sanctuary Sanctuary Renewed for a 3rd Season

Despite offing Ashey (Emilie Ullerup) in the beginning of the 2nd season, the Syfy Channel has renewed Sanctuary for a 3rd season.  Syfy has ordered 20 episodes.  Cool beans, gang!

Despite the core fan base being pretty upset about Ashley’s death in Sanctuary, not enough folks tuned out.  The show averaged around 2.2 million viewers in the 7-day DVR viewing ratings.  That was enough to get the show its third season.

Right now they’re filming Sanctuary in Vancouver, and I think it’s time to hold the creative forces accountable.

When they offed Ashley, the fan backlash was pretty volatile.  At one point the idea of possibly bringing Ashley back was broached, though it didn’t sound too serious.

As it stands, Emilie Ullerup has already landed a role in a web series called Riese The Series as Aliza.  So if somehow the creative forces try to pull Emilie back in, how is that going to work?  Ah… indeed.  Obviously money is probably better on a network project, but what would Emilie do if the situation arose?  I guess first Syfy would have to remove their skull cap from a dark place and get Ashley back in the action, like fans want.

For now, we know there’s a 3rd season of Sanctuary.  Let’s see what happens.  Who’s with me on wishing Ashley back?

  1. I wasn’t happy when Ashley was killed off but I wasn’t furious, it’s not as if it’s the end of the world. She had to leave the show for personal reasons and she’s now only working a few things due to a illness. I think it’s fair enough she went, actors don’t want to do the same thing forever and characters have to die. Personally I can’t wait for the new season, and if you going to be put of by something such as a characters death (especially one you like) then you should never watch TV ever. It’s not real, it happens, get over it.

    • While I’m here, I thought I would clear up some things. She did not leave for personal reasons, they let her go before she was aware of her health issues. Amanda Tapping has been quoted many times that she fought the decision but the decision came down from the network or several sources depending on which article you read. I want to believe her but I truly believe that if this mysterious gang of people had insisted that Robin Dunne be fired, it wouldn’t have happened. Damian Kindler also said in an article that it was his decision, so which story is the truth? Yes it is their story and their right to hire and fire whomever they choose, but they really need to own it and move on. Why the mystery? I don’t like being mislead and lied to.
Not my only problem with season two by a long shot. You also said that if a person is going to be put off by a character’s death then they shouldn’t watch? I watch a show because of the characters. If I don’t care about what their journey is or what happens to them, I don’t care about the show enough to watch in the first place. No it’s not real, thank goodness but that’s another reason I watch tv, to be entertained and escape reality for a little while.
Sanctuary season one was not perfect and Ashley certainly needed some character development, which seemed like it was sure to happen. Season two became a chore to watch and to me seemed like even the writers had intended a different path than the one they ended up taking. It was disjointed and I guess they thought if they threw in a couple of heavy sobbing Helen episodes that we wouldn’t notice? I did notice and believe me I’m over it.

  2. ok folks really, enough with the ashley rant. it was a descent character played by a terrible actress. Kate on the other hand is great and the real focus of season three is no doubt going to be the reintroduction of the makri into Wil and thus his immortality and ability to see into the future. i for one can’t wait to see s3.

    • I agree, i will miss Ashley, but i thought season 2 was still great without her, and they haven’t even totally ruled out bringing her back, although i doubt they will, i wasn’t too keen on Kate at first, but she has grown on me, and i really like her, and i can’t wait for season 3.

      • I find it hilarious that most people are saying, “I didn’t like Kate at first but she’s grown on me”. It reminds of mold, which is pretty much what this character’s personality and storyline have brought to the show. If they were going to kill off one of the main characters, they should have at least hired an actor and a character that would be a benefit to the show and not hurt it in both content and in the ratings. My guess is that Tapping was wanting to make sure that she was the most beautiful woman on set again, which she accomplished.

  3. no it’s not enough with the Ashley rant. If Emilie didn’t leave by her self it was stupid to get rid of her. especially when Ashley just got the powers of the five. now that alone could have been base for some interesting stories. Instead we got a fat flying ****, and bollywood dancing. The Cabal just went puff! And who the hell kills off a main charactor after 1 season. Now I don’t belong to the group who want Kate gone. But I do want Ashley back.

Considering how new Emilie is in the business. I wouldn’t call her acting terrible. I don’t doubt we will see a whole lot more of her. Maybe not in Sanctuary, But then again. If Sanctuary doesn’t improve, there will be nothing to return to.

    • I would’t call her acting good either. Whether she is new or not doesn’t matter, unfortunately the film/tv industry is that if don’t get it right the first time then step aside and get off the screen. Season 2 was way more interesting and compelling to watch then season 1. The character of Ashley could have been good, but she is dead so get over it.

Kate is fine, could use some more polishing but more believable then Ashley. And Funny “Tapping was wanting to make sure was the most beautiful woman on set again”, firstly Emilie was nowhere the looker Tapping is and this new character eclipses her too.

  4. Does anyone have any idea when the third season is going to air on tv? Even an estimated date would be nice.

  5. For me it’s simple if there is no Ashley then I will not be watching.

  6. We want Ashley back!!!
