Why not do a throwaway villain that has been instrumental in causing crossovers, like M.O.D.O.K.? You could create a story around Virus X. Substitute Namor for Spider-Man or just add him to the mix with Cap. and The Thing. Really go anywhere that would bring a team up out, so as to get Spider-Man positioned for an "Avengers" movie plot. If the first "Avengers" movie does well then bring Spider-Man in on the second movie. This way you have a choice if the Antman movie doesn't get made. He'd be an alternate anyway...

    @ theoldman

Spiderman's film rights are owned by Sony so I don't think Spidey will make an appearance in an Avengers film in the next few(10) years..unless MArvel/Disney and SOny do a studio crossover

    @ greenknight333

Is Spider-Man 5 & 6 supposed to be sequels after the 4th? Kinda like how Superman Returns is considered to take place after Superman 2. Because why would they go along with calling them Spider-man 5 & 6 if they plan to reboot?
  • Rob
    @ chrisj,

My guess is that those aren't official names of the movies yet, at least until they get contracted actors for the movie.

Or, even if they recast, they could continue James Bond style and just skip the origins, going forward with new villains. In that case, they could continue the numbering scheme.

As far as we know, they're being written as interconnected sequels that, if needed, could act as a reboot of sorts. I think Vanderbilt is just starting on these so it may be a while before we get details.
  • chrisj
    @ Rob
Aslong as they continue the franchise, i dont care if they recast the main actors.Aslong as they get good actors and a great script id be happy. Kinda like how Val Kilmer replaced Michael Keaton who i thought was better but Kilmer did a good job playin Batman.
  • I hope he doesn't directed 4 and 5. Hell, he shouldn't be directintg 4. "Spider-man 3" showed us that Raimi is exhausted and that we need a new director.
  • Steve
He should stop with 4 if they are planning to reboot. If they continue, I think you have to have good talks about that because you don't want to destroy it like with the batman series switching directors every movie (and batman too). Just reboot it and go with a new cast/director for 5-8 or whatever.
  • chrisj
    @ Steve
I agree with ya. Id like to see Raimi continue till he feels like he's done. Then Sony can decide to continue with a director or reboot. Save the reboot idea when all else fails. Like you said we dont want another downfall like the Previous Batman franchise, except Batman Forever was good. It was the last film that killed the franchise.
  • Evan
    word.

He should have first dibs on 5 & 6. If four is awesome, (I have a feeling it will be), then we all maybe singing a different song.

It really depends on when they want to introduce Carnage. That will probably be when Rami leaves, lol.
  • M-Cat
Let's just wait and see how the fourth movie turns out before deciding to bring back Raimi. He screwed up the third movie pretty good so wait it out i say.
  • M-Cat
Restart the franchise with the fifth movie and bring in a new director. Talk all you want about the fourth movie making money but any spiderman movie will bring in $250 million or more no matter who directs it.
  • Evan
I am giving Rami the benefit of the doubt. Spider-Man 4 will show us whether or not the old adage is true:

"Fool me once (Spider-Man 3), shame on you. Fool me twice (Spider-Man 4), shame on me."
  • Adrian
Raimi learned off of spiderman 3 i dont think he can mess spiderman 4 up. I think he should do the 4th one while gary ross indroduces venom correctly in its solo movie and then have Raimi direct the 5th with spidey vs venom 1 on 1. After all venom is spider's worst enemy.
  • John K.
ok, i`ll ask nicely, PLS stop the venom spinoff but u SHOULD`VE ended at 4 movies, with venom carnage, and lizard. now i think u ruined this franchise even more after the third one.
  • neontiger21
Screenrant should have a fantasy casting article for a new Peter Parker/Spider-man! I can't think of any off-hand, but it's fun to read those articles and see how different actors would fit.

