Yesterday we learned of a few new casting additions to Scream 4, the upcoming and long-awaited fourth installment in the slasher franchise. The fresh faces were Adam Brody (The O.C.), Marley Shelton (Grindhouse) and Erik Knudsen (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World).

Now we’re hearing word from The Wrap that two popular actresses are joining the ever expanding Scre4m cast: Mary McDonnell (Battlestar Galactica) and Alison Brie (Community, Mad Men). They join the aforementioned Brody, Shelton and Knudsen, as well as Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin, Nico Tortorella and familiar faces Courtney Cox, David Arquette and Neve Campbell.

Brie will play Rebecca, “franchise heroine Sidney Prescott’s ambitious personal assistant who secretly envies her boss’ reluctant fame and fortune.” It’s not yet known who McDonnell will play, but an additional piece of Scream 4 casting news might be a clue about who her character is.

Yesterday also brought the rumor that Scre4m cast member Lauren Graham had dropped out of the film due to scheduling conflicts. Now The Wrap is confirming that Graham has dropped out for that very reason, the conflict likely being with her NBC series, Parenthood.

Does this mean that McDonnell has been brought on to replace Graham as the mother of Emma Robert’s character, Jill Kessler? It’s entirely possibly (the timing seems right) but there’s also word floating around that Graham’s role was whittled down in the script and ended up as a cameo, so she decided not to do it. Take what you like from that little piece of info…

At this rate, Ghost Face is going to have a lot of victims to terrorize and kill. Can director Wes Craven and his co-writer Kevin Williamson keep the identity of the killer secret until the film’s release next April? They’re certainly giving it their best shot, even going so far as to stop the cast from reading past page 75 in the script! I hope they can keep it hidden because I want to be as shocked as I was with the original.

Thoughts on the latest casting additions to Scream 4? Are you upset Graham will no longer be starring in the film?

Scre4m has already started shooting and slashes its way into theaters on April 15th, 2011.
