I agree with almost all of your decisions here, and I’m surprised you’re still willing to give Shyamalan the benefit of the doubt. I’ve always enjoyed his movies, flawed as they can be, an I respect his vision as an artist and director. But if that rumor you mentioned is true, I’m going to be vomiting with you. If I run out of vomit, can I borrow some of yours?

Vic says:

LOL, yeah. I don’t know, Liz… for some reason out of the blue I just feel generous. The guy DID have talent but he had the misfortune of hitting one out of the park with his very first film. There’s nowhere to go but down from the top.

I’m just hoping that having a couple of less than stellar box office outings may have possibly humbled him a bit and caused him to regroup.

But regardless, if it turns out to be “The Revenge of Global Warming” I’ll launch my Diet Coke at the screen.

I’ve heard the script plot for Get Smart and its unfortunity horrible. :(
I sure hope X-files is good. Star Trek well we’ll see on that one. I predict that Star Trek 11 will make around 55 mil its first weekend and then drop 50%…
^
Biggest film of the year will be Dark Knight with IronMan second.Speedracer third the rest are unclear for now….(IMO)… :)
^
Thanks for this reference post Vic very informative data…great collection of screenrant films.

Go Speedracer Go………!

>>Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay>Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull>The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor<

It’s the end of a short era, where you could message your friends and say that you just saw a great movie, and it’s name was—

But it’s retro for 40somethings like me who grew up on Tom Swift and Hardy Boys series.

Jaye says:

Both Indy IV and Forbidden Kingdom are two movies I feel like I’ve been waiting all my life for! More than anything else this year, those are the two standouts. Good list!

KEL says:

Nice job,Vic. You must have spent days preparing this. :-)

Isn’t Thor supposed to be released this year?

Here’s the list of films I am most certain about seeing this year, listed in the order I am most anticipating them:

1.Iron man

2.Dark Knight

3.Indy 4

4.Incredible Hulk

5.Star Trek

6.Day the earth stood still

7.Speed Racer

8.Punisher

9.Hancock

10.Wall E

And I personally see IM finshing first at the BO,with either Indy 4 or TDK second. :-)

Oh,I also cannot wait to see the JLA: the New Frontier,PG-13 animated DVD project from DC on Feb 26th,but I didn’t list that cuz it’s a DVD release. ;-)

jerseycajun says:

Was the poster for “Untraceable” supposed to engender the desire to laugh hysterically? Because I can barely contain mine.

You forgot to put the quotes around the word “comedy” in the Paris Hilton preview. I think it’s a law somewhre. Truth in advertising or something ;)

And if the X-Files movie actually is self-contained, that makes it more worthwhile to take a look at.

I think Hancock could also vie with Jumper for the sleeper hit of the year. Time will tell, but both have my eye at the moment.

Altogether, it could be the best year for movie fans in a decade, but I always try to check my expectations, so I’ll hold off on going any further than “could be”.

John Taylor says:

Nice job, Vic. Dragonball is coming out this year? Didn’t know that. Since you don’t know much about DBZ, it’s about a guy named Goku from a planet called Vegeta, which has been destroyed. Goku can fly, has super strength, super speed (sounds familiar), can throw energy beams, and gets stronger with each confrontation. Yes, it is a Japanese version of Superman. I have to admit, I was hooked on this cartoon (Dragonball Z) but it will star the same guy from “The Invisible”, Justin Chatwin. Because of this, I don’t think it’s gonna work.

Iron Man is definately on my list as the most anticipated of 2008.

Niall says:

2008- a great year for the movies!
There are so many cool flicks coming out this year.
My top 5:
1. Indy

3. Bond 22
4. Valkyrie
5. The X-Files.

Great job on the pre-reviews for 2008! What a tough job. I’ve marked your top two picks as “must-see” on my calender. However, I don’t know what’s harder to believe, a remake of Deathrace 3000 with Jason S, or that you really have not seen “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle”! :-)

FlameStrike says:

Well, I have to disagree with you about Star Trek. Given how the writers screwed up Transformers, the movie that started out as the movie I’d been waiting for my whole life, I don’t have any hope for Trek to be any good.

Still, I agree that Iron Man looks good, and I hope that turns out better for you than Transformers did for me.

As for the rest, I’ll agree with you on the ones I know about, and, for the moment, trust your opinion on the ones I don’t know about.

Surma says:

Wow, thats all I have to say, triple A post Vic, thanks.

film dude says:

looking forward to dark knight especially

Dan says:

My personal movie list is:
1. The Dark Knight
2. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
3. Speed Racer
4. Hellboy 2: The Golden Army
5. Bond 22

Another cool list of the most anticipated movies of 2008, where you can check out a merge of a ton of the lists people have put on the net and see how they compare. You can also filter it by comedy or other genres which is cool.

http://seekler.com/lists/Anticipated+Movies+of+2008

i agree with you all this way with this list. i relly want to see iron man, the dark knight, cloverfield, hellboy 2, incredible hulk, the signal, wall-e, hancock, chronicals of narnia, punisher, wanted and the rest ill see if i think they are worthy enough to pay $9 to see.

Screen Rant says:

Dan, cool list, thanks for the link.

