Schwarzenegger Returns Predator 3Back in the 1980′s action movies used to be all action and very little talk. It was great, but these days it just seems like people talk about action movies and very little happens. Just look at the two Alien Vs Predator movies – great concept but a bit lacking on the execution.

Fans of both franchises have longed to see Sigourney Weaver return as Ellen Ripley (has it really been 11 years since Alien 4 ?) and Arnold Schwarzenegger reprise his role as Dutch from the original Predator. While Weaver has noted interest in another Alien film (along with Ridley Scott) it looked like there was no chance of seeing Arnold back in the camouflage fighting alien hunters in Predator 3.

Not so says Predator producer John Davis…

Davis says that he has talked to Schwarzenegger and the star has shown an interest in returning to films – if he doesn’t continue with his political career when his Governorship is over. Davis said:

“Well, the Governor has mentioned to me that when he ceases to be Governor, if he doesn’t run for the Senate and all of that stuff, he’d like to do a movie or two again. And I don’t know, maybe we could restart the Predator franchise.”

When pressed by Frosty at Collider.com for further details the producer said:

“Well we’d have to come up with a really good script and a really great angle on it, but Predator was the first movie I was ever involved with, so it’s always going to have a really soft spot in my heart.”

While not a confirmation that Schwarzenegger would be starring in another Predator film, it doesn’t look that it’s out of the realm of possibility. Also, now that it looks like the Terminator franchise has moved on without him, the aging action star may want to star in a sequel to another classic film with “brand name recognition.”

Moviehole points out that a couple of years ago a spec (non-sanctioned) script did the rounds that featured Dutch battling a Predator in a snowy New York, but alas nothing ever came of it.

However, with this new information giving us a new hope –  might Arnold really be back?

Wouldn’t that be cool!

  1. Nothing against Arnold, but have you seen him lately? He’s a little long in the tooth and wide in the waist to be playing Dutch in an action movie. Maybe if he sits in his study and passes the torch to someone else, yeah. But I can’t see (don’t want to see) the guy running around the jungle showing off his bouncing flab. Stallone kept himself in action-hero shape and was convincingly able to knock out a Rocky and a Rambo. Arnold is another story.

  2. I can imagine now, the insane press and hype over an Arnold-lead Predator movie. I’m sure it would destroy the box office.

I’d say, bring him back and make it rated R.

  3. Holy crap! this is very exciting news, I hope it’s going to happen, I personally think Predator has some of Ol’ Arnies best acting. at the end of Predator, when he is standing in the aftermath of the explosion, I almost cried (well not really). probably one of my favorite movies though. with Rambo 5 in the works, I have no doubt predator 3 would be kick@$$. unless or course they make it PG-13. it must be R.

  4. Feo, he’s a body builder, the SECOND he stops working out and training he’ll get that way. That’s just the consequence of that body type. He can get back into shape by training, and he’s done it before. He was in pretty bad (although not as bad) shape prior to Terminator 3, and when he did that, I think he was actually BIGGER than when he was in Terminator 2… Although that didn’t do much to improve the movie, but it shows what is possible. Arnold knows how to train and get in shape, he just doesn’t have the time while he is Governor.

    Three letters – CGI :)

  6. Hey Ken!

You look at screenshots of Arnold in T3 and shots of him in T2, you can really see the body difference.

And that’s another thing. The whole Governor deal. It’s over (term limits) in 2010, when Arnold will be 63. It is one thing for Stallone, who never stopped weight lifting, but that’s quite an age for Arnold to rebuild from all over again.

I’m not saying it couldn’t happen, or that Arnold isn’t up to it. But damn! That would take some serious time and some serious work! If that movie ever happens, better be looking toward 2013 before it hits the theaters.

  7. Hey INK,

    CGI? Dude! CGI?

    For pity’s sake!

  8. He could get back in shape easy, you guys know about working out I’m sure, but Arnold has a lot more knowledge than you, no offense. also it’s not like The Terminator franchise, he doesn’t have to look tip top shape, as his character would have aged anyways. there is absolutely no reason they can’t make this movie.

  9. @Patrick

LOL, how old are you bro? Sure, Ahnuld knows what to do and his body responds to bodybuilding but the man is 61 years old. The body does NOT respond as quickly or with as much vigor to weight training at that age as compared to 31.

He mentioned how brutal it was to get in shape for T3.

Believe me, it is a LOT harder for me to stay in shape now than it used to be, and I’m a ways away from his age. :-P

  10. I would love to see a new Alien movie, and it would be awesome if Ridley would go back to his original concept for Aliens. For those who don’t know, in the original teaser trailer for Aliens, the narrator says that the Aliens come to Earth, but apparently because of budget constraints this never came to light. Nowadays, it could become a reality if this sees the light of day.

  11. I think people are missing the point slightly! How do we know at this moment whether Arnold can get in shape or not (although I think he probably can!).
Surely everybody would be excited to see a proper action star back on the big screen and at the end of the day his films speak for themselves.

