Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo are two of the biggest films being released during the 2011 Holiday season, and as late summer begins to transition into fall, the studios behind both films (Warner Bros. and Columbia Pictures, respectively) are setting their marketing campaigns in motion.

Today brings new images from both Sherlock Holmes 2 and Dragon Tattoo, featuring the films’ all-star casts, which include Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Daniel Craig, original girl with the dragon tattoo, Noomi Rapace, and new girl with the dragon tatoo, Rooney Mara.

First, let’s take a look at the new images for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. In this sequel to director Guy Ritchie’s successful blockbuster re-imagining of Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective, we find Holmes (Downey) and Dr. Watson (Jude Law) facing off against their iconic nemesis, Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris). To win the day, Holmes and Watson get help from a cunning gypsy woman name Sim (Rapace).

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

In David Fincher’s adaptation of late author Stieg Larsson’s worldwide bestseller, disgraced journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Craig) leaves the hard-hitting news publication he calls home, in order to take on a contract assignment for a wealthy aging industrialist (Christopher Plummer). The assignment: solve a decades-old mystery involving the disappearance of the industrialist’s cherished niece – a case which opens the lid on a Pandora’s box of terrible family secrets. In the midst of this investigation, Blomkvist finds his case intertwining with the life of a Gothic young hacker named Lisbeth Salander (Mara), whose brilliant mind and fierce will may be the key to solving the mystery – and then, restoring Blomkvist’s lost honor.

  1. So exited for Sherlock 2… the first one is “My Favorite Movie Of All Time”. It was really awesome (much better than Avatar IMO).

Sadly, I know the sequel will never match up to the original, but I’m still looking forward to seeing it.

    • sherlock holmes is one of my favorites as well. I have high hopes for this.

I hope they just don’t do the exact same style of movie. what made the first one so good was not only the plot, but the “think ahead” action stuff and stuff like that. I hope they can give us something just as orignal in this one and not just copy.

    • “My favorite Movie of all time”????? hahahahahahahah I guess you don’t watch too many movies then.

      • What was so bad about it then?
Because IMO, the plot, the action, the acting, the script/dialogue was all excellent. The film had terrific humor, drama, action, suspense, etc, etc.
I can’t really think of another movie that was so well executed.
The only fault I had with it, was that there might have been a bit too much action (which is why I’m having some doubts about the sequel – because watching the trailer, it was just kaboom after kaboom).

        P.S. I watch A LOT of movies… trust me.

        • The Avengers I agree with you Sherlock Holmes is better than Avatar and also my favorite of all time…avatar was too long and got bored of it SH was really awesome good action, good suspense and excellent acting from RDJ no one can better do that than RDJ and Daniel it seems you did’nt see SH or else you would’nt have said that only fools will say that who don’t know which movie is good and which is not!

          • avatar is an extremely overrated movie.

            • Avatar is quite simply the most unoriginal movie ever made. Did I enjoy it? Sure. It was a breathtaking experience to watch in 3D. Notwithstanding, it was beyond derivative. These days, all movies are adaptations, remakes or derivative, up to a point. The notion that a movie could feature an original concept or creativity has basically vanished. Avatar would have been fine had it only stolen from one or two movies. But it did not.

As I said, all movies are derivative up to a point. But Avatar blatantly rips off at least five, if not more movies. It was so obvious at times, I had a hard time watching. In the end, I’ll watch Fern Gully over Avatar any day of the week. James Cameron may have created Pandora twenty or however so many years ago, but while he sat on his idea until the technology to bring unrealistic 9 ft. tall blue people to life became available, a whoooole lot of movies were made in the interim, movies that would suggest Cameron’s universe was not necessarily of his own making. Anyways, I’ve said my piece. I found Sherlock Holmes to be a perfectly adequate movie. It was fun to watch in the theater, but I did not rush to buy the DVD. As far as “Dragon Tattoo” goes, if Fincher could make the creation of Facebook and the many depositions that resulted sexy, than I think Noomi Rapace’s turn as Ms. Salander will soon be forgotten.

        • I didn’t say I didn’t like the movie. It was good. But to say it was one of the best ever made is just ridiculous. I can name 100 movies that are better

          • Avenger actually said it was…”My favourite movie of all time.”.

This statement cannot be wrong because it is his own opinion. He did not say it was “..one of the best (movies) ever made.” It was you who said that.

            • Touche’

              • Hey probably Cloverfield is in my top 3 favorite movies, but just because when I watch it I don’t think it could be any better than it is for it’s idea, and I found the experience magnificent.

His preference for Sherlock Holmes could be due to liking the 19th century setting, or mistery movies. Hell, I wouldn’t like LOTR if I liked down-to-earth stuff.

          • Motoko is right: I said it was MY favorite movie.

And if you can name a hundred “better” movies, please, go ahead… I’d love to hear em’

P.S. You didn’t really answer my question: what was wrong with SH in your opinion?

  2. sherlock holmes looks good

  3. I’m looking forward to Sherlock Holmes. I really liked the first one. Haven’t watched it in a while… might have to change that soon

  4. I know the significance of the first image of GwtDT and the third isn’t important. I can’t figure out the second image. Could it be from the basement scene (torture)? FYI I never saw the swedish films, only read the books.

    • ya looks like the basement scene at the end of the third act.

  5. Sherlock Holmes looks pretty good prob wont be as good as the first 1 tho
