Harry Knowles (of aintitcoolnews.com) has pull in Hollywood, but he did lambast the ending to Shyamalan’s film a while back. Could it be that the director re-thought the ending after hearing of Knowles’ reaction? Or is it just a case of Shyamalan wanting his trademark surprise twist ending to remain a surprise for opening weekend?

    It would take Shyamalan quite a bit of reshooting to surpass the all-time king of reshoots, Stanley Kubrick. Besides, do we even know for sure that The Village will have a surprise twist ending? Shyamalan’s last film, Signs, didn’t. The reshoot could just be to correct an inaccuracy or inconsistency.

    Even if Harry Knowles has “pull” in Hollywood (which I’m not quite ready to concede he does), I wouldn’t want my legacy to be one of forcing filmmakers to keep reshooting scenes because I couldn’t keep my mouth shut. I wonder why the studios don’t sue people who leak confidential information like that. They had no problem taking action against the people who pirated The Hulk and the Oscar screeners. Not the same thing, I know, but still…

    It wasn’t Knowles who outed the ending, it was his lady-in-waiting, Drew McWeeny AKA “Moriarty.” Hopefully this will blow whatever minor amounts of street cred McWeeny had with Hollywood, and seal his fate as a permanent member of the Former Video Store Rental Clerks Union. McWeeny should be held accountable somehow for this travesty. An alternative would be to legalize nightstick sodomization….
