[Update: Check out a bunch of images from Scott Pilgrim!]

Oh, hosanna, Universal is finally giving us a look at Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.  As badly as I want to be surprised, shocked, stunned  and lots of other words beginning with the letter “s” when the movie hits theaters, it’s been highly distressing witnessing the almost non-existent attempt to market a film with as much potential as this one.

It was only last week that the official Scott Pilgrim poster debuted at ShoWest – now the teaser trailer has arrived!

I’m hesitant to use the words “stylistic smorgasbord,” but it kind of is.  The film boasts classic arcade sounds to compliment its on-screen Batmanesque comic book effects, candy-colored hair, and sharp flashes of the wit that made Scott Pilgrim such an epically enjoyable read.

The trailer is also proof of what some lucky viewers already knew from director Edgar Wright’s personal sneak peaks: that this movie really will be “an epic of epic epicness.”

No more talk! Check out the trailer:

In the trailer, we’re given a glimpse of the seven evil exes Scott must fight- sorry, defeat – in order to date Ramona. There is some wonderfully imaginative visual splender going on in this trailer – in particular the clue-ometer, which makes a brief appearance (see the final image below).  And, to be frank, that’s all I need.

I don’t need one frame more to whet my whistle – though I’m sure now that the marketing ball is rolling, we’ll be given plenty more. The fans weighed in with mixed reviews on that teaser poster, but I can’t imagine this trailer garnering anything but praise and excitement.

Like I said, I don’t need anything more to satisfy my Pilgrim craving – but I know that you guys might icon smile Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Trailer [Updated With Images!] . Here are some images from the trailer, courtesy of Collider:

And yes, that is Captain America himself, Chris Evans, you see there.

Alongside Evans, Scott Pilgrim stars Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Die Hard 4), with appearances by Anna Kendrick (Up In The Air), Kieran Culkin (Igby Goes Down), Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) and Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore).

Time to weigh in, Pilgrimites: Is the style of the film reflective of the books? Are the characters, so far as we’ve seen, like you imagined them to be? Are you as epically freaking Jonesed for this as I am?

August 13th can’t get here quickly enough. For those who might’ve forgotten, that’s when Scott Pilgrim vs. The World will be unleashed upon theaters.

  1. Wow.. this looks awesome. It has this comic look all over it and Michael Cera is a good actor, despite the fact that he is stuck in the same characters. I mean, superbad is the perfect example that this guy can do some serious acting.

  2. the graphic novels rock and the last volume 6 will be out in july about a month before the movie

  3. I'm so excited for this movie! I'm just a fan of Edgar Wright and can't wait to see what he did with this material! Aug. 13th can't come soon enough.

  4. man this is more than i could of hoped for it look just like the book page. this will be in my mind forever ive watched it like 40 time now. so need less to say im obsessed.hahahhah did i say obsessed for get that i said that.

  5. I'll say it now, and hopefully again in a few months-that was Scott Pilgrim, plain and simple. I could not be more excited for this movie.

  6. oh man this looks great!…can't wait

  7. Yeah, whether you love or hate the type, the boy's got skills.

  8. Hopefully there will be some cast members there to sign them at SDCC…!

  9. The man certainly has a handle on style and genre. I can't think of a better director to helm this project, and I think the trailer speaks volumes to that end.

  10. Word, son!

  11. I've watched it a few times myself :). This makes me really excited for Comic Con…

  12. As I mentioned when the poster came out, I'm not familiar with the source material, but now I REALLY want to be. Because it looks amazing. Case in point why Universal should be getting it out there, because “appealing” is an understatement, whether or not someone's already read the books.

  13. Wow. Epic is an understatement. I hope this one delivers. This is definitely on my list now…

  14. Looks pretty awesome, I'm looking forward to seeing the trailer tomorrow at the theatre when watching Kickass… and I guess I'm also looking forward to seeing the actual movie. ;)

  15. The first I ever saw of this was a few frames of the comic book and I wasn't the slightest bit interested . I'm not a fan of the style of art from the comic , so I figured the movie would not even register on my radar.

I now very much want to see this movie ; it looks f**king awesome.

  16. Yeah, it's problematic that they aren't doing SQUAT. I get the feeling from his twitter feed that Edgar Wright doesn't want to show any of the movie to anyone, the way so many films get overexposed so early now, and I understand that.

But they can market it without some three minute spoilerific trailer, AM I RIGHT?

  17. I had tickets to a test screening of this, but when I arrived at the cinema the studio had decided at the last minute to cancel. I was not happy!

  18. …WHAT?!

Effing jeez what is wrong with Universal. This is… it's sheer madness.

  20. Wow, this knocked Inception off my list as the must-see film of the summer, cannot wait!

  21. Never read the graphic novels, but I can say with confidence that this movie looks incredible and anyone who says otherwise takes it up the ass. Scientific fact.
