@ the old man:

I can agree with the story not being the most in depth and developmental or groundbreaking premise, but I have to disagree with your wishes for a more upbeat story. The issue is just what you described, Afro is a character with a dismal past and future, he's trapped in a bloody circle of life and death, and for that reason he can't ever be happy. I mean, think about it, he avenged his father's death, achieved his goal in life, and the best he could do was go into exile (which was interrupted if you saw the movie). There can't be a happy ending for Afro.

@ Siberia:

Sameul L. Jackson is awesome :P Have you ever even watched Afro Samurai? He barely says anything at all :P

Andre Benjamin is 100% perfect for this role and he's great on screen.

Check him out in Semi-pro or even better, in Revolver where he was awesome.

The problem with Afro is that the story line isn't as rich as some of the other properties out there. It's a very, very basic revenge story and very gory. Season one did me in, because his past is pretty dismal and his future seems to be no better. Some dictionary probably has Afro's story in place of the definition of hopeless. That won't bother some, because Jackson's character comes off as having plenty of cool. I would hope that season two is better and that a live action show will get a denser, if not a slightly more upbeat story. :) Season one is already in stores. I saw it in a second hand store just yesterday.

"Wow, Dragonball, Cowboy Bebop, and now possibly Afro Samurai? Hollywood seems to be on a real anime kick."

You're forgetting Ghost in the Shell (Spielberg), Battle Angel Alita (Cameron), Akira, Monster, and Death Note. And probably many more to come.