Hey greenknight333, Well, maybe that is a bad example but you never know, stranger things have happened. That's a good point though and I wonder when Sony's licensing agreement expires? If Marvel's aim is to have stronger links between their characters they do need to start somewhere. Just thought the idea at least needed some discussion. Crossovers usually happen when their's market demand or story imperative. Ultimately making the story as interesting as possible and it's to the benefit of both parties will things like this happen.
  • Ricky07
I think I don't understand when they say reboot, does that means that they will have a new cast, with new actors and director , or does that means they will restart the franchise from the zero I hope not, does that mean all it happen in spiderman 1,2 and 3 will be erased, I think that will be awful, a disaster, I will not even want to see those movies, and people will be tired of many origins stories, you can not just throw away a franchise so good, original and lucrative, not perfect but very good, the third one had many problems, but If the fourth is good nobody will remember about the third, please Sony make sequels and don"t stop, what s the reason to make spiderman 1,2,3,4 and then go 1,2,3,4 again, start the franchise and then finish it when there s no more stories left, that s how franchise should be treated, unless you have something like Batman and Robin, I really think they should make many changes for the next installament, I would like to see a more mature and darker version, not like The Dark knight, but a little more real, with an adult diologue
  • John K.
Well they screwed up the franchise, they used to extreme with making things happen too fast in the series.
  • chrisj
    @ Ricky07
It would be nice if they treated superhero franchises in the same manner as James Bond 007. Im not a big James Bond fan or anything but i asked one of my friends if all the films were somehow connected and he said they were. Picture doin that with today's comic book hero films. Keep the same director till the movies dont meet up to studio's expectations and then bring in a new director w/ new cast that would continue on the franchise. A little example is Batman & Robin itself, it met studios expections in box office draws but received so much negative reviews that the already planned 5th film was canceled. It was too bad cause the studio was gonna go back to the darkness Tim Burton's film had etc. But for a fanchise like X-Men, imagine takin the same idea from James Bond franchise and see how many films they could make outta the comics. Not just X-men, but any super hero franchise. Just a idea.

That's what's often times different about a single author's book series and a comic book series. For the most part Flemming's work was his and that does make a difference. No work for hire issue, no big company that lays claim to rights in other mediums etc, etc. Yeah if you ever have a good story idea write it in a book or script form first or make sure you have a good lawyer. It doesn't mean you always get your way. Flemming didn't care for Sean Connery playing James Bond, but the less fingers in the pie the better.

I think it also benefited the Bond films to have a relatively small dedicated group producing the product, rather than a big corporate monster calling the production shots. Here again though, that's no guarantee for a good movie. The Bond series has had its critical stinkers and divisive movies. You have to accept the experienced truism "It's a miracle any movie gets made." I didn't invent the saying but it holds a certain compelling nature... ;)
  • Mike 19
Ya, we should just wait and see how the fourth turns out. It will probably be good though. It be cool if he actually goes and does the last two, completing the saga. Maybe he'd work out the Sinister Six along the way like he said.
  • chrisj
    @ Mike 19
I cant wait to find out whos the villain/villains in the 4th film. I myself would hope Raimi and everyone also film 5&6. They might aswell and just complete the saga and then give the studio a break and let things calm down, and then reboot if the fans want more of spidey. Id love to see the Sinister Six, its one way for the franchise to end with a bang. My suggestion would be ethier in the 4th film or the others to introduce Felicia Hardy and later have her become Black Cat and possibly help Spider-Man take down the Sinister Six. It would be easy to involve her knowing her relationship w/ Morbius.
  • John K.
WOOOw, easy guys, we shouldn`t be jumping out to random villains we found interesting in the comics, think about what would be weird and what would be inverse.
  • Mike 19
    @chrisj

I would like Black Cat to appear in the new trilogy as well, and the whole Morbias twist with it could be good. But I don't know if they are really gonna use him as a villian though. Anyway I can't wait to hear more news soon.
  • chrisj
    @ Mike 19
True about Morbious. As for a actress for Felcia Hardy/Black Cat, id say Rachel McAdams, Laura Vandervoort, or even Scarlett Johansson would be perfect. With Scarlett being busy w/ Marvel films on the way she might be too busy, so my 2nd choice would be Rachel McAdams.
  • John K.
have you not seen the first 3 movies.
  • The Pitt Man
    @vic or rob

how about this for next week's poll? Who could direct spidey 5? or who wil be the next peter parker?
  • chris
I saw just stop doing spider-man 4 and start over like they did with batman, spider-man could be so much more Bad A! And like the graphic novels and comics spider-man was awesome action, fighting, a lil darker, more like what everyone wants to see they just need to stop butchering the superhero and start over and do it right, they need someone like me to give them advice of what they should put in the movie and then let them figure the rest out.
