On the heels of of an evening that saw MTV not only bring us the MTV Movie Awards - featuring an exclusive new trailer for The Dark Knight Rises but the season 2 premier of Teen Wolf as well. Now it is being reported that MTV is currently developing another television series based off a popular movie  - and the question is, "do you like scary movies?"

According to THR, MTV - the network famous for bringing us shows such as The Real World and Jersey Shore - is currently working on a TV series adaption of the popular horror franchise, Scream.

MTV tried its hand at movie-to-TV adaptation in 2011 with a Teen Wolf TV show, which is based off the Michael J. Fox film of the same name. The Teen Wolf television series is seen as a darker version of the film and was an instant success within the younger demographic. MTV is hoping to catch lightning in a bottle twice with the development of this Scream television series.

The first Scream film, which was directed by horror maestro Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street) and written by Kevin Williamson (The Vampire Diaries), was released in 1996 and tells the story of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and a group of her friends who find themselves smack dead (pun intended) in the middle of a real-life horror film, as they're chased down by a killer known as "ghost face." Scream, which would go on to birth 3 sequels, also featured performances by Courtney Cox (Friends), David Arquette, as well as a cameo by the one and only Drew Barrymore. After a long hiatus, the franchise returned to theaters last year with Scream 4, which had a lukewarm box office reception ($97 million on a $40 million budget).

How Scream will play out as a TV series, and what, if any, effect it will have on the still rumored Scream 5 movie  is anyone's guess, but with MTV's unlimited resources and keen ability to attract countless young viewers, one cannot bet against the show being yet another hit. So now the question moves from "do you like scary movies?" to, "do you like scary television series?" For now we shall have to wait and see.

There is currently no word on when we can expect the launch of Scream on MTV, but continue to check back with Screen Rant for further details as they break.
