Actors:To Strike Or Not To Strike?

SAG strikeAFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Actors) has voted to ratify their contract with the studios and producers (AMPTP, Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers). They won’t be striking, which is a big relief. But what happens now with the main actors union, SAG (Screen Actors Guild)?

Well, many members of AFTRA are also members of SAG, and this sends a message that they don’t want a strike to happen. It is well known an Actors Strike would cripple the film and television industry, almost completely, except for select deals SAG made with independent film producers.

The Writers’ Strike cost Hollywood $2 billion, so it’s clear an Actors’ Strike would cost double or triple that number. Some shows and movies were still in production during the Writers’ Strike, but that’s not the case with a potential Actors’ Strike: Hollywood would be effectively shut down.

SAG is now feeling the pressure to sit back down with the AMPTP and get a deal resolved as quickly as possible, and I can assure you the studios and producers are feeling that pressure too. Again, a strike will hurt everyone involved. It is being reported that SAG may sign the deal with the AMPTP by end of business todahy (July 10, 2008).

We’ll have another update when and if SAG and the AMPTP come to an agreement.

  1. That’s good news. There definately should not be a strike. I think the Writer’s strike actually had some legitamacy and support of the public with how writers were not getting any from internet tv showings and getting pretty much nothing from DVD sales. I’m not sure the actors would get such support, especially movie actors.

  2. Good news Heath, keep the updates a comming. ;-)

These strikes have sucked the mojo out of this town.

  3. I swear to God if they strike I’m going to cancel my membership to Netflix and never go to another movie theater. I’m sick of these vain, arrogant people who don’t consider what they are doing to the thousands of people who will lose their jobs and the economy of California.

  4. Hollywood is controlled by bigots.

Who on earth cares about the Hollywood elite?

Of course, Tom Hanks is against a strike. He wants to continue making his millions and starring in garbage like Angels and Demons.

My feeling is the actors should strike to make up for the loss of all the DVD sales.

Don’t get deceived. Hollywood controls the news, TV, movies, magazines, books – almost everything you watch.

They are run by people who hate everyone but their own ethnicity. They’re manipulators of your mind to help them selfishly gain an advantage over everyone else.

They cleverly build ‘Intolerance Museums’ when they’re the most intolerable people on the planet.
