Three New Victims Join ‘Scream 4′; Lauren Graham Out?

Like it or not, another Scream film is on the way. The cast of Scream 4 (or Scre4m as the teaser posters title it) has continued to steadily grow over the past weeks, occasionally losing actors on the way.

So far the fresh blood includes Emma Roberts (Wild Child), Hayden Panettiere (Heroes), Rory Culkin (Signs) and Nico Tortorella (Make It or Break It). Some familiar faces from the first three Scream films are also returning, including Courtney Cox, David Arquette and Neve Campbell.

However, the cast list doesn’t stop there as Heat Vision Blog is reporting three more Scre4m casting additions: Adam Brody (The O.C.), Marley Shelton (Grindhouse) and Erik Knudsen (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World).

Brody will play, “a cop recently graduated from college who was raised on the “CSI” TV series”; Shelton will play, “a deputy who knew Campbell’s character in high school” (replacing Lake Bell who recently dropped out due to scheduling conflicts); and Knudsen will, “have a role similar to the one played by Jamie Kennedy in the first two installments, a character who is familiar with horror movie conventions and a provider of comic relief.”

I’m particularly excited that the film will once again have a character like Kennedy’s, who pokes fun at the conventions and clichés of the horror genre (which are all the more clichéd nowadays). Knudsen’s casting negates previous rumors that Kennedy would be resurrected for the fourth film.

"Never, ever, ever under any circumstances say, 'I'll be right back.' Because you won't be back."

On another casting note, it’s being rumored by Ghouls on Film that the previously cast Lauren Graham may drop out of Scream 4 due to a, “date conflict and script changes.” Graham was set to portray the mother of Roberts’ character, Jill Kessler. Stay tuned to find out if this rumor is true or not.

One of the major aspects of a Scream movie is the twist of who the killer is under that ghostly mask. For Scream 4, Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson (both returning after working on all three previous films) are apparently being so secretive about who the killer is that they’re not even sending scripts out to agencies. They even went so far as to ask the actors at a table read to stop reading at the 75-page mark to prevent them from knowing the ending of the film.

With how fast info gets passed around the Net these days, I’ll be very impressed if they manage to keep the killer’s identity a secret up until the film’s release.

I’m one of those people who actually doesn’t mind that they’re making another Scream movie. I remember really liking the first one (I actually haven’t rewatched it in years but fully plan to soon), but I honestly can’t remember much about the second or third. The reason it doesn’t bother me that they’re making another is probably due to the fact that it’s the fourth film and not an actual reboot or remake, per se (though early rumors that old cast will “pass the torch” to the new cast does hint at a unofficial reboot).

What do you think of the cast that’s been assembled so far for Scream 4? Are you upset, happy or indifferent to the fact they’re making another Scream?

Scream 4 begins shooting this week in Michigan and slashes its way into theaters on April 15th, 2011.

  1. I was really looking forward to Lauren Graham! So I hope she’s still onboard!

  2. wouldnt that be awesome if Neve Campbell was the killer in this one?

    • The reason she can’t be the killer is because they already toyed with that idea. Repeatedly. In the first ‘Scream’, Sidney WORE the mask and cowl, got on the phone with the voice-changer to one of killers (Billy, I believe) and then stabbed him…with an umbrella.

In the second film, Mickey, one of the two new killers spewed a false scenario in which Sid’s movie-fried brain couldn’t take it any more and she snapped and killed everybody. I’m pretty sure Randy also briefly speculated, at some point, that Sidney was the killer.

They will probably “pass the torch”. Sid will die. I would say that Sid will most likely be the first kill, but I have seen on-set pix of her in several outfits and locations, so that’s not it. Neve, if you recall, begrudgingly returned for the third installment “one last time” to end it once and for all. It was very FINAL. The Trilogy was wrapped up. Done.

(Remember when the oft-referenced Jamie Lee Curtis came back to ‘Halloween’ “one last time” to KILL MICHAEL ONCE AND FOR ALL” twenty years later? Then came back ONE MOOOOORE TIME to get killed by Michael who somehow, she hadn’t actually killed in the previous film.)

I think that Sid should somehow fake her death to be free once and for all. She could get Dewey to pose as one of the killers. Dewey could FAKE-KILL Sydney to trick one of the actual killers. (Sid and Dewey would have already killed Killer Two, unbeknownst to Killer One.) !! The reveal should happen after the fact, so we, the audience, think that she actually died. I should write this!

      • I just can’t imagine what the motive would be this time around. Sidney and her friends are certainly done paying for her slut mother’s sins. What else could they possibly come up with other that copy-cat killing for fun?

I, for one would love to get back to the “studio” “set” of ‘Stab’… part… 3 or 4 rather than Woodsboro. The ‘Stab 3′ shoot was never completed since the whole cast was slaughtered. (What is the fake movie franchise in the ‘Stab’ series called?? ‘Slash’?) The possibilities are endless: “Movie-kills” that are actually REAL kills. Imagine the whole “crew” applauding a death scene take only to realize that it was real! Or, or, or… Imagine a scene (in Scream 4) in which the “crew” films the scene (for Stab 3.2) of the filming of that scene (for ‘Slash 3′) …with another real death????? Does your brain hurt yet? To quote Mickey, “…art imitating life imitating art imitating life imitating……”

  3. No, that would be predictable.

  4. Lauren Graham is not in this anymore. She was going to have a pivotal, but small role, but the script was randomly changed, much to the cast’s dismay, and the part Graham was going to play was reduced to a mere cameo. So basically there was no point for her to go all the way to Michigan for a cameo.

I hope this isn’t a sign, with all these cast changes and such, maybe it’s like a curse…that the movie shouldn’t occur. Apparently, several cast members are very upset about the script changes. Hopefully, none of the main cast members don’t drop out. Filming has already begun, so hopefully they can sort everything out, because if they don’t then expect more of the cast to bail on the film.

    • they just better not eff it up with a PG-13…….

  5. im not to big of a fan of Graham, to me her best performance was in bad santa in that one scene LOL
