Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Stephanie Beatriz really wants to play She-Hulk. The actress has portrayed the 99th precinct’s resident “tough guy”, Detective Rosa Diaz, since the sitcom’s pilot. The show is currently heading into season 7. Although she already has experience playing a heroic character, it would seem Beatriz is prepared to add “superhero” to her resume as well.

It was announced at this year's D23 that She-Hulk is getting her own Disney+ series. Created by Stan Lee and John Buscema, Jennifer Walters debuted in Savage She-Hulk #1 in 1980. After a blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner, she developed a similar propensity for transforming into a large, green powerhouse. However, while Banner has always bemoaned his circumstances, Jennifer often considered her abilities to be a gift. Unlike her cousin, she largely retains her personality after transforming, making her not only one of the strongest heroes in the Marvel Universe, but one of the most intelligent as well. She-Hulk has joined up with many teams over the years, including the Avengers, A-Force and the Fantastic Four. Walters also continued to practice law, despite her condition, which would eventually become permanent.

When asked by ET about the online rumblings that she would be a perfect casting choice to play She-Hulk, Beatriz responded, “I would die to play that role. That is so flattering. That is one of the best characters in that universe.” Though she hasn’t received that particular phone call, the actress has spent some time strengthening her workout game, just in case it ever comes. She continued, “I definitely have upped my workouts since reading some of those things, but also, [I think it would] be really exciting for fans to see some of these characters that we kind of decided are one thing, to sort of be imagined in a different way.”

She-Hulk & Hulk in the MCU

While Disney+ already had a rather massive slate of upcoming original Marvel series in development, D23 saw the reveal not only of She-Hulk, but of Ms. Marvel and Moon Knight shows coming to the streaming platform as well. The MCU journey of Jennifer's cousin hasn’t exactly gone smoothly, with one ill-received solo film under the Green Goliath’s belt and a major recast from Edward Norton to Mark Ruffalo following that. Despite the fact that most viewers love Ruffalo as the Hulk, the actor has yet to star in a movie centering on the character, though he has appeared in several other MCU films. After the announcement that she was headed to Disney+, Ruffalo welcomed She-Hulk to the Marvel Studios family.

With her winning combination of brains and brawn, She-Hulk should be an easier character to incorporate into the MCU than her troubled cousin. Unlike previous Marvel series, fans have already gained assurance that these shows will majorly connect to the movies. Beatriz is a great actress whose expert comedic timing would serve the role well. She also seems pretty familiar with She-Hulk and is obviously very passionate about the character. As Beatriz noted herself, she might not be the most obvious choice for the role, but the actress could certainly bring Jennifer Walters to life, both her human side and her big, green alter ego.
