Screen Rant Technical Stuff

Published 5 years ago by

Hey folks. We’re going through a transition here on the site so at some point tonight I’ll be shutting down commenting so that we don’t LOSE any of your comments. It’ll happen around midnight EST and I’ll probably bring commenting back on line around noon tomorrow (Saturday) barring any complications.

The look of the site isn’t going to change, we’re just doing some things in the background to help improve the performance/speed of the site for you. icon smile Screen Rant Technical Stuff

Thanks for your patience.

  1. Worth the wait Vic..

  2. Hey Vic; I’ve been getting diverted, for a brief moment, ten seconds or less to an advertisement nearly every time I try to connect to ScreenRant. This has been going on about a week or so and I was wondering if this my ISP or ScreenRant’s handy work? The site shows up in my history as: my.break.com

    Its only mildly annoying and I bring it up to you because if ScreenRant is doing this it’s not working real well. In most cases the add is visible for one or two seconds before continuing on to ScreenRant. And as often as it is completely successful, it completely fails.

    I don’t know how advertising really works on the web, but if someone is trying to hijack my connection to ScreenRant, they ought to be paying you for it. :)
    Plus I thought you should know.

  3. It’s not hijacking, it’s an ad. Sorry for the inconvenience but we’ve got to do what we can. Believe me I turn down a LOT of ads on the site that I think would be annoying. I don’t do “flashing” ads, ads that have audio that plays automatically, popups, or things like that.

    Believe me, it could be worse. :-)

  4. Ahhh, so that’s what happened. I went to your site late on Friday and only saw old threads. I figured that you might be working on something, and looks like I was right. Take your time, buddy; we know you do your best to bring us the latest entertainment news in the best format you can.

  5. Thanks, John. Everything seems to be back to normal, with the exception of some issues on the home page with the proper thumbnail images displaying.

  6. Hey Vic;

    I think Screen Rant is the best site of it’s type. Period! Probably the best thing on the web. The quality of your site makes it a pleasure to visit and read for hours on end!

    Having said said that, the hit & miss (mostly miss) appearance of that ad led me to believe that it may not be happening with your permission. That bothered me because I knew you are very selective in the type of ads you allow on the site and I did not want anybody trying to rip you off! (If thats even possible?) In the economic state everything is in, every dollar counts. I don’t mind ads (after all, they pay the bills and the salaries), but I hate people trying to rip off others and I was concerned that might be what was happening.

    I didn’t mean to sound like I was questioning how you run Screen Rant, I would never be so bold. Besides, I think you do superb work here and have an excellent staff! ;)

  7. Hey David, I appreciate your keeping an eye out for the site. Some ads do cause problems and I’ve had to disable those in the past.

    And thanks for the kind words, bro. We work hard over here. :-)
