Jameela Jamil has reportedly joined the cast of She-Hulk as the series villain. Jamil is most famous to audiences for her role on the hit NBC series, The Good Place, where she played Tahani Al-Jamil, a wealthy philanthropist who had a habit of name dropping her celebrity friends. She has also lent her voice in a guest-starring capacity to many projects including Duck Tales, Harley Quinn, and most recently the reboot of Rugrats.
She-Hulk is one of the many Marvel Cinematic Universe projects coming to Disney+. The series will follow Jennifer Walters, played by Orphan Black star, Tatiana Maslany, as she balances her life as a lawyer and her newfound Hulk abilities. The series will feature the return of Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, a.k.a. the Hulk and Tim Roth as The Abomination. The cast also features Space Force star, Ginger Gonzaga, and Hamilton star, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and it appears that Jamil is the latest talent to join the cast.
Jamil is reportedly set to star in She-Hulk as a villain. The news was first broken by The Illuminerdi and then confirmed by Variety. While the Variety report did not specify what character Jamil would be playing, the story from The Illuminerdi says she will reportedly play the character of Titania. The character description has the code name 'Lucy' and is described as a Kardashian social media influencer with a dark side.
Titania was first introduced in Secret Wars #3 in 1984 and was created by Jim Shooter and Mike Zeck. Originally a short, timid girl, when being transported to Battleworld, she is given super strength, grows in size, and allies herself with the various villains including The Absorbing Man, who she eventually develops a relationship with. It is here where she also first battled She-Hulk and the two begin a rivalry. She has appeared in various Marvel storylines through the years, often as a villain to She-Hulk, given she has the strength to rival her.
Given the character's comic book origin, it appears the creators will have to change aspects of Titania's backstory to fit in with the current MCU. How a character like Titania will factor into the series, and if she will be the primary villain for the series as both a physical and competitive rival for Jennifer Walters, is what waits to be seen. She-Hulk currently is being pitched as a more comedic series, with ten half-hour episodes, as opposed to an action series, but there is still room for the character to have a villain to fight. So it will be interesting to see if Titania is the primary villain and if the combination of casting an actress like Jamil and the series can elevate what is a minor villain in the comics into a mainstream character.
