Secret J.J. Abrams Trailer With Iron Man 2 [Re-Updated]

Published 5 years ago by , Updated June 27th, 2013 at 3:10 pm,

When you go to see Iron Man 2 in theaters this weekend, you’re going to be treated to an unexpected surprise, courtesy of J.J. Abrams. What am I talking about?

Well, I’m sure many of you remember when we got our first teaser trailer for Abrams’ Cloverfield a few years back when it was attached to the first Transformers as it hit theaters. Most never knew this was coming but the surprise and mystery surrounding this unveiling is what helped drive the marketing and audience curiosity to want to check Cloverfield out.

Abrams is at it again and HitFix has learned that there will be a super secret trailer attached to the theatrical screenings of Iron Man 2 this weekend for his project titled Super 8. The best part is, it’s the rumored sequel to Cloverfield.

But if the reels for Iron Man 2 have been distributed, how come no one has seen or leaked this info yet? HitFix points out that there’s an additional final reel with an electronic lock that cannot be opened until the day the film releases.

A J.J. Abrams mystery project literally locked in secrecy, to be released alongside Iron Man 2 sounds like a major win for moviegoers and something to get very excited about.

cloverfield2 Secret J.J. Abrams Trailer With Iron Man 2 [Re Updated]Abrams has always been one of the most creative filmmakers when it comes to innovative viral marketing and a big part of his work is the trademarked mystery that envelopes the stories he tells, whether it be through television series’ like Lost and Alias or films with imaginative plot points like in Mission: Impossible 3.

If this does turn out to be a sequel to Cloverfield than I am very excited. I do however, hope that it’s not shot in the first-person camcorder style of the first, which had myself and audiences everywhere holding their head or stomach during screenings.

What I want to see from Cloverfield 2 is a movie told in an entirely different way, as a means to explore or delve deeper into the giant creature and its origins, spawning a new monster franchise of sorts.

What do you think about this news and more importantly, what do you think Super 8 is?

As soon as we learn more, Screen Rant will let you know.

[Update: If you do not want to be spoiled as to what the trailer for Super 8 could be about, do not read ahead.
Vulture nabbed some exclusive details on J.J. Abrams’ secret trailer attached to Iron Man 2 and here’s their scoop:

Insiders familiar with the trailer tell us that it shows a bunch of kids who are shooting a movie with a Super 8 camera in the seventies or eighties. When they develop the film, they notice that there’s an alien creature in the frame. Our sources also say that Super 8 is absolutely connected to 2008′s Cloverfield (possibly a prequel, but not a sequel).

If this proves to be true, J.J. will be continuing the Cloverfield franchise in an inventive way. This will no doubt have Abrams fans and movie geeks buzzing for a long time.]

[Update 2: J.J. Abrams says Super 8 has nothing to do with Cloverfield.]

  1. Darn it! Not that I have anything against seeing Iron Man 2 again (I liked it) but I’ll wager it still won’t be shown in UK cinemas anyway and I’ll have to wait for it to arrive online. Hopefully it won’t be that long.

  3. Sounds interesting, let’s hope the same trailer is also in Europe. And am I one of the few that didn’t had trouble with the shaky cam & really enjoyed the movie??

    • I had no issue with the cam. Though, honestly, I didn’t look at the screen much- you know how dates can go. ^_^;

  4. I’m not going to lie to you…. It makes me a little nauseated that Iron Man was released over seas before it was here. >:(

    • You do realize that was to avoid competition with the World Cup, right?

    • I’m not going to lie to yo… It makes me a little nauseated that almost every big movie gets released in the US before being released overseas. >:(

      • I think movies should be released simultaneously everywhere. I’m an idealist, though.

        • So do I, but the studios don’t seem to think that way… or at least they do, but won’t do much about it (it’s mainly down to having different distributors for the same film). They all seem to be stuck in a past that says movies need to be released earlier in the US than everywhere else, which in this day an age of the internet, is sort of stupid.

  5. I could only hope it was C2. I just want to see the scope of Clover’s Mum.

  6. Ah, Super 8…where we learn the creature’s only weakness: the vibrating bed.

  7. Remember that Dark Tower adaptation that Abrams was planning to make? Maybe…

    1 = The Gunslinger
    2 = The Drawing of the Three
    3 = The Waste Lands
    4 = Wizard and Glass
    5 = Chaos and Order
    6 = Song of Susannah
    7 = The Dark Tower
    8 = The Wind Through the Keyhole

    …see? Eight! There’s eight of them! Super 8! Right guys?

    • lol…. maybe… I doubt it…. But it’d be quite the treat if that’s the case. Of course, it’s possible that “Super 8″ is indeed just a shipping title- like Cloverfield when no one knew the actual title. Then they used Cloverfield as the title for the sake of marketing.

  8. Inception trailer too :-)

  9. To be honest, aside from Fringe, I really don’t care what Abrams does. I enjoyed Cloverfield but it would have been better if they had deleted the first act, and I am really tired of shaky-camera movies. And, as long as I’m bitching about Abrams, Star Trek was made almost impossible to watch with ADPs shining lights into the cameras.
    I got lost on the first episode of LOST and nearly walked out on Star Trek.

  10. If this is true, holy crap! If this is not true, still, holy crap!

    I loved Cloverfield and thought that the shaky-cam actually added to the film’s mysterious and unique story. In this age of spoilers and leaked footage and films being released online before they are ever released in theaters, it’s hard to believe that a film like this, from a director like Abrams, could go unnoticed.

    Well, here’s to hoping I walk out saying, “Holy crap!”

  11. omg omg omg omg , the hours ive wasted looking for cloverfield clues .
    sad day. but a prequal i can dig it.
    see sum origins of clover. bet it ends W/ the forming of taragato.