Guys, please don’t hesitate to spread the word about this preview if you really enjoyed it? It WAS a lot of work and I’d like to get a lot of eyeballs on it. :-)

Its interesting to see readers picking their choice 5 films. (Vic I’m looking forward to your ranking post)!!!

So far, Ironman and Dark Knight seem to be the top picks.
(What a shock).

Where’s that new young audience JJ Abrhams keep refering too?
Oh yeah there over at that other site. :)
Flamestrike, even though the new Trek is destined to blow, I think alot of people will want to see it for the spaceship wreck aspect of it all…

Go Speedracer Go!

Dan says:

I saw “UNTRACEABLE” last week in London and thought it was pretty good. It was very intense and suspenseful with some unique twists. I don’t know how “computer accurate” it all is but it was a good thriller that reminds me of “SE7EN” and “SAW” but in a good way. Diane Lane was great in it too. Worth a look in my humble opinion.

I’m all up for INDY!!!

Vic says:

Thanks, Dan. As I said I haven’t seen these yet and I could be off on some predictions (although it’s hard to believe). :-)

Adrian says:

Great job,Vic. Nicely done.

Here’s the list of films I am most certain about seeing this year, listed in the order I am most anticipating them:

1.Iron man

2.Dark Knight

3.Incredible Hulk

4.Indy 4

5.Punisher

6.Star Trek

7.Bond 22

8.Hellboy2

9.Hancock

10.Cloverfield

Also alittle movie call “Teeth”.

KEL says:

Nice line ^ up there,Adrian! ;-)

Even tho Batman is my favorite superhero, the Iron Man film tops my list because: A) I’ve seen Batman, both good and bad,on film before,B) We’ve NEVER seen Iron Man in LIVE ACTION before,EVER,and C) Iron Man,to me,looks to be the best, most exciting and action packed film of 2008. I can’t wait to see it! :-D

Can’t wait to see that second trailer during the superbowl!! :-)

Jim Carey says:

Kel, now I know why Iron Man topped your list.

Batman Begins was great and I could watch it with friends who don’t normally like superhero flicks. How can Jack Nicholsen’s Joker be improved on?

TDK promos seem Joker-centered and grisly, with Batman as an asterisk. I’ll probably skip TDK. But I’ll probably see Iron Man more than once!

Adrian says:

Thanks Kel. Funny thing is, your list was so ideal to what my most anticipated films that I copied your list and moved and added a few. :)
So… Thanks, man! Also love Bats and Indy, but Marvel will kick major butt this year!

KEL says:

LOL! Thanks Adrian. And I agree,Marvel’s gonna be cleaning up! :-)

Jim,I love Nicholson’s Joker, but I really think Ledger will be good too. I don’t think he’ll top his,I don’t think he’ll even try (why would they?),I think he’s going to be in his own category when it comes to great Jokers. :-)

I hope it will be a Batman movie and not “Joker with Batman too”.

And I am definitely seeing IM more then once!! :-D

FlameStrike says:

“Flamestrike, even though the new Trek is destined to blow, I think alot of people will want to see it for the spaceship wreck aspect of it all…”

That’s what scares me. Even assuming it’s as bad as I believe it will be, or worse, that many people going to see it will almost guarantee that it’s perceived as being the right way to handle Trek, and they’ll continue on that path. After all, it’s the money they care about, it’s the money that is the measure of success, and not what fans and other movie viewers end up saying about it.

I just worry that this movie will mark a bad new direction for Trek, and after its success it’s not going to be easy to convince Paramount that they screwed it up.

Jim Carey says:

Why is it so common to think that Star Trek 0 will suck? It’s the same guy who brought us Lost, and–oh. Never mind.

No, really.

steve adams says:

(Just a reminder this entire post is my opinion only).
^
Well I don’t think going back to Kirk and Spock was a very good direction at all.
^
Others think neato let’s go back cause I love those characters and we can bring Nimoy in and maybe resurect Kirk, go back in time and see Pike before the Chair maybe even that totally awesome way Kirk cheats on the koboyashi training test,,it will just be bitchen.
As if for some reason there’s nothing else left?
It blows my mind when I think of the different paths they could have gone down.
They not only chose the wrong path they chose the totally wrong path.
Not only has CBS split the fans down the middle they have set themselves up to make the perfect movie or face a shields down direct hit to the warp coil.
^
I think alot of us are looking forward to seeing it tank.. And the only way they know how to say it is by ragging on it. Like me…. :) .
^
But there’s others that disagree that’s totally cool I don’t have a prob. And if they pull off a winner and I like it I will be here to post it.
^
Jim, I don’t like Abhrams work ether… I feel like he’s a glorified ripoff artist. All his concepts are lifts from allready proven ideas.

Jim Carey says:

Steve, I made it sound like I don’t like Abrams, but I do. I’m on the edge of my seat for Cloverfield. And for more Lost.

Abrams’ team went to comic fans first to pitch Lost. They throw lots of lore in each episode just for the fans. They respect the various levels of viewers–although some lost interest when the story got bogged down and the question-to-answer ratio didn’t improve. But towards the end of last season, many things started falling into place.

Many products do better when a second manufacturer comes up with a better name, better promotion, better packaging. TOS was my least favorite Trek (DS9 was my fave), so anything will be an improvement.