  12. Ok, well maybe not easily, but he could, and I’m talking in shape, not Mr. Universe. as I said it’s not like he needs to be a huge tough young looking guy for his role to work. it would not just be him vs predator either, they would probably have him leading a team since he has prior knowledge of how the predator operates, or something along those lines. I hope you guys don’t treat my opinion differently since I am 18…

  13. If this had been done 15 years ago it would have been awesome but now it is just another missed opportunity for Arnold, like True Lies 2, Eraser 2, and The 7th Day…okay the last two were not missed opportunities but blessings they never happened but I think if he does return to any of his potential franchises it would have to be as a supporting character…Hey let’s face it they had support for Indy with Shia’s character (one interpretation of the character I guess) but Arnold is no Indiana…

  14. (This post contains harsh sarcasim) 8-)

The problem I have with Predator, and Alien films, is that there just repainting the same old vehicle over and over again…
(Dutch battles the predatator in a snowy N.Y,,, ). Hasn’t that been done like 500 gazzillion times.

Here’s the tougher question,,, How will this impact the AvP, films… ? This could ruin Predator canon BiG TiME…

I’m torn between seeing him become a stooge politician or a bloated old actor. Damn,,,
I need some time to think about this…
    ^
CGI, I thought it was CSI,
CSI Predator, ??? We saw the Predator covering up his tracks in AvP,R…
I’m thinking spin-off tv show… The Predator could kill off David Caruso’s character, they hunt him down and he makes a deal that he will use his deadly powers to track down the citys worst of the worst. This could lead to the inevitable Batman vs Predator film.
(How funny would it be to see a skull with those Caruso shades). Heehee.

Could be as awesome as the John Connor growing years ??? Oh I mean Sarah Connor. Well prob not as great but real close, if they air it on Fridays.

Man I’ve got to get a life,,,,,

  15. A skull in a Predator movie that is wearing Horatio Caine’s shades? Okay, I’m buying a ticket to that!

  16. Wouldn’t it be nice if Ridley Scott took over the AVP franchise and did it right? It still has the possibility of being really good. I remember a lot of excitement over a movie featuring both creatures when it looked like it could never happen. The comics were great. I’ve been really disappointed over the movies being basically garbage and ruining two monster movie icons.

  17. Wow, why is it when we’re talking Predator, or Aliens, someone always have to bring up AVP?? Get over it, they are NOT canon. Damn I wish they would have never put that alien skull in Predator 2… Leave AVP to video games and comics.

  18. Ken J, you must have missed my disclaimer…

  19. They missed the best opportunity when they didn’t tap him (Arnold), and Danny Glover with Sigourney Weaver for the ultimate “AVP” movie. Put Arnold in Alaska as retired military who becomes sheriff of some out-a-the-way place. Then Danny gets some last job before retirement of escorting some killer back to Alaska.. Throw in a situation where they get flung into the future on a predator ship, where they hook up with post “Alien Resurrection” Ripley, trying to keep the Aliens from taking over Earth or some other mission, and you got the worst idea for a movie ever. The movie would’ve eaten such a huge hole in the studio that they would’ve went bankrupt and the “WatchMen” would be a non issue :-P I bet you all thought I was serious huh.. :D

  20. Old Man,,,,,
    I love it !!!
    Great idea,,,, wtf!

That’s more original than what the studios are putting out…

Having both Glover, and the 101 in there would add total realism to the film.

  21. Great news about Big Arnie…so what if he’s 61…he’s a star and would give the Pred movie a well deserved kick-up-the-bum so long as it all ties into-relates to the origional film…20 odd years on.He could never act the same action scenes from his first outing and no-one would expect him to,but it would be brilliant to have his return.
But a Prd/Alien movie with him and Weaver both teaming up for a proper..thought out film could be a good idea too,but with other younger big name stars that can act out the action!

  22. Maybe Uma Thurman and Christian Bale, that could be super interesting and it HAS TO BE rated R.

  23. Well I dont see him doing any roles where he has to be physical! Cause the last picture i seen of him he looked like the ugliest fates that he ever has been! He would need a total MAKEOVER and tummy tuck to do this!

However I do like him as an actor! But that is in the movies before he became governor! He should have stuck with movies and maybe he would be in better shape right now!

  24. Come on guys. Arnold doesn’t have to be a bodybuilder to be a good character in the third Predator film. As the second film proved, it’s a little more suspenseful when the protagonist isn’t a gung-ho strongman. Arnold could be old and retired and living somewhere with nightmares of what happened in the jungle way back when, then he finds out the Predators have returned to hunt him – that would be a fun story, regardless of his body type.

  25. @Phil, your totally right on!!!

I could see Arnold in the role of a Military CIA leader type that has to deal with them,,!!!

    This could be epic!
    8-)
    Stick around,,,

  26. ” Cause the last picture i seen of him he looked like the ugliest fates that he ever has been!”

Yeah Jessica, past long term steroid use, open heart surgery, combined with age, good livin, and trying to run a state governorship will do that to ya..

I wonder given his heart condition how hard he could train? I guess we might find out..

  27. Arnold is the new Shatner,,,

    Its a paradox.

  28. All of his muscle has gone to his gut, it’s just waiting for a sequel so it can be dispersed back to his arms….bring on Predator 3!!!

  29. 2010
