This will no doubt make many Deadpool fans happy but at the same time, this is a very risky move to try this in a big budget comic-book film. It will certainly make the movie unique and stand-out amongst others in the genre but can they pull it off and make it work for the mainstream movie-goers?
Reynolds has star-power and I have a feeling there will be at least one other talented and bankable actor in the cast down the road to help out (whether that’s a villain, an ally or even the character Cable whom he shared a comic series with for several years). I have faith in him doing this as he’s incredible in action and in comedy and he is the living incarnation of Wade Wilson. Good on him for going for it.
It could be awesome, or it could be an epic failure of a gimmick that average moviegoers and critics simply won’t get. He’s got my support in trying though and I’m excited to see how they utilize it. It always helps that the main dude behind it all is a fan at heart himself. How does he feel about making a film based on comics that has a hardcore fanbase to impress?
“I’m one of them. I’ve always been a fan, at least for the last eight or nine years. I feel a bit of validation because I knew going into Wolverine that there’s a huge fanbase for this and I don’t think anyone else did.”
We’re calling it Deadpool for now as it’s not officially titled, but there’s a good chance they’ll continue with the current naming scheme to keep the brand recognition and go with X-Men Origins: Deadpool. When that happens, Screen Rant will let you know.
As for the current status of the project, they’re still working out a script and searching for a director to helm the project. Reynolds re-iterated that their main goal is to make the movie as close to the comics as possible.
To finish off, here’s one of the most awesomest quotes I’ve heard in a long while, originating from the same interview Reynolds had with IGN where he confirmed the Deadpool costume:
“We’re just trying to get it right. There’s so many variables to play. It’s tough because when you have a character like Deadpool, to the greatest extent of your power, you want to bring as much authenticity to that character as possible. And by “authenticity,” I don’t mean that you’d want to make him somebody that you’d have a Starbucks coffee with, I mean that you want to make him as close to the comics as possible. And there’s nothing that I wouldn’t do to make sure that ends up on film, but sometimes things are out of your control, things that you can’t change. But I’m really happy, in these early talks, that the studio is as obsessed with making it as close to the comic book source material as possible. And that’s all I really needed to hear. Cuz I will husk-f*@k a herd of cattle to bring Wade Wilson to life as the real deal.”

My oldest memory of Deadpool is where he complains to Black Tom Cassidy (whom he recently beat severely) to quit bleeding on him. Can’t wait.
Breaking the 4th wall could work if its in the form of Fight Club, they broke the 4th wall a couple of times and it worked perfectly.
This should be interesting.

Ryan Reynolds did a great job breakin the 4th wall in Van Wilder, so this is going to be a cake walk for him in Deadpool. Should be fun IF he gets his way, but it’s still FOX folks.:(
They’ll probably have him record all of the dialogue for the “breaking the 4th wall” then cut it all in the final theatrical cut, lol. We’ll have to buy the DVD to get the “commentary mode” lol.

I hope this turns out something like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang where he knows he’s in a movie and will point out all the stupid plot holes/plot twists/stupid cliches, etc.
Josh R I loved Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. That movie is one of my all time faves. I thought it was just brilliant. RDJ and Val Kilmore are brilliant together. I love when RDJ is narrating then talks crap about his narrating skills constantly rewinding and fast forwarding in the story or when he goes off about something and was like “Oh crap I forgot to tell you about the robot.. I hate when people do that” lol. Great movie.
I use a quote from that film all the time the one where Val asks RDJ if he knew what he would find if it looked up idiot in the dictionary and RDJ goes ” A picture of me” Val says “No the definition for the word idiot which you F***ing are. “
I apologize for the above mentioned geek out moment. Not enough of my friends have Seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang so I don’t get to talk about it enough.

Reynolds and DeadPool are the same person, I swear. When that character was created in the comics, it was meant for that man! For the little time he was in Wolverine, he was the best side character! He can obviously kick butt in Marvel franchises. Remember Blade 3? He was better than Wesley Snipes and Blade is my second favorite marvel character.
