Scanners Remake On The Horizon

Apr 10, 2007 by

Michael Ironside as Revok in the original Scanners movieAccording to Sci Fi Wire, David Goyer is working on the screenplay for a remake (Gah! Not another remake!!!) of David Cronenberg’s classic horror flick Scanners.

Goyer, who wrote the very cool Batman Begins and the freaking awesome Dark City, but also wrote the awful Blade Trinity says he’s a big fan of the original Scanners. Being a fan of the source material is always a good thing, in my book.

“I’m a huge Cronenberg fan, and Scanners was definitely one of my favorite films as a kid… What we’re trying to do is take all the best elements of that. … He obviously made it on a shoestring budget, so this time hopefully we can expand upon what he did.”

“Shoestring budget” is putting it mildly. Although I really love the original, I actually think that if done right it would be really cool to see an updated version of the story. Although I don’t know who they could find to replace the incredibly cool menace that Michael Ironside brought to the role of Revok. :-)

They’re shooting for early 2008 for the start of production on Scanners.
