I disagree - I think the teaser is great- its a teaser - not the regular trailer. IT just gives us a glimpse at the spirits character, not the plot. And he is supposed to be awkward on the wire - Miller wanted to make the character appear more human (his gift to Eisner).

If this trailer is real then I'm disappointed. It basically looks like Sin City 2.
  • Endri
I was expecting something more closly like Dic Tracy. Not Sin City.

It isn't surprising really. Frank Miller is a comic book genius who has let his rep get to him. He hasn't written anything remotely quality in a long time. His last two Batman series have been pretentious nonsense and Sin City was over-rated as a comic to begin with. I am not overly familiar with the Spirit, but this hasn't gotten me excited at all. He is too into noir to direct this I think, would have been better handled by the guy who directed LA Confidential.

I don't know; I looked at the trailer and wasn't enthusiastic. I need to see something better if they want my $7.50.

This doesn't excite me at all... it actually makes me not want to care about it.

I don't know if its because its so cheap looking, or 'fan-made' as others point out...but there's not one good part to the trailer.

To the Marketers: How about "teasing" us with something worth a tease
  • TheMantis
It really does feel fan made or something, Him running/jumping on the rooftops looks akward as hell and sloppy. Idon't know what to think just yet..
  • Surma, the music heard in this trailer is Ennio Morricone's title theme from De Palma's version of The Untouchables. Just FYI... :)

As to the trailer itself, I'm torn. I haven't read the comics and know virtually nothing about the Spirit character, so that's not a factor for me. While this looks undeniably cool, it does resemble Sin City, which I think is going to confuse a lot of people. (I can hear it now... is this a sequel? What's the connection between... ? Etc.) Sin City was so unique-looking, I guess I would've preferred that it remain completely singular, if that makes sense. As to whether the look will work for The Spirit, I'm reserving judgment on this film until I see more...
  • i saw this yesterday on mtv.com, and i can't help but think of this as a sin city style type of movie. i don't read the books much but i have read enough to know the spirit's character and while this movie does'nt have that spirit feeling to it, it still displays his character in a way everyone can enjoy.

Surma, I'm only going from memory, but the look of this certainly aeemd similar to Sin City.

So does this mean this movie will officially be love it or hate it between movie goers of our caliber.

    This WAS the real teaser?

I saw this two weeks ago and dismissed it as being nothing more than some fan based project. I mean I really thought it was a fan film.

I thought the wire moves looked amateurish, the CGI tie just looked WRONG!

And what's with the modern setting mixed with the old?

I don't get it... I think this movie is sold on the basis of the few credits in the end... CREATOR OF 300, blah blah etc...

    How sad...

What it DID do was to make me want to see THE SHADOW... With Alec Baldwin...
  • I just want to see more of this!! I think Miller has done just the right thing with the Spirit and it will be cool!
Carn't help thinking though, what it would be like to see a Batman Movie done this way. just think if Miller got his hands on Batman for a film....
  • Surma
Oh, also the sound effects and score for this is half of what I liked so much. Just the music style seems like it will become as iconic as Danny Elfman's batman.
  • Surma
It does not seem to be same style as Sin City, I believe ur just automatically relating it too much to it.

As someone who didn't read the actual comic books, this looks like an eye candy dream. This looks extremely incredible looking, and I now have yet another movie to be giddy about.

Besides I know you KEL, your REALLY picky. Sometimes you have to take it like it is, some things have to be translated. Sure I understand the whole not being faithful to the comics thing, but with more and more comic book movies on the rise, one thing you have to realize is that none will be perfect and none will make all fans happy.
  • KEL
Meh. This was NOT what I wanted in a Spirit film.

Sin City, I understand, but the Spirit done in that style? Come on. Where's the Spirit's blue suit and fedora???? I love FM but this just looks ridiculous.

How could they do this to the Spirit?

    Almost seems like a joke.
