Brace for a barrage of meme-ably bad insults because the Chanels are baaaack! Fox’s Scream Queens is returning for a second season after a middling first run, and the first teaser for season 2 shows that even though the girls suffered a slight setback at the tail end of season 1, they’ve still got tons of sass on tap.
The vid presents the show’s three leads Chanel No. 1 (Emma Roberts), Chanel No. 3 (Billie Lourd), and Chanel No. 5 (Abigail Breslin) in all their pink-hued glory, donning some sequin-embellished nursing hats — alongside a pair of fuzzy earmuffs in No. 3’s case, of course — as they traipse down the hall of a hospital they’re now haunting-slash-transforming into the new HQ for murder madness. The tagline for the teaser tells us that this go-round they’re “putting the mad diva in M.D.”
Scream Queens is expected to pick up where it left off for this trio of Chanels — they’re no longer kicking up crazy at the Kappa Kappa Tau house but are instead grappling with a “new battle” at the hospital they’ve taken up residence (and occupations) at. (At the tail end of last season, the girls were given life sentences at the Palmer Asylum for the Insane after being framed for all the sorority house slaughters, so that’s probably the same place they’re at now. Probably.)
There’ll also be a new romantic entanglement at play in the second round, as Chanel No. 3 a.k.a. Sadie Swenson is expected to form some kind of romantic link with Taylor Lautner’s new character Dr. Cassidy Cascade (which means we’ll probably spend a little less time revisiting the history of Chad Radwell’s many conquests, and we’ll all be better for it, too).
Alongside Lautner, actor John Stamos is also coming in as a medical man for season 2 — he’ll play a secretive surgeon named Brock Holt — and show originals Jamie Lee Curtis (Dean Munsch), Lea Michele (Hester/Neckbrace/Chanel No. 6), Keke Palmer (Zayday Williams), Niecy Nash (Denise Hemphill), and Glen Powell (Chad Radwell) will be back as well.
Noticeably missing from the character list for the new season are Grace (Skyler Samuels) and her dad Wes (Oliver Hudson), who managed to dodge the slew of Red Devil killers but are probably celebrating their survival by making epic ‘90s playlists somewhere off campus.
Scream Queens season 2 premieres on Fox Tuesday, September 20th at 9/8c.
