When Kick-Ass came out earlier this year, people thought it was THE cool movie of 2010, but then Scott Pilgrim vs. the World came along and gave Kick-Ass a run for its cool-cred money. The box office might not have been too kind to Mr. Pilgrim (it didn't even make its money back) but both fans and critics were.

Scott Pilgrim is surely one film that will be watched over and over by fans at home and by the looks of what's on the DVD and Blu-ray, the movie itself is not the only thing worth laying down your hard-earned cash for, come its release date of November 9th.

By way of the official press release, we learn that both the Scott Pilgrim DVD and Blu-ray release have a wealth of special features for fans to sink their teeth into, including deleted scenes, bloopers and all manner of featurettes looking at the visual,  music and sound effects. You're certainly getting a lot of bang for your buck.

I usually just buy the DVD of a movie rather than the Blu-ray, unless the movie itself is going to benefit from the improved picture and sound quality, or if it has more special features to offer. Scott Pilgrim certainly falls into that category, so I will definitely be getting the combo-pack. I'm particularly looking forward to seeing behind-the-scenes featurettes of the visual effects work, as it was one of the most enjoyable aspects of the movie.

While I certainly wish Scott Pilgrim had performed a lot better at the box office, I can completely understand why it didn't.

The studio really went all out with the marketing for the movie, releasing promo after promo for it online, in particular. However, as films like Grindhouse and Snakes on a Plane have previously shown us, there is a larger audience out there who don't check up on daily movie news via the Web. From the start this graphic novel wasn't a known property like Spider-Man or Batman, so name recognition (on a wide scale) wasn't really there.

Above all Scott Pilgrim by nature (the quirky reference-heavy dialogue, the odd visuals, the outlandish characters) only appeal to a select audience (however passionate they are) and the promos evidently didn't help to persuade many newcomers.

Hopefully Scott Pilgrim finds its true home on DVD/Blu-ray - most of those who saw it (myself included) were and still are singing its praises.
