  1. I don’t get how Sherlock Holmes 2 got 3.5 stars when you guys feel the way you guys do about the movie according to this podcast. Your verbal descriptions sound more like a 2 out of 5 star or 2.5 out of 5 star review…

    • Ken –

Review scores are entirely up to the person writing the written review. Even if 3/4 of us thought it was a 1/5, Kofi would have still been able to give it whatever he felt best represented his feelings.

That said, I’d guess that despite our complaints, Kofi would stand by his review score. I think, for the most part, we agree that the film is going to satisfy audiences – but that we don’t think it really did anything new or (besides a better villain) offered many improvements.

Last up, I’d say the point of the written reviews is to put-forth a comprehensive analysis of the film – something that we can revise and ensure is balanced (if necessary) before it goes on the site. The podcast is intended to be a fun and more casual way for us to talk (and at times complain) about the films – so it’s no stretch to assume that those convos are going to be a little more one-sided (or at the very least paint a different picture than the written review).

Forgive the lengthy reply, I just want to make sure that readers (and listeners) don’t take the podcast review as the site “canon” – especially given all the crazy things Anthony says. We try and be sharp and analytical on the podcast but we’re also just having fun and chatting about things that jumped out at us – which, sadly, tend to be the less successful aspects of the film.

      Thanks for listening man.

      • @ben

I understand, but I was mainly talking about Kofi’s comments as well on the film. He wasn’t exactly saying it was good on the podcast either. I think his summary of it was “eh” which sounds like a 2.5 to me, lol. But I get that maybe verbally he might be a bit harsher than when he’s trying to put down a serious review on paper. :-)

I don’t understand why some people seem to love it so much, I thought this movie was terrible. I thought the first one was “eh” and this one was just… terrible… But that’s just my opinion.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Hugo, and Mission: Impossible made the end of the year worth it though…

      • Oh, and to add to it, I didn’t like this movie for EXACTLY the reasons you guys mentioned on the podcast. And I’m not just saying that because I heard you guys say it, I’ve made comments about that on this site before I heard your podcast, lol.

        • Ha! I believe you (and probably saw some of your comments). Have you watched the Sherlock BBC series?

        • I believe the content of the review speaks to the score of the review. So if there’s a question, just read the review. It should explain where I stand.

    • I think we actually talked about that idea a couple weeks back. We could definitely come up with an ‘awards battle’ for the Oscars (at least).

      • A oscars battle would be cool. I think Anthony should pick “Kevin Hart: Laugh At My Pain” for best picture.
