You can chalk this up to a slow news-day.

Director Sam Raimi recently spoke with the MTV Movies Blog discussing the status of Spider-Man 4. Granted we've heard these type of quotes before. But I digress, ladies and germs...

When asked about the rumors that two Spider-Man sequels will be filmed concurrently, Raimi explained:

"It's Amy Pascal's decision. I don't think it has been decided yet, and she's the one that's really going to make that decision; I'm really curious myself."

Um, OK. Thanks, Sam.

So, what about the script (that last we checked) was being penned by Zodiac screenwriter James Vanderbilt?

"I don't have a script yet, but production would start probably by March of 2010, I'm guessing. It sounds like a long time away, but we need a script first, and a lot of pre-production has to take place."

Am I the only one wondering just where the hell Vanderbilt's script is? It's been just about a year since he was hired to pen the script. And yet, we've heard damn-near nothing from the studio regarding the matter.

Considering he was given the gig about a week or so before the WGA Strike began and that issue has been resolved since February, shouldn't Vanderbilt have already turned in something? Anything?

Speaking of annoying, Raimi had this to say about the potential return of Kirsten Dunst as webhead's favorite red-head Mary Jane Watson:

"I hope she'll be written into it. I couldn't imagine making one without her, and I think she's an important part of the movies."

I've said before and I'll say it again: Nobody cares about whether or not Dunst comes back!

Is it just me or is Sony just flat-out ignoring the requests from fans regarding how to handle Spider-Man 4?

Say what you will about Superman. But at least Warner Brothers is making it a point to listen to the fanbase, working closely with DC Comics and promising to "deliver the goods" on the forthcoming Superman reboot film. That kind of stuff is encouraging to us fans.

Audiences got badly burnt by Spider-Man 3, and Sony would be smart to take note. And as of now, they haven't.

Spider-Man 4 is currently aiming for a May 2011 release.
