Beginning life in the 1970s as just a run of the mill genre convention, San Diego Comic-Con has grown over the ensuing decades into an absolute entertainment juggernaut. At this point, all the major movie, TV, game, and comic book studios – along with the A-list celebrities who often populate their products – gather every year like clockwork in order to get the chance to debut their latest hot properties and can’t miss prospects on the big SDCC stage to a crowd of adoring hardcore fans.
With SDCC’s 2016 festivities now in the books, that can naturally mean only one thing: it’s time to start looking forward to next year’s event! To that end, SDCC has confirmed the dates for its 2017 extravaganza, and those interested in attending are advised to make their plans early and begin watching like a hawk for ticket on-sale date announcements if they want to have any hope of witnessing the big blowout in person.
Comic-Con has become notorious for selling out fast, and as the event continues to grow, there’s no reason to expect that 2017’s tickets won’t sell out just as quickly. SDCC 2017 has been scheduled for July 20th-23rd, with preview night being held on July 19th. This is in-line with the normal scheduling pattern for the event, which typically takes place around the third week of July every year.
While it’s obviously too soon at this juncture to try and concretely predict what will be featured at next summer’s shindig, one can be sure that major players like Warner Bros. Pictures/DC and Netflix will make their presence felt in a big way, as will large franchises like Star Trek and The Walking Dead. All the biggest and best genre TV shows will undoubtedly pop up too, including Game of Thrones, Supernatural, and more. There is also sure to be lots of cool stuff for fans to look at and take pictures with, and lots of elaborate merchandise to spend one’s hard earned cash upon.
In the meantime, those on the East Coast have October’s New York Comic-Con event to look forward to; which, while not on the same event size-level as SDCC, is probably the closest thing the northeast has to it. It doesn’t tend to be quite as big overall, but it’s at least something to do until next year’s San Diego craziness. Some of the big name guests announced so far include Carrie Fisher, several cast members from Gotham, and Stan Lee in his final NYCC appearance.
San Diego Comic-Con 2017 takes place from July 19-23, 2017.
