Look, I don’t want to go on a rant, here. I really don’t. I am generally a wimpy person who would rather avoid confrontation and read movie-news. But the endless line of movies, shows, books, etc. that are “religiously insulting” are really starting to grate on me. I am a Christian. I know a lot of Christians. We can be as irritating as the rest of humanity, but that’s because we are HUMAN. I am human. I enjoy movies, read books, think, and have bad days as well as good ones. I don’t claim to be perfect, and nobody else I know does either! That’s not the point of our faith, as it is so often misrepresented.
I know the Bible itself says that Christians and Jews will probably be picked on more than people of other persuasions, but when you say “religiously insulting,” are you talking about Hinduism? Islam? Basic paganism? Or are you just talking about Christianity? Would this movie be as awesome if it WERE making fun of any of those other religions? What if it were Allah and Islam that were being blasphemed? Hollywood wouldn’t dare doing such a thing, much less movie-theaters showing it for fear of some sort of extremist group blowing it up. (Note that I said EXTREMIST, not Muslim, so don’t be flaming me about it.)
So some misguided psychopaths go after abortion doctors/clinics. I have yet to see any Christians, or people who call themselves so, riot in the streets because of a cartoon that blasphemed our God, and our beliefs, like what happened in Europe a few years ago. Write the newspaper? Maybe. Line up and protest? Maybe. If we feel energetic, yeah.
I personally think standing outside of theaters and protesting a frikin’ movie is nonsense, but I know people sometimes do it. But can you blame them? Imagine being on a school playground, and the local bullies keep picking on you mercilessly for wearing unpopular clothes. You’d want to protest, too, but you may or may not for fear of being beaten up. Maybe the clothes do look really stupid. But it’s your right to wear them, isn’t it?
Just providing a different point of view. Carry on!

The best comic i ever read. Also the most religiously insulting. I can already image lines and lines of offended christians protesting the film

I love this book! I tend to get weary with films being made of these great books (Incl.Watchmen), becuase they are so long and it is so hard to put it all into one movie. I agree, an HBO series may have been a better route. We’ll see as we get details on it’s development. I’m not sure about Marsden playing the role, I would really like to see them get someone really really good. I would like to see someone like Josh Brolin in the roll. I haven’t heard ir the Jonah Hex film ins still a go, but if it isn’t that would be my choice.

I never was crazy about Preacher, it crossed the line for me as far as the subject matter. Won’t be seeing this one.
