  1. These morons in the town i live are trying to plan a party like this…like trying to plan a CRAZY PARTY. Do you understand how mentally ill that is? That is absurdly stupid and completely pointless

    • It may be time to invest in a flame thrower. ;-)

  2. I have not listen to this episode yet but here’s my pick for the box-office battle:
    1. John Carter
    2. The Lorax
    3. Project X
    4. Silent House
    5. A Thousand Words
    10. This Means War

  3. I skipped to the part about the Project X review and spoilers. This is my first time commenting on here so go easy on me.

I saw this movie the other night with a few friends my age (in our 20′s), there were certainly a lot of laugh out loud moments for me, moments where I basically went “did he/she just say that?” or “did that just happen?” and even clapped at a few instances (without realising until after I started clapping). I went in expecting a ‘Transformers Experience’ as I’d like to call it, a fun-mindless-entertaining movie. And I did walk out of the cinemas thinking it was a pretty decent movie, and just really wanted to go party like the characters did. The soundtrack was great, and I definitely agree that it was kind of like a “music video”, which may be good and bad I guess.

The things I didn’t like were the lack of character development, not that there needs to be, nor do you need a moral story behind every movie but after that initial rush of ‘oh I wish I was going to parties like that’ there was definitely a sense of ‘well what was the point of that?’ because there really wasn’t. Although the ending of a movie should not define the movie as a whole, it does play a pivotal role (and even if there is no point I’m not too fussed because I didn’t expect one), but the fact they went with the whole ‘oh thomas is basically screwed for life but it was totally worth it’ and his dad at the end basically telling him ‘how proud he was’ and how he ‘didn’t know he had it in him’ I thought that was terrible.

And looking back at the movie (some more now), and hearing both sides rant (yes pun) about the extremities of liking and disliking it, one thing is clear, the people that do go to parties like these, people that have been and just people that still can (this age group) will most likely be the people that enjoy this movie the most, if not the only type. That’s why there is such a divide in its extreme because the audience are also made up of a lot of people that don’t fit that above criteria, which is fine too, but don’t expect good reviews for it (score wise) because some (maybe most) top critics probably don’t fit in that criteria anymore/ever did either.

As a side note, my first time listening to this podcast (yes I’m going to ‘review’ this too) I was quite disappointed with the behaviour of Kofi. For a long time he/you have been probably my favourite reviewer here on SR, always loved the passion and passion for comic book movies in particular. But I really felt let down by the child-like behaviour towards the other members (Ben predominantly) it was very mean spirited, there was a lot of unnecessary langage, laced with a lot snarky/sarcastic tones, and at times just downright disrespectful. I just find it stupid that’s it’s almost like you took Ben’s one star review as a personal attack. Nothing wrong with disagreeing and thinking the other person is utterly wrong and off the mark, but there’s really no need to speak to someone like that, ever. Remember this?:

    Thanks for reading,

    • K –

Thanks for listening. I hope you’ll tune in again as this one was definitely our most heated debate and I think everyone was more animated than normal.

We knew going in that it would be and just hoped that people would find the banter entertaining.

That said, we’re normally a bit more grounded. Well, except for that Anthony guy – he’s just nuts.

    • I didn’t feel Kofi was really serious about, say, calling Ben a 58 year old man with 3 kids yelling at the teens on his lawn playing loud rap music. I think the guys were just kidding around.

      • I am serious when I call Ben a 58 year old man. ;-) Of course, the real Ben that people don’t know about will be the one to burn your house down.

    • K,

Don’t want to let you down. I’m not really mean-spirited, as Ben said I was just joking around with him. We’re actually old grad-school buddies (and hey, I brought him into this fold, so I can’t be all bad ;-)

In real life I do have the gift/curse of gab, and am an acerbic personality; I sound much better on paper than I do in voice. I pride myself on being the crazy uncle of this podcast.

Hopefully next week (or if you listen to prior weeks) you’ll fall in love with old Mr. Outlaw a bit more ;-) – we’ll work on it.

      Thanks for your thoughts.

    • @K

Oh, and: Sorry for party rocking.

    • If it makes you feel better, in the Box office showdown, I’m beating Kofi by a factor of 20 to 1 by points ;)

  4. So many sold moments in Avengers? Definitely!

  5. The podcast was pretty funny, it was like listening to my gaming buddies talk.

  6. A couple was actually going at it in the theater??!! OMG!!!

    • Yeah, that was a bit extreme. It was not even empty.

      • If you believe Ant’s stories ;)

  7. Americans just love drugs too much. You can party hard, without taking drugs.

    • Or alcohol.

      • Not true. Definitely Not True.

  8. I saw Tooth Fairy 2 in the Best Buy ad last week and I thought to myself “they made a sequel to that but I still have to wait another year for Star Trek 2.” Sometimes I hate Hollywood.

    • Put it this way… if you wanted a rushed Star Trek 2 it would of been right next to Tooth Fairy 2… if you want it done right they you shouldn’t mind the wait.

  9. So Kofi, et. al.; what rating would you have given Project X?

    • I think he mentioned something on the ‘cast about a 2.5 (roughly)… if I remember correctly.

      • He did. I heard it after I wrote that.

  10. 30 years old is old?! I have words going around in my mind but this is a family site, so I’ll keep quiet. :-D

    • Don’t worry… Vic is older than 30 years old (spoilers) and he’s still the most rugged person on the site. He can bend metal with his hands. He chops down trees with his hands. True story.

  11. 1.John Carter
    2.The Lorax
    3.Project X
    4.Silent House
    5.Act Of Valor

    10.The Vow

  12. 1) Lorax
    2) John Carter
    3) Silent House
    4) Project X
    5) Act of Valor
    10) This Means War

  13. As far as Loki’s army I think they’re just some random drone things that he creates because they’re going to have to squeeze in an explanation for them (let’s say it is the skrull or something) and develop all THAT stuff and mix it in with the development of the avengers coming together. I think it would just be too much info for people who haven’t read the comics. Keep in mind there’s going to be people watching this that HAVEN’T even seen the lead-in movies as well. It’s cleaner if the film focuses on developing the relationships between the team, Loki taking over, and then the big fight.

  14. Very good podcast this week. Did the Green Lantern podcast happen or was it just a urban legend? Anyway here are the picks:

    1) John Carter
    2) Lorax
    3) Project X
    4) Silent House
    5) Safe House

    10) This Means War

  15. I’ve just finished watching “8: A play” on Youtube. I can’t remember who suggested that on the Podcast but this is why I love the Rant and Rave section. It was one of the best play I’ve seen for a long time and very touching. I wasn’t very interested in the subject before (living in Canada (Quebec), we don’t have that kind of social issues very often), but it made me think and it convinced me to support same-sex marriage! THAT is what screenwriting should be all about…making a difference and trying to say something that matters!

  16. I love it when you guys get into debates but I’ll have to side on with kofi on this on how to view movies. It’s 1 1/2 or 2 stars.

Rob Keyes FTW on the box office battle and Anthony always has the best stories & jokes. Love the podcast great show and I can’t wait til next week sounds like Ben doesn’t hate a movie for once (LOL I’m kidding ben)

  17. … Who’s going to tell him “footage” isn’t pronounced “Foeh-tij.” Footage, like a foot.

    • Kofi puts his shoes on one phote at a time.

      • My little brother tells me that all the time Anthony. You hear what I have to say about it. PHO-TAGE crew for life.
