Apple is on a roll today as not only did it premier the new trailer for The A-Team (which we posted earlier) but it’s also got the latest trailer for the new Angelina Jolie action film, Salt. You can check out the trailer below.

Jolie stars as Evelyn Salt, a CIA officer who goes on the run after she is accused of being a Russian spy. Here’s the official synopsis:

As a CIA officer, Evelyn Salt swore an oath to duty, honor and country. Her loyalty will be tested when a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy. Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture. Salt’s efforts to prove her innocence only serve to cast doubt on her motives, as the hunt to uncover the truth behind her identity continues and the question remains: “Who is Salt?”

Check out the newest Salt trailer. I think it really does improve on the first one (Warning: The trailer does seem to give away some MILD SPOILERS):

You can watch the trailer in HD over at Apple.

I like the parts at the beginning and end of the trailer where it rewinds everything that you’ve seen. I know it’s been done before (both in trailers and within movies themselves) but I thought it was effective for this movie.

Although some of the action is way over-the-top (such as Salt jumping onto a truck traveling at high speed), Jolie still impresses in a leading role. I don’t think it’s going to be the type of heavyweight acting we’ve seen her give in recent films like Changeling and A Mighty Heart, but this shows she can be diverse in her choice of roles (in the very same year she did both Changeling and Wanted, for example).

The dramatic actor and the action star – what more could you possibly want?

The interesting thing about Salt is the fact that the lead role was originally written as a man and was even set to be played by Tom Cruise at one point. However, Jolie was then brought in to replace Cruise and the script was rewritten to account for the change in gender.

Thoughts on the new trailer for Salt? Do you think Jolie makes a good action star?

Along with Jolie, Salt co-stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Liev Schreiber. It’s directed by Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games) and written by Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium) and Brian Helgeland (Green Zone, Robin Hood). The film opens in theaters on July 23rd, 2010.

  1. I agree its an improvement on the first and I also like the rewind touch. It leaves the impression that we can expect something different. Some new twists, maybe a different treatment, and a more ambiguous lead character.

  2. The first trailer intrigued me, as this one also did. I was alway in love with good spy movies, this is maybe a bit more filled with action, but I'm looking forward to it.

  3. Looks alright. I think I'll catch this one, when it hits the theaters …

  4. Chiwetel Ejiofor has got to be one of my favorite actors…red belt, children of men, dirty pretty things…serenity. Im pumped for this movie cause i believe it has a wonderful cast…now if only we could get C.E. to play the Black Panther in the upcoming Avengers Movie.

  5. I've hated Jolie ever since she gave up on Wanted 2

  6. I thought the actor who played the African assassin in Mummy 2 was already set to play Black Panther?

I also like CE; I think his acting was one of the best parts of 2012.

  7. This looks pretty stupid in my opinion. I like how they still included that lame wall jump from the first trailer (1:46 mark).

  8. Both trailors have me hooked. The casting is brilliant, non stop action and a serious plot with enough twists to keep the adrenalin running. Angelina Joli has an action resume to rival most of her male counterparts. She has always been drawn to danger and trains hard for these roles. Life mimicks art for her, she is a pilot; knows her guns from her rifles; handles knives with finesse; rides a motorbike and is fearless when it comes to doing her own stunts. I read an article where the stunt director said Angelina did the jump from the bridge onto the truck; hung from a 10 storey building, jumped from one moving vehicle to another and used her kickboxing skills to advantage. Knowing the actor falling from a bridge is not a double really will add authenticity to this movie. Add to this some hot sex scenes and you have all he ingredients for one of the best action movies yet. I’m hanging out for it to come to the theatre in July-August.
