This is crazy to discuss. There should be NO question to whether Mary Jane Watson, played only by Kirsten Dunst, should be in the next Spider-Man movies. If Tobey is in, Kirsten should be in as well. PERIOD. Those two actors made the Spider-Man franchise what it is today. Doesn't everybody remember the first teaser trailer for Spider-Man 2? The first thing you saw was Mary Jane asking "Do you love me?" And then the split second that you saw Tobey as Peter Parker you instantly knew it was time for the next Spider-Man movie. The two of them have made the roles of Peter and MJ iconic. Nobody should replace one of them if one is already on board. It should be either they are both in or they are both out. Sure, things ended on a weird note for Peter and MJ and that is all the more reason why they both should come back to resolve the issues. They are still in love and have had a setback. We all need to see them make up and get back together and see how their relationship will work. For those of you that don't think their relationship is important, just look back at the first 3 films: it was the staple the movies were built on. To pursue a story in the direction of Gwen Stacey would be to lose the impact of a good story and have to try to make up for it somewhere else like in adding too many special effects. Everyone can name a dozen movies that had awesome special effects and were duds because they didn't have a good story. I think if Sony and Marvel want to make GOOD Spider-Man 4 and 5 movies, they need to continue where 3 left off and go from there. And then, because 4 and 5 will likely be all that can be done with Maguire, Dunst and Raimi, after that they can reinvent the Spider-Man movies in any way they want to. But if it's going to continue after 3, there needs to be the one person who Peter has always loved to bring him back around and that is MJ. I hope that important people in Sony read this. I also hope that fans out there would try and pull for a good movie plot instead of eye candy that has no center. Raimi did not say that Dunst was out, and I don't want the ones who are making the movie to get any bad ideas like that us, the fans, want her out also. I want more Spider-Man movies, but I want them to be good. So far, they've been pretty darn good. There was a little weirdness in 3 (even though for the most part it was still great), but let's move on and move forward and pick it back up just like where 1 and 2 and anticipation of 3 had us enthralled. And I want the villains to make good sense with the story lines too. :)

"Nobody cares about whether or not Dunst comes back!"

If only blog-reading comicbook nerds made up most of the movie-goer population. Almost every one I've asked about Dunst, including those who hated the third film, said they would love to see her in the next movie and would be disappointed if she weren't in it.

What killed Spidey 3 for me was how the symbiote-controlled Peter Parker was such an unconscionable...(*insert image of southbound end of northern-facing mule*)-hole; that, and the apparent fascination the symbiote seemed to have in trying to make Pete an emo version of Tony Manero from "Saturday Night Fever".

"Is it just me or is Sony just flat-out ignoring the requests from fans regarding how to handle Spider-Man 4?"

And they do well to. Fandom is what got us Venom last time. Sometimes what you want isn't what you'd like as a result.

I've never understood the depth of the hostility towards the third film. The only problem I had with it was the mishandling of Venom, who really should have been held off until a fourth movie, leaving the third movie to set-up that storyline. Other than that, though, I really enjoyed the third movie. I thought it handled the main characters well, and I've got no complaints on that score.

I'm looking forward to the fourth movie, and I hope they build on what they've done with the previous three.

I don't think Sony is listening to the online chatter because S3 made a ton of cash, broke records etc...

If the Spider Man films start loosing money then maybe. :-)
