Apple and Samsung are two of the major forces in the smartphone industry. Apple started the touchscreen craze when it launched the iPhone in 2007, and Samsung released the first Galaxy S device soon after in 2010. Apple and Samsung market these devices as their most innovative smartphone lines, thereby attaching hefty price tags to them.

However, the two companies have seen the growing demand for affordable smartphones that offer some of the high-end specifications and began releasing models that specifically cater to those consumers. Apple released the iPhone 11 alongside the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max, while Samsung has the Galaxy S20 FE. Both devices are priced at $700, but which one offers the most value?

The iPhone 11 has a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina HD LCD display, with a resolution of 1792 x 828 at 326 pixels per inch (PPI). The Galaxy S20 FE has a 6.5-inch AMOLED display featuring 2400 x 1080 at 407 PPI. In addition to a larger screen and more vibrant colors, the Galaxy S20 FE includes a 120Hz display refresh rate, which creates ultra-smooth motions and transitions. The cameras of the iPhone 11 and Galaxy S20 FE capture amazing photos and videos. Although Samsung's device includes an extra 8-megapixel telephoto lens for 30x optical zoom and a 32-megapixel front-facing camera. At 4,500 mAh, the Galaxy S20 FE is also packing quite the battery.

Both devices include the processors of their higher-end siblings. The iPhone 11 includes the powerful and efficient A13 Bionic chip and third-generation Neural Engine; an advanced machine learning for processing augmented reality, images, and speech. The Galaxy S20 FE packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865. Present in most high-end Android phones, the Snapdragon 865 also supports 5G connectivity on the Galaxy S20 FE, thereby futureproofing the device. While the iPhone 11 and Galaxy S20 FE are priced at $700, it is important to note that the iPhone 11 only has 64GB of storage, though users can pay extra for the 128GB or 256GB models. The Galaxy S20 FE only sells as a 128GB model, but the storage is expandable up to 1TB via a microSD card.

Judging from the above, it seems the Galaxy S20 FE is the unanimous winner. However, the ecosystem plays a major role in a customer's purchasing decision. Users with Apple products, such as MacBook and Apple Watch, are going to have a difficult time switching to the Galaxy S20 FE because of the effortless integration within Apple's ecosystem. Likewise, consumers with previous Samsung and/or Android devices will most likely favor sticking with the more open platform.
