Is Sam Worthington the new Russell Crowe? By the looks of this first official image from Louis Letrrier’s forthcoming Clash of the Titans, Worthington is channeling Crowe in Gladiator for his role as Perseus.
When news of a Clash of the Titans remake was first announced (my very first Screen Rant story!), I was highly skeptical of this new interpretation of Ray Harryhausen’s classic. Now, after seeing his image of Worthington, I’m pretty excited. However, I have only one qualm…
Worthington’s sword and shield aren’t half as cool as Harry Hamlin’s in the 1981 original!

Pretty cool. While I really do love the original Clash of the Titans, I am willing to admit that it does have its flaws – Bubo being the main culprit. The remake was written by Lawrence Kasdan, the man behind Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Empire Strikes Back. (The Star Wars franchise definitely helped inspire the original Titans film, BTW: I mean what is Bubo besides a winged R2D2?)
And is it just me, or does Sam Worthington always seems to have the same hair in every film he’s in?
This new interpretation of Clash of the Titans has a cast that includes Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes, as well as James Bond stars Gemma Arterton and Mads Mikkelsen.
I’m now really looking forward to this film – but only if it doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Clash of the Titans opens on March 26, 2010.

Worthington looks badass in that picture.
I think we may be jumping the gun a bit. We haven’t seen much of him yet and we already have the next Harrison ford – it’s my boy bale.

Bale is the new Harrison Ford?? Harrison Ford is charismatic and silly in a funny way. Bale is serious, stiff, and robotic… Hm… Maybe not…
Looks like a massive improvement on the original so apparently at last we have a justified remake. Visually it reminds me of Edward Burne Jones’ paintings of the Perseus cycle, and that is a good thing.
What is this, a set pic for an extra from Troy? Everything is exact from the breast plate to the shield.
But I must say that Worthington makes a believing Achilles than Brad Pitt did. Considering Achilles in the Iliad was more rugged than pretty boy pin-up.
Bale is not the new Harrison Ford. There is no new Harrison Ford, like there will not be another Steve McQueen, Arnold the King, Stallone, Charles Bronson, or whatever. Bale is just Bale.
I hope it is good.

SAM WORTHINGTON FOR SUPERMAN.
The shield in the original had a shiny inner part that Perseus used to battle Medusa. I don’t see any shiny parts on Worthington’s shield. Maybe these are not the weapons the gods will give him? Also, Bubo should look and act like the one from the original initially just give a nod to it, then get damaged and then upgraded. I wonder if Hamlin will have a cameo.
Bubo should be an actual owl. Having a robot machine owl just feels weird in a mythical fantasy movie.

In the original, the goddess was suppose to give him the real owl but refuses. What I would like to see is the robotic owl at first and then, maybe, give him a real owl after the robotic one gets destroyed.
Just goin out on a limb here, but maybe sam worthington could play the Captain America in the new upcoming movies.
Ohh cmon! Those who said the shield and sword are messed up havent noticed that the guy was fighting before this SS, or you think he going arround all dirty aswell? Also… would be much more realistic if the sword and shield get some dirt..
