Ryan Reynolds & Bradley Cooper To Star In Buddy Cop Movie

Ryan Reynolds and Bradley Cooper may be a couple of the busiest actors in Hollywood right now but that hasn’t stopped them from shopping for new projects.

Now, it sounds as if the A-list actors are about to team up for a new buddy cop movie.

Risky Business reports that Reynolds and Cooper are in the process of signing onto an original untitled action-comedy about, “two friends, who are also San Francisco cops, whose fathers were once partners on the police force. The older generation is forced out of retirement to help their sons crack a case, with typically antagonistic results.”

Before non-action fans write-off the movie, you should know the script was written by Sheldon Turner – who just won an Oscar for co-writing the Up in the Air script. Apparently, he fetched a seven-figure payday for his work on the upcoming buddy cop film.

The untitled project will be produced by Neal Moritz (The Bounty Hunter), Andrew Panay (Wedding Crashers), J.C. Spink, Chris Bender (A History of Violence) and Jonathan Komack Martin (Reynold’s Dark Trick Films partner). It isn’t set up at a major studio yet but could land at Sony – since Moritz’ Original Film company (Green Hornet) is located over there.

The film is said to have an “updated Lethal Weapon flavor that plays into edgier R-rated territory.” However, with two megastars like Reynolds and Cooper involved, it’s possible the film will get toned down for a PG-13 rating – in order to snag a wider audience (specifically the girls who go crazy for the actors).

The project was set up five years ago by Turner and Panay – at that time it was titled Blowback (I guess they’ve dropped that title). The film was originally set to star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

I’m a little surprised that both Reynolds and Cooper are on-board. Not that they make a bad duo, but neither of them are struggling for work (Reynolds has seven films in development, Cooper has six), and an action-comedy (one that doesn’t even have a title) seems like an odd choice.

Perhaps they were drawn to the project by Turner’s name, the chance to work together, or maybe there’s something special about the script that has yet to be revealed.

Whatever the reason, I’m pretty sure the film will do well at the box office. Much like another recent buddy cop movie, The Other Guys (which starred Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg), the two names attached to the untitled film are probably enough to get butts in the seats – no matter what the story.

  1. I wonder who would be the more comedic one of the 2 of them, I can already imagine the banter between them…

  2. Dear sweet god not another buddy cop film, im tired of those as much as I am of 3D movies.

    • Then don’t watch it. Simple as that.

  3. don’t think this would work as a buddy cop movie. neither can fit the profile for the “sidekick funny guy” motif.

  4. yeah i doubt this’ll be R..and WTH isnt reynolds concentrating on getting the Deadpool movie made?? if this come out before any GL, im seriously gonna question his “love” for the character.

    • He’s reportedly still comitted to the role, but what do you expect? The film is going no where (although it’s HOPED (not saying much) that it’ll get going next year), and he’s not getting any younger. He can’t wait around for Fox to do something forever.

It’s smart to do other projects while the studio is still negotiation with Rodriguez to direct. I do agree that he’s getting attached on too many roles though.

      • i actually expect him to get the ball rolling on it. its been talked about for too damn long. i highly doubt he’s commited to do it anymore, or if he really was

        • They can do nothing w/o a director, and the studio is still negotiationg with Rodriguez for the job. Reynolds is just doing the smart thing and doing other projects while Fox and Rodriguez work out a deal.

          • i know all about that, its nothing new man

  5. I personally like the sound of this. I loved the Lethal Weapon series and movies like this can make for a rather entertaining 2 hours-especially when guys like this are involved.

  6. cooper isnt funny…

  7. Is this the Rorschach and Deadpool movie?? If it is then by all means I’m on board!! LOL!! Hate me for this or not… I’d really love it if it were Rorschach and Deadpool. Is it just me, or would Cooper seem cool if he did a role as dark as Rorschach?

  8. A buddy cop movie? How exciting! And original too! Regardless of the star power being thrown into it, this sounds as thrilling as drying paint.

  9. Does anyone else see Hal Jordan and Guy Gardener up there?

  10. I love Reynolds, but I can’t stand Cooper and don’t get his appeal.

  11. Ryan Reynolds is Canadian, everyone loves him! :)

  12. They are both two of the most popular and likeable movie stars right now. I find it hard to believe they can get them together on a project. And should the movie be made, I doubt that one of them would be the sidekick type. They might have the same screen time and I think it’s best that they focus on the banter between the two :D

  13. Who on earth finds Bradly Cooper likable? And what’s wrong with that person?

I liked the hangover but he was the worst part of the film. He is a no talent pretty boy. I may not be the biggest Brad Pitt fan but at least he can act. Cooper is not only a bad actor but he has a complete douche vibe guy comes off like a tool in every thing he does.

Likeable? We must of really lowered the standards for that word.

    • wow daniel lol.. i miss your rants! and i agree with you about Cooper.

  14. I wonder who will play the fathers?
